Holy shit, what a pleasant surprise. This could be pretty fuckin' cool!

In a totally related note, the clock at my work desk appears to have stopped moving.

Call the venue: Guvernment or Kool Haus. They always list set times.

I'm kind of confused. I emailed the guvernment. this was their response:

DOORS 7PM
MY MORNING JACKET 8pm
They will play an extended set of approx 3 hours.

I'm pretty sure that's wrong, right? There is an opener isn't there?

wow. best news ever!!!!!!!!! I can't wait for tonight!

Also, this extended set information was confirmed by a friend of mine who's deeply connected in the t.o. music scene. i can't wait.

Did a little research and it seems these extended, opener-less shows are few and far between. The show a week or so ago in Santa Barbara had no opener, but the band was limited to a 10PM venue curfew. The Unstaged show at the Palace also had no opener and that was quite the barn burner. I don't want to get my hopes up, but I'm really optimistic that this show is gonna be something special.

Jaimoe

The only drawback is the spotty venue.

TSarge

A round of beers that can be claimed at the Philly show on 8/23 to whomever comes back with the best recording/video!

Spotty schmotty. Venues are overrated. T5 was a bad-sounding dive nestled in between car dealerships and those shows were unbelievable. If tonight's show is even 25% as enjoyable as those, we're all in for the concert-going event of the year.

The venue is spotty at best, but I've seen good shows there.

I hope you are right, but the last MMJ show at Kool Haus was merely good. The EU-heavy setlist deflated some of the itensity, which didn't help. However, they put on a show earlier that year at a converted Toronto church with a similar setlist that was fucking stellar.

Looks like the buzz train for this show is picking up some serious steam. Eric Mayers triple-mega confirmed it's going to be an extended three-hour set, and the Twitter world seems in agreement that despite U2 being in town, MMJ is going to be the "real show" of the night.

Man, I gotta leave this office and get down there already.

Ruckus

Not to jinx this but it really seems like this could be the 1st real monster of the tour with the break before and all.  3 hours?! :o Hope it's killer for all yaz north of the border! 8)

It was great show, but it was fucking hot as hell in the ironically named Kool Haus.

I wandered around the hall and into the usually sure-fire good acoustic back corners, but the sound wasn't very consistent. However, in the middle and close to the stage the sound was excellent. The set had nice flow and the new tunes fit in nicely. The place was packed and the crowd was pretty raucous throughout, except the back section. Jim's voice was pretty shredded on some of the songs, but his guitar was in prime form as were his stage antics. All and all a stellar night.

I was up at the front in the center and the sound was pretty good. I thought at time that Carl's guitar could have been louder, or at least equal to the level of Jim's guitar, but I wasn't sure if it was just my position at the gig or not...also, from the front, couldn't hear any shred in Jim's voice, but I'm sure that's more evident further back with some more clarity to the sound.

Show was great. I have seen them about 6, or 7 times now and I think this was one of the best. The setlist was great. If they had've started at 8 and played all of the songs printed on the setlist? Wow...

GO4IT

We were 1 back from the rail right in front of Jim and the stage was very close to the rail so it was awesome being that close and the crowd up there was great. Jim's voice sounded fine.
I'm not sure what's up with that music sampler that Jim wears around his neck for a few songs. Seems like a distraction and at times appeared to be doing things he didn't intend and was trying to get under control.
Overall another fantastic show, my tenth.
Onto Ottawa!

Just heading out the door for the show in Montreal tonight, but I had to chime in after witnessing the spectacle that was MMJ at the Kool Haus last night. One of the best shows I've ever seen them play.

Hearing the opening notes to "The Dark" sent me into such a fit, it was a moment I'll never forget. I don't think I've ever been so excited at a show. PWW was nuts. The whole show was insane. Can't wait for tonight.
