What an amazing and inspirational person.

i love all of eno's stuff (actually i'd say i much prefer the "rock" albums he did), but MUSIC FOR AIRPORTS is by far my least favourite.  i wouldn't say i dislike it, but i like all his other material much better.  it will, however, always hold a special place in my heart because it's what my wife and i listened while she was in labor with our son.

I hold Ambient music for Airports in high regard for a couple of reasons. First is that I use Track 1 when leading groups in meditation or guided imagery. Second, Track 4 made me think (when I firt heard it 5 or 6 years ago) of hurtling through space at a million miles an hour, just me, probably dead, and to recently hear Eno explain that he made these songs in reference and acknowledgment of the possibility of dying and being suspended in space means he reached that place in me that he was hoping to.

Funnily enough a good friend lent me a big pile of Eno CDs just a couple of days ago:
Drawn From Life, Music For Films III, Apollo Atmosphere & Soundtracks, My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts, Another Green World, Music For Airports & On Land.
With which should i start? Any of those i should avoid?
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

I'd go with the last 3 in that order. On Land is sort of scary  :o

I shall give them a spin, thanks  :)

(not) surprisingly, On Land is my favourite of the ambient albums.

my overall favourite is TAKING TIGER MOUNTAIN (BY STRATEGY)

good Lord! There are times in my life when there is nothing I need to hear more.

in other eno likings, the robert fripp solo on 'Baby's on Fire' is one of my favourite things ever.  maybe even fripp's best solo ever.

been listening to ON LAND a lot lately (per your suggestion) and it's slowly drawing me into the place where it's all I want to hear; he hits something something really deep and unconscious.

thanks

Alright folks, I've decided it's time for me to discover Mr. Eno.  What's a good ambient, and non-ambient album to start with?

good man, red!  you'll never be the same.  non-ambient wise, you can't go wrong with any of them.  the four albums (HERE COME THE WARM JETS, TAKING TIGER MOUNTAIN (BY STRATEGY), ANOTHER GREEN WORLD, BEFORE AND AFTER SCIENCE) are probably 4 of the most rock solid albums ever released by any artist.  period.  like i said before, my personal favourite is TAKING TIGER MOUNTAIN.  his ambient stuff is often more acclaimed than the other, so take your pick.  he's seriously in a top tier league in history with mozart, beethoven, etc.  you can't go wrong with any of his stuff.

Ambient - Apollo Atmospheres and Soundtracks

Rock - Here Come The Warm Jets and the next 4 after that.

Here Come the Warm Jets

and

The Plateaux of Mirror (with Harold Budd)

even though Rats is right, you can't go wrong with any.

QuoteOn Land is sort of scary  :o
I'm with Tracy on this one, this album can be positively unnerving at the right/wrong time...
It's excellent headphones music but don't buy this & except to have it chill you out as it plays quietly in the background.
I had to turn it off last night as it wasn't conducive to the mood I was trying to set  :-/ :-[ :'(

I can't listen to it in the dark unless I have a flashlight next to me...

Ambient 2: The Plateaux of Mirror with currently my fav of all the Brian Eno CDs that I bought recently. Can anyone recommend some Harold Budd? Tracy?
I only have this & his OST for Mysterious Skin. I love them both & need some more.
