The thing is, I really like that song. I will drop everything when the Coldplay/iPod commercial comes on tv, cursing that I don't have HD. That song makes me want to run a few extra miles out on the hike & bike trail, which really bodes well for building up my cute dudes with even cuter dogs quotient.

I just read an article that talked about Viva la Vida, stating that if Arcade Fire had made it, people would be more willing to admit that it's a good song. This might be kind of true. I have a lot of friends who can't pull themselves out of Animal Collective long enough to give an f, but I'm here to say that i don't mind being a loser. Chris Martin can do whatever he wants, play an african drum/keyboard solo with 2 tons of rose petals falling on him with multiple laser beam high wattage systems while playing a slide show of dramatic black and white pictures. It's just nice to hear a pop song that actually makes me feel good. Most of them just make me feel like I need a shower.

p.s. This is all stated without any knowledge as to whether or not the rest of the album sucks nuts.

Do you have A Rush Of Blood? In My Place is faultless pop perfection IMO:

God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

You'll be happy to know that it doesn't.

Strawberry Swing is an amazing song.

I bought this single off iTunes because I couldn't get it out of my head after seeing the commercial. I don't like "Violet Hill" at all.

My favorite thing about Coldplay...they did an interview in either Spin or Rolling Stone saying you won't see them charing $100 for a ticket to a concert this summer...well, that's right...at Verizon Center in D.C. tickets were like $89 for the better seats...before all the bogus extra charges..... ::)

Coldplay is good  :)

I saw Coldplay the first time they played NYC. At Radio City no less. My friend and I were probably the only ones standing up and rocking out in the orchestra.  Grandaddy opened, it was a good night. Yes, good band.  No shame :)

Extra bonus for the new record. Brian Eno is in the house!

Isn't it disgusting how it's now somehow "cool" to diss Coldplay???

Like... Who the F cares???  These are the same people that are going to be holding up their cell phones at the live shows and TOTALLY raving about the new record in 3 months...

The new record is fantastic.

The last 2 songs are mind-blowing.  Strawberry Swing is gorgeous and has this amazing percussion in it.  Death and All His Friends (the last track) is literally like 3 different songs in 1.  I would HIGHLY ENCOURAGE everyone to listen to this song - listen real closely from 2:18 through 3:25 - how unbelievable was THAT??????????????  OMG - That piece of music is simply gorgeous and life-affirming... People are going to lose their minds when they hear that live.  Talk about a fist-pump.

Anyway... It's a great record... and you'll find once you get into the record more and more that although the theme of a lot of Martin's lyrics revolve around dying/death - The album is truly a Celebration of Life and LIVING!!!!!!!!!!!  Life in general punches us all in the gut - it's how we deal with it that makes us who we are.

For me - this record really hits home as i've lost someone very close to me recently.  All i can say is that this recording is making that transition a bit easier for me.

Great Record Coldplay...

i thought rush of blood topped it...it's definitely a close second. they have perfected songwriting by rush of blood

I agree. Rush Of Blood is many times better than Parachutes IMO.

my question is, where can i acquire a giant, church-like Liberty Bell to bang on, just like the guy in Viva La Vida

hey remember that time we were eating and we heard that slight drum sound and we both referenced this song. that was tight.

I really like this song too!!  Has anyone heard the rest of the album?  I actually own every Coldplay record and not ashamed of it...
If you don't know for yourself, how could you ever know for me....

I can't really understand the widely spread shame in liking Coldplay  or why people think it's cool to hate it.
Perssonally I do like Vivala vida, actually I think the whole album is quite good, but I don't think of it as an really outstanding piece of music. Their old records are quite good too, though I never liked
X & Y (€: there are some quite good songs on X & Y as I just realized when looking at the tracklist, but I thought those were on other records)

Perhaps the fact that Coldplay began as a boy band named "Pectoralz" has something to do with their well-deserved suckage.

Their first two albums were perfection.  Since then, their stuff is WAY overproduced and I think the songs are weak. I'll still listen to everything they put out because Chris Martin has the potential to write awesome songs. (for example, clocks is a great song, just too much there--leave the melody be--that's what they're good at) just my opinion

Cold Play does not do anything for me, I don't know why cuz I've tried to listen.

My wife and daughter went to see them at Izod and my wife said it was one of the best shows she has ever seen, and we've been to many many concerts, going back to 1978.

So go figure, to each his own!

Definitely. I don't think they'll ever put out anything better than that album.

I still like them, though!  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
