it's 50 years today that buddy holly died.

Charles Hardin Holley, known professionally as Buddy Holly (September 7, 1936 [ch8211] February 3, 1959)

Although his success lasted only a year and a half before his death in an airplane crash, Holly is described by critic Bruce Eder as "the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll.

Don't forget that Ritchie Valens and J.P Richardson (the Big Bopper) were also on board the aircraft, as well as the pilot at 21 years of age... Terrible tragedy.

Jessica Lea Mayfield does a really nice version of "Words of Love" on that Sweetheart 2009 compilation.

My Dad's band The Raiders supported Buddy Holly. True story.

One of my heroes Waylon Jennings was Buddy Holly's bass player at the time & gave his seat to The Big Bopper who had a fever & didn't like squeezing into the bus seats.

This always reminds me of Stevie Ray Vaughan's plane crash...

Strange how things work out, here's what we got left with:

Yeah, I heard that Jennings said something like, "I hope you all crash and burn" as they boarded the plane.  He was joking, of course, but the guilt of saying that stuck with him a long time.

Nothing on tape I'm afraid. They cut a few singles but my Dad doesn't have them anymore. They were quite big locally (in Reading! haha) & toured Europe a couple of times. All he has now though is some old newspaper cuttings & photos etc that he gave me a few years ago.

Ouch! You're not going to forget having said something like that in a hurry after what happened...
