2011 keeps getting better

Here's how that article reads:

blahblahblahneonindiancollabblahblahblah oooh a box set blah blah blah ZAIREEKA FOR THE PHONE!

Now, if you're like me, you own Zaireeka on CD, yet you don't own more than one CD player. And neither do any of your friends, at least not in a portable format.

So now, we can just plug our phones into portable speakers, most of which we already have, and then listen around the campfire or some awesome variation.

SWEET

the only "problem" is that you have to have 4 cell phones (not hard to find) and four portable speakers!

but, in 2011 F'Lips are giving us 12 new songs, more songs with neon indian, and the cell phone version of zaireeka? 2011 is going to be so good for music.

Well...here's how I"m looking at it:

Odds of having 4 friends with portable CD players: 1:100000000000000000000

I just looked at the Flaming Lips forum for the first time and they have a pretty solid recording of the NYE 10/11 show.

I've never been interested in getting their bootlegs since the majority of what they do is fairly straight forward. The magic is actually being at the show. That's not to say they suck live or anything.

If you're not a twitterer, Wayne's twitter feed is worth creating a ghost account just to follow. He also posts a lot of boobs.

Also the new song w/ Neon Indian is apparently called "Is David Bowie Dying????"

Honestly, I was never a big fan of theirs til I saw them close out Forecastle festival last summer. It was one of my favorite live shows ever, with the exception of a few special Jacket shows. I'm really hoping to catch them this summer now that I listen to them and whatnot.

Well, if I don't go to Hangout I plan on catchin 'em in Chicago in July. They just added a few more U.S. dates as well as a Spain date.

Anyone have any info on the songs per month going on cause if I remember correctly January is over and no song. ???

All I know is Wayne is twittering about driving around the country and recording with Neon Indian and making songs about David Bowie and acid

I must be missing out on all kinds of info. I'm about to sign up for twitter.

My fair warning - it's both every stupid thing people say it is, and everything it isn't. Depends how you use it. I follow beers, scientists, and musicians mainly.

I do think Wayne is worth joining just to follow by himself.

If you use RSS feeds, twitter isn't really that much different.

This excites me.  I've been a casual fan of their music for almost two decades now but have never seen them live before and have been dying to.  Here's to hoping that the Hangout set is somewhat representative of their typical shows.

Two things:

1) Everything I've ever read is that their festival performances are the Flaming Lips at their best
2) When I saw them last spring, it might as well have been a festival. Confetti and lasers and balloons were everywhere

I left that show feeling like a better person, revitalized, and 1.4 years younger.

Get close, it'll be worth it. I almost stood in the back to be nearer to the alcohol, but there's always a ton of action on stage.
