Yeah, that guy!

I know where he lives

Tell him to send me a sticker, or we'll leave a burning bag of poop on his doorstep

Hey Dylan,

I know I've emailed you before, but My Morning Jacket fans continue to wonder if there will ever be a repressing of the 4-LP live Okonokos, put out by Badman Records in 2006 (BRC-940).

Any insight would be appreciated.

Dylan, from Badman Records, responds...

Hey John,

We've reprinted it a few times, though our license has now ended and ATO has the rights returned to them now.  I'm so happy that such a large amount of MMJ fans found this to be a bad ass release.

Cheers,

No mention of your sticker, so fire up the poo bag!

I can start working on it tomorrow morning

Thanks for looking into it, straight to the source, good work.

So does anyone know where I could buy one?  Of course I've seen it on ebay and a few other sites.

The reason I got my turntable was to get the good stuff after all.

What's a good price for an unopened okonokos?
These days, start at $100.  I'm SO lucky I scored my copy for under $40 a couple of years ago.  Nowadays, USED copies will cost you a cnote.
UPDATE!

2 unopened copies of Okonokos 4xLP on eBay. One sold for $200.  The other is at $240 with 11 hours left.  2 recent used copies sold for well above $100.

Yeah I was in on that bidding.  I went for the used version in the end.  It shipped from a fella in Holland.  He seemed nice we emailed about it a bit.  I'm hoping it arrives soon and in good shape.

Next up for me is probably Circuital.  Regular or box set green edition?

The new copy of Okonokos finally went for $250!  That's the highest I've seen.

Don't buy the box set from MMJ.com.  They're available for $76.44 and free shipping here:

Some would say the green vinyl in the box set is potentially lower quality sound than the "regular" black vinyl.  I haven't had a chance to make the comparison.

Was there a reason we recieved multiple sets of the green records of the Boxed vinyl?  I remember someone mentioning a problem, but then another set arrived in a seperate package later on.  then when I spun my origional set they seemed normal.

Yeah, a bunch were warped, so we all got a second set of green vinyl. My original set was fine, so I've got a back up, which took the sting outta paying so much... for a bookmark that never sprouted!

I received Okonokos yesterday!  Everything came as promised from the Dutchman.  The condition is just like new.  He said he only played it once or twice and I believe him.  Glad I went used and saved the $100+.  Listened to disc 1 last night, and wow, everyone was right, this is so good on vinyl.  A new live record set is definitely long overdue.  One nitpicky question, he sent the discs in a plastic record bag inside the box.  Putting everything back in the bag doesn't fit well.  I'm thinking he did that for shipping, is that the case?

Also, ordered the green box set from the link provided, thanks for posting that, and it should be coming any day.

Spence...did the records come in sleeves or just the bags? For instance, this should be the first sleeve for the first record...

Just hoping the guy put these in the box too bc to me these pics are awesome...

That one (record 2's sleeve) is definitely my favorite...but I also really like the info on this one...all of our boys apparently died at age 27 like some more Gods of Rock before them...

Yes, they all came in the picture sleeves and were then in a clear bag.  I'm pretty sure it was just for packing to keep them from rattling around during shipping.  I like the little photo on the last sleeve, so random...

Hey Everyone,

Finally decided to treat myself this birthday and purchase myself a new sound system. It was essential to include a turntable so I can start playing vinyl. I am very new to the vinyl game, especially when it comes to how rare a specific album is. I am starting to build up my MMJ vinyl collection and bought my favorite album, At Dawn, off of Ebay today to $50.99 (that includes shipping). Compared to their other albums that cost upwards of $30, it seemed a little pricey. But at the same time, I have not seen At Dawn in any records stores and it seems there are very few to by online. Be honest, did I overpay?

P.S.
Sorry if the person I bought this album from is an active participant in this thread.

I'd say it all depends, honestly. I could walk to the record store at the end of my block and buy you AD for 25$ and ship it to you for 5$. It'd be whatever the newest repress is. If its colored vinyl, it'd be from the first (or second?) pressing, and a lot harder to find, and thus more valuable. I almost payed 100$ for AD and TTF colored vinyls from someone online, but unfortunately I had a sudden car problem and couldn't swing it.

Any of the 6 studio albums should be more or less easily found for ~30$ or less. I had a hard time finding Z after ear-x-tacy closed down. Most of the EPs and Singles are cheap. Okonokos will cost you a good amount of money, as will a few of the very rare, early EPs/Singles. And then theres MMJ Does Gold Hole and NYE Skit Disk that will cost you a bananas amount of money (if you wanna be a completist). Those are the only two I dont have from MMJ. I know where to buy either online right now, but I dont have a ton of money to drop on either. It hurts.

That was a long answer to a short question.

To be honest, you overpaid if its a recent repressing (now that I see its sold out at Darla, maybe not).  For an original pressing in mint condition, no so bad.

Darla Records has 180g 2xLP copies of At Dawn (sold out ) and The Tennessee Fire for around $20 each.  You shouldn't need to pay any more than that for each of the studio albums.  There are colored vinyl versions of AD and TTF, as well, which are somewhat limited.  Darla also has Jim's Tribute To EP.

I'm starting to wonder, looking at eBay and Darla, if At Dawn will end up going up in price the way Okonokos has, due to its increasing rareness.

Welcome to the crazy world of vinyl!

I just started vinyl this year as well and At Dawn was my first purchase too.  They had it at my record store for around $20-$25.  It's the new Darla pressing.

Good luck with Okonokos, I had to go ahead and get that one out of the way...  $135 is what I paid for it used.  But after listening to the first 2 discs, it's worth it.  haha.
