I'm flying, and I got a hotel about 10 miles away.

You should check out Real Estate and Richard Thompson. The other two I don't know anything about.
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

MrWhippy

Bill Frisell is a jazz guitarist who has done some interesting things over the years, but not someone I've followed closely.

Richard Thompson being there has me really interested due to the possibility of seeing him sit in with Wilco like he did on the Americanarama tour.  I'm very envious of anyone who got to see that.

Does anyone know if SS has sold out in advance in the past?
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

Richard Thompson's catalogue seems vast, where to begin?

Candyman, I could be mistaken but I don't think SS has ever sold out. Hopefully they announce the lineup within the next few weeks. Hopefully we have MMJ dates around the same time. You should have plenty of time after both announcements to get tix.

Other possibilities for Solid Sound going by their Facebook page are Ryley Walker, Kevin Morby, Cibo Matto, and Mac DeMarco.

Where I started with Thompson a very long time ago was the two most highly regarded he made with his ex-wife Linda, Shoot Out the Lights (from 1982) and I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight (from 1972).

Most of his 80's and 90's records have some great songs but suffer from bad production in my opinion.

Of his more recent studio records, my favorites are Mock Tudor (from 1999) and The Old Kit Bag (from 2003).  Dream Attic (from 2010) is cool in that it is a record of new material that was all recorded live.

The most recent thing he has put out is called Acoustic Classics, and it is a solo acoustic studio recording of a bunch of his older songs.  It's a great representation of what he is like when he plays solo acoustic.

Also, he's put out a ton of official live recordings that are great as they really highlight his guitar playing much more than on record.  Most of those are on Spotify. Some of the good official live recordings are Two Letter Words, Semi-Detatched Mock Tudor, More Guitar, Live Warrior, and Ducknapped.

That should keep you busy for a while.

Here's another good place to start with Thompson.

This is a song called Can't Win from his 1988 album Amnesia, and this clip is from a live DVD he released a couple years ago.

Just listen to the monstrous guitar solo that comprises the last 5 or so minutes of this song, seriously.

Mr. Whippy spot on with the Richard Thompson advice and oh, that solo in Can't Win, wow!

Nels Cline and RT going at it on Sloth or Calvary Cross or any other epic RT song would be like being in heaven for me.

Can't find the thread on here where Whippy and I were talkin' RT recommendations (there are many, I can't find the one I was thinking of)

Considering, but it is doubtful I could make it happen.

Yeah this is great. I've now watched it three times and it keeps getting better. I get why the idea of him and Nels on stage together is exciting. I'll have to see if any recordings are out there from the Americanarama shows. This would fit right in at SS.

There are just a few YouTube clips of when Thompson sat in with Wilco on the Americanarama tour, and none of them are real great quality.  Mostly they did the song "Sloth" together, from Thompson's old band, Fairport Convention.  Here is one of the relatively decent videos:

I grabbed the 3 port chester shows. Loving them! Reservations is great. Cannot wait to see Wilco on this 20 year anniversary tour.

So what's the top 5 songs you all want to catch live from these guys? I've only seen them twice on AmericanaRama so I've got a lot of live songs to catch up on! Here's my top 5 must see (that I haven't seen yet):

At Least That's What You Said
Misunderstood
One Sunday Morning
I'll Fight (girlfriend's favorite song)
Sunken Treasure

I wonder why we listen to poets when nobody gives a fuck

These roadcase shows would make anyone a fan.  Hot damn!!

Impossible Germany is probably at the top of a lot of lists for live Wilco songs.
Art of Almost
A Shot in The Arm
She's a Jar
Don't you ever turn it off

Angelo

Yes, those PC shows are amazing! Essential Wilco listening. The Impossible Germany from night 3 is ridiculous. I've never seen a guitar solo like that before. I'm usually not a big IG fan but this one special.
