Spend an hour with a beer or a glass of wine, spin Southeastern on vinyl and really just listen.

Gets better each time.

I've listened to this just about every day for the last month.  I'm still not tired of it.  I'd say Super 8 is my least favorite, but I don't dislike it enough to skip it.  I kind of like the change of pace.
I've got a cousin who just went to rehab a month ago.  He'll be in for a few months.  Anyway, I sent him this album due to the themes of redemption and reconciliation throughout the album.
Can't get enough of it and looking forward to seeing him in Mobile, AL next month.

i think everyone's kinda 'blah' about Super 8 but Headhunter and i were saying that when you see it live, you'll really dig it. it doesn't fit in with the rest of the songs but i think he had to have a bit of at least one rocker on there.
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

I also feel like seeing Super 8 live (at Bonnaroo) really changed my opinion of it.  I originally felt like it didn't quite fit and took me out of the album to a degree, but now I feel like it fits just fine, and I never skip it, or anything else on this record.
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

this is really my only complaint with it, more because of the theme of the song though than it being a rocker. I dont have a problem with the actual song itself.

Finally arrived down here. Definition of irony? The album is fucking brilliant but the vinyl pressing sounds absolutely atrocious. The vocals have a fuzzy distorted sound that is so overwhelming it just sounds terrible. Will swap for another copy and hope it sounds better. The song writing is top shelf though...
At my house, we call them uh-ohs.

Shug

Is he touring with a horn section right now?  I saw a youtube vid from 2012 with a horn section.  I love some horns and that might put me over the edge to go see him.

No horns when I saw him last month, Shug. Go anyway!

LBSUNFLWR

none when I saw him either. But those youtube vids with the horns might be from that Live From Alabama release. It's fuckinawesome if you don't have it already!

just saw youtube videos last night from that show...thinking maybe you saw the same ones.

Congratulations to Jason Isbell for winning Album of the Year, Artist of the Year and Song of the Year last night at The Americana Music Awards. Well deserved!

Just ordered tickets for my first Jason Isbell show with Damien Jurado in support. Never got to  see him with DBT either. I'm equally as excited for Damien Jurado, his album is still my pick for best of the year. I'm assuming it will be Damien performing solo without a band though because that's usually how it works in a theater setting.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

LBSUNFLWR

Isbell playing in Louisville on New Years Eve! pretty excited :)

just 2 years ago Isbell opened for Ryan Adams at The Palace. Now headlining at The Palace on NYE! what a difference a fantastic album makes!

Mingus Rude

I have 2 extra tickets for the November 6 show at DPAC in Durham if anyone is interested .
Sturgill Simpson opens .
They are in Section 1 , Row B (4 rows back ) in the middle

Apparently "The Voice" tried to recruit Jason Isbell as a contestant. He talked about it on his twitter account. Too funny...

From Jambase: "Singer-songwriter Jason Isbell has accomplished so much in his career both as a solo artist and as a member of Drive-By Truckers including his recent near sweep at this year's Americana Music Awards. Apparently those details escaped the attention of a producer for the NBC reality show The Voice, who reached out to Isbell in an attempt to have him audition for the show."
