Northern Neighbour

The wife and I are going to Montreal on Sunday to see a couple of friends, who are in town for the U2 shows.  We'll have to check out La Banquise for poutine.  I was planning on taking them to Schwartz's for smoked meat, so I assume La Banquise is nearby.

Great stuff!  La Banquise is on Rue Rachel near Parc La Fontaine, it's a little out of the way but worth it if you have the time!

johnnYYac

Thanks for the info!  I figure Schwartz's and La Banquise will take care of my arrival and departure meals.  Schwartz's is a short walk from hotel/Metropolis; La Banquise a longer walk or short drive.

Getting psyched!

Oh hell yeah, you gotta go to Schwartz's, which was one of my required destinations when I went. Viande fumee! Get the fat, just because.

I make no promises, but I won't have a way to post the forum until I get back to NH on Thursday, so I'm dusting off the ole Twitter account.  Some may recall a few lame tweets from Birmingham, Nashville, and Atlanta last April.

Setlist suprises, mindless drivel, perhaps nothing (as I do hope to be sometimes too busy having fun to pull out the cell).

(can you believe someone else already had "johnnyyac" when I set up the account last year?  wtf!)

We didn't go to Schwartz's since our friends had a big breakfast, but we did go to La Banquise.  It's a great place.  Our friends shared the Poutine Matty (bacon, onions, peppers, and mushrooms) while we had the Taquise (guacamole, sour cream, and tomatoes).  The poutine was very good.

About 36 hours until showtime!

Thanks, Jeff!  How was Steve Forbert?  Wish I could've been there.

Hope you feel better.  I went to Mountain Jam a bit under the weather.  MMJ cured me.

It's a been a long time since I've visited these forums, so long that I couldn't recover my password!

Looking forward to tonight, my first MMJ show since Symphony Hall in Boston 5 years ago. Metropolis is a killer venue.

MY THOUGHTS: This is only the second time I've had the pleasure of seeing this band.  I arrived in halfway through Jake and the Leprechauns who were a solid showing from Sherbrooke, QC.  Lots of fellow countrymen and I would think new fans showing love at the end of their robust set.  Short Break, smoke, more catchy but keep-me-guessing music in house.
Dim Lights.  Without need for introduction these five guys instantly became our hosts for the evening, one by one unfurling their own blend of the good vibrations that we love-- they quickly put the crowd into a frenzy.
Personal highlights for me included hearing Evil Urges again (what a solid tune) ; Honest Man really connected and got EVERYBODY moving, my gosh what a serious anthem of the people; Dondante was as long and strong as I have heard it (Big Jim spot and big Carl Ending) and I Will Sing You Songs was a smooth shot I suppose rarely seen today.  Legit MMJ Hitlist in 2011.  I jumped and stomped and clapped and hollered and shrieked Yip Yip Yip a lot.  Metropolis is a really solid venue... it is with mixed emotions that I acknowledge that Metropolis was maybe a little over half full-- floor only-- great because we were only all among our people, but its too bad so few and far between are on board up here!  Nonetheless  I definitely appreciated the chance to LOVE IT in an intimate setting.
Great show guys, thanks again and godspeed on the Euro trip!

I cannot stress enough that despite the fact that my ears loved hearing this music sound as beautiful, fueling and moving as ever, it was more the general vibe I felt among the event tonight that keeps me coming back.  At one point early in the night, donèt remember where exactly, perhaps at the end of Anytime or so when things started getting really warm: Jim had his back to the audience sorta standing in front of Bo, and he made this motion like a cat cracking his spine and shoulder span just getting ready to loosen up and unleash.

I will not forget this image.  I donèt know if it was deliberate on Jimès part, but for overall effect, that was a money shot.  Figuratively it set up the whole night (for me at least).  Literally, I feel like I cracked 6 or 7 vertebrae just watching the guy afterwards.

I donèt know what else to say other than the fact that MMJ really knows how to bring it across all lands, venues and crowds.  High fives to all I bumped around with in there.

Ièm not sure why me keyboard is trying to be french right now this has never happened before

PS Gideon soaring outro piece mmmm
