One of the fellows in the group I'm travelling/staying with is a taper. He said there were at least 5 or 6 other tapers set up around the soundboard. I haven't checked VC recently, perhaps one of the recordings has already been uploaded.

Neko was outstanding tonight, lots of new material, record will be out Sept 3rd.

Fairly standard Wilco set list. Band seemed really happy but were prob more energetic last night. Highlights for me were FarFarAway and You Are My Face.

28 songs and no A Ghost is Born love? That hurts.

Nevertheless, it still was an excellent set list.
I wonder why we listen to poets when nobody gives a fuck

Yeah, I missed hearing AGIB, too. It's easily my favourite record.

I'm looking forward to the Autumn Defense today. I was lucky enuf to see Pat yesterday morning. I gave him one of my Wilco clay pins as a bday gift and got a picture taken with him!

I don't think this has been posted yet. AXSTV (340 on Directv) had an hour long Wilco special last night at 11:45. They were live, and the discription only said, "Music. (2013) The band performs "War on War" and "Jesus, etc." High-Def, CC, Special." It is scheduled for re-broadcast today, June 24, 2013 at 3:30 am (only 2 and a half hours from right now) and once more at 2:00 pm.

i recorded it.  Its from 2003, a PBS Soundstage performance.
Don't you ever turn it off

No kidding! Dying to hear the color me impressed, bet they crushed that one.

It was nice seeing Pavement and the Replacements make the cut.  I was surprised there were no Pixies songs in that set...

if I recall correctly, Tweedy pulled a "Bobby" and forgot the words during Ripple. It sorta falls apart at the end, but still cool to hear them try.

I think in this case, we can say he pulled a garcia....

I heard about this on Tales From the Golden Road on the GD channel on Sirius while travelling back from a weekend of camping at Mammoth Cave.  His last line was, "If I knew the words, I would take you home..."  Classic save by Tweedy!

They actually played Ripple with Phil back in 1999:

Yeah, you know, you're absolutely right. "Standard" probably wasn't a very accurate description. I've never seen them open with "I Got You". I've only seen it near the end of a show with "Red-Eyed And Blue" proceeding it. And songs like "At My Window", "Just A Kid" and "Summerteeth" are definitely not standards.

I suppose what I meant was I thought there would be more of these types of rarities/deep cuts (John's "It's Just That Simple", "Blasting Fonda", "Cars Can't Escape","A Magazine Called Sunset", "Dash 7") as opposed to the amount of usual fare played ("IG", "A Shot In The Arm", "Via Chicago", "HMD", "ITMWLY"). Not a complaint, I still loved the show.

I just bought the ALAC version of night 1 of solid sound from their roadcase thing. I can't not have some of those covers in high quality. If anyone wants... PM me or something.

Also, can we can talk about bad wrap that  W(TA) gets? Its definitely at the low end of the discography, but its not a total bust by any means.

I NEVER understood the hate for WTA. Who did hate it exactly? Pitchfork? What a shocker.

As a latecomer to the Wilco scene, WTA was one of the first albums I picked up, and it grabbed me immediately. "Wilco: The Song" is a great tongue-in-cheek rocker, "Bull Black Nova" is a pounding, circling psychedelic trip if there ever was one, and "Solitaire" is one of the most tender songs Wilco has ever recorded. Kotche's near-silent kick drum on "Solitaire" gets me everytime. It takes a master musician to bring out emotion using the most emotionless instrument there is.

But anyway, "You Never Know", "Sonny Feeling", great rockers I still listen to often. "Country Disappeared" is a fantastic song, another great tender ballad that Tweedy nails and Nels' guitar work on this track is so understated. People rip this album for not "featuring" Nels, but man, the fretwork is there, you just gotta listen for it.

The only times the album comes even close to "dissappointing" for me is "Deeper Down" as the second track -- this song never really did it for me -- and "Everlasting Everything" as the album finale. Both tracks are okay, but if I had to make a pared-down version of this album, those two would be my first cuts.

You Never Know - pounding piano rocker, love it!
Country Disappeared - I love this almost as much as the song Ashes of American Flags, similar mood and topic, I think.
Wilco The Song is just fun, I'd love to hear it live again, it was a good opener, IMO.
I'm not a fan of the anxiety-inducing Bull Black Nova, but it is the arty track on the record and it drives hard.
One Wing is a lovely song, too.

You and I and I'll Fight are amazing songs as well.  I freakin love this album and never understood the disrespect for it.  Country Disappeared is one of my absolute favorite Wilco songs.  Totally agree w/ Shug, though...I fast forward Bull Black Nova every time.
what Madonna said really helped

I don't hate WTA, it (and SBS) just fall to the bottom when I think of their albums.  If I were to place them into tiers, Level 1 - I love Being There through Ghost, Level 2 - a little notch below, but still love AM and Whole Love. Then, for me, there is a separation and SBS and WTA.  That said, I love Impossible Germany every time I hear it, love  One Wing, but just don't find myself ever motivated to listen to the whole album of these two, whereas I don't have this issue with any of their other releases.

So no hate, just not absolute love for me.  Hopefully that made sense.
