it's one of the things i most appreciate about jj.

his continual banter during shows. i don't know where he comes up with the stuff, but it really makes the shows for me.

from things like "happpy new year, go make a lotta love".

to something like "let it fucking rain. it feels so good. it's washing our souls" at bonnaroo.

keep speaking to me jim, i'm listening.  :o
Is there a doctor in the house tonight?

Love Dogg

Yeah, I wish one of these fine audiophiles on here would make a compilation of Jim's banters.  Odd request, I know but...
"Sometimes it runs its course in a day, babe.  Sometimes it goes from night after night."

I wonder how many Obama shout outs he made at shows this year?

Depends on how many times he played Look At You.

You know i have everything recorded (that has been made public) archived as well as converted to mp3s for ease of use... 28 gigs or so of mp3s. That'll hook you up for your quest of banter... most of it is labeled as banter as tapers split it out. Maybe I'll give it a go and see what happens.

I think it should only be made available via a cassette we trade around though... i gotta find a tape deck!

Don't forget the ones from the Bunbury theater show.  I thought it was pretty funny.

I'm down with that idea.  Check pawn shops and quality thrift stores.  Sometimes you'll get lucky with Goodwill, but unlikely.

Do it!  Do it!

JJ's banter is pretty darned entertaining.

One thing though -  I've been to about 10 MMJ shows and I never noticed it until (shout out to) my husband loaded about 50 live shows into my ipod - but Jim pretty enthusiastically drops the F bomb in (so far) every show I've listened to so far.

Not that I particularly care except that now I keep my office door closed while rocking out to MMJ at work.   That's propbably for the best anyway.   ;)

I've never heard him swear. But I've only been to two full shows and listened to less than fifteen on Archive.

OOO yes.. Jim like his F bombs... Always says them in a comical way tho.. In Cleveland he said " This is a hometown show for us... one fifth of the band is from MUFUCKING Cleveland.." Good memories.. I've been asking for a while now for a collection of his banters.. As I don't have the time and patience that ya'll mighty fine people do...

That is one of my favorites.  Then he just picks up where he left off, minus shoes.

i love the banter mix idea. robert pollard of guided by voices (who is responsible for some of the finest banter i've ever witnessed) has a collection called "relaxation of the asshole." my favorite jim banter is from a show he and carl did in san francisco. jim talks about a building/structure he saw while walking around the city which he thinks was built for the worlds fair. he goes on to say he'd like to bring the worlds fair back, but nobody cares anymore b/c everyone's busy watching tv...which was introduced at the world's fair, so i guess the world's fair people shot themselves in the foot

That is perfect!

One of my favs was him clipping his fingernails into the river.

Wardog

I loved in Dallas, in 2006, he talked and said, "we took a trip to the...uh..magic...Millenium bubble, or whatever the fuck that thing is..we were up inside...it's a huge fucking ball that sits on your city...I want to tell you something...to make the Reeunion Tower better...this is real serious...I want to get serious with you here for a second. I think that you should put a Cafe' Brazil on top, cause the restraunt there fucking sucks." Then later in the show he goes back to it and  how he had a fantasy while he was out in town...and then he said, "Well you all are art of my rock n' roll fantasy" and everyone cheered.  Then he said, " Had this fantasy that...at the Millenium Ball, or whatever the fuck it's called...universal...(someone shouts out) Reunion tower...there on top of your Reunion Tower would make a good place to record an action-adventure sequence for Die hard 4 or something...where they're climbing all over the outside of it...the ball...and a helicopter comes...picks someone off the top..." Then he goes into "Tonight I want to Cellebrate with You"...after that he talks about another building being like a green tron building.

It cracked me up how random it was.
