I'm pretty sure I won't be going to this though

wha?  This is practically in your backyard.

Ugh...I know. It's a few things. Doing the full festival idn't gunna happen, with a newborn and a 2-year old at home. I'm not gunna wook my kidz out and take 'em quite this young. ;D Aside from that, the timing is just bad this year for that weekend.

High Sierra is SO MUCH DAMN FUN TOO, and that is a REALLY STRONG LINEUP! I'm pretty bummed, and just hope that there are some other shows that they schedule in the area.

I hear you Bill.  I will say, that high sierra is hands down the most kid friendly festival you could imagine.  We brought all 3 of ours last year, and will be doing so again this year, although ours are 12, 10, and 9.  But, there will be plenty of kids of all ages, all the way down to babies. (obviously a new freshy newborn is a different story)  They have a huge kid zone where they do fun stuff with kids, kid stages, kid parades, and on and on.  There is also family camp, where we will be setting up shop, and it gets (relatively) quiet by 10 pm.  Kids and high sierra go hand in hand.  It ain't no bonnaroo.

Hmmmm, artist additions and late night schedule are up.

Dr. Dog & TBA on July 1...what are the chances that the TBA is MMJ?

walterfredo

^as much as I would like to keep the dream alive, I say slim to none. Looks like Dr Dog is the headliner for that late night show, the TBA will be an opener. Can't wait for another glorious 4th of July weekend in Quincy!

Though we haven't actually purchased our tix yet, we are planning on coming down for this - with our NEWBORN (and possibly 9 year old step daughter).  Okay, I guess by then she'll be almost 8 months old, so not so newborn, but whatevs.

Looking forward to it!
My jacket's gonna be cut slim and checked

A girl can dream... ;D

I've also got another fantasy going that Jim or somebody will be at Preservation Hall again this year.  They've got one more artist to announce for the Midnight Preserves series...

Looking very forward to High Sierra!!

Great news. We'll definitely be in family camp again this year with a group of friends with kids of all ages. If your step daughter needs kiddos to play with, my 12 y/o daughter, 10 y/o son and 9 y/o step son are always willing to make new friends. High Sierra is an adult and kid playground!

Any idea what day MMJ is playing?  The same My Space page cited for pinpointing their day at Lollapalooza has MMJ playing on Thursday, day one of this fest, which seems odd.

The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

walterfredo

No idea, but I really hope it's not Thursday, the festival would be very anticlimactic after that. I was hoping Saturday.

after looking at this page, I don't think that's right, it also says 4 p.m.  No chance they get a 4 pm slot, they'll be closing on the grandstand whatever night they do play.  I think they just plugged in the first day of the fest because they're not sure yet what day they're playing.

edit:  after poking around on the high sierra message board, people seem pretty confident MMJ is playing Saturday night, not sure how they came up with it, but that's what I'm reading.

walterfredo

looks like Friday night 9-11.

walterfredo

gotta love the Roll Call perks!

 >:( ...naturally, I have a meeting from 10:30 -noon CST today...guess I'll have to excuse myself for a few moments.  :)

I have to say that anyone who is a MMJ fan and can make it to this festival (especially if you can get the Roll Call VIP access), is a fool not to. This will be my 10th year at High Sierra and with MMJ being one of my favorite bands of all time, it's going to be an incredible year there. I've seen MMJ about 10 times now, with 3 shows coming up this summer, but I have to say High Sierra will be the most pleasant, relaxed atmosphere to see them. You're guaranteed to have an up close, non-claustrophobic experience in a beautiful, mountain setting. You can bring your own drinks to the stage (as long as it's not in a glass bottle), you can camp within a few hundred yards of the stage, and, aside from the gas in getting there, it's one of the most affordable festivals out there.

If you're already going and are on the roll call, I think it's definitely worth the extra cash. Not only do you get cheap(er) Lagunitas beers all night, right next to the stage (bout $3 each), but you have nicer porta-potties right there, even more space, and are pretty much guaranteed a spot right in front of Jim's amp. If I didn't already work backstage, I would buy the pass in a heartbeat.

Long trip, nice!

I would totally be on board for this if I could possibly make it. If MMJ does this again next year, I am going to plan the road trip.
