My Morning Jacket playing Louisville Palace on CD release date

Courier-Journal.com   12:01 AM, Apr. 25, 2011

When My Morning Jacket recently announced a handful of performances and the list included Lexington but not Louisville, there was some mild grumbling among hometown fans. As usual, there was no point in second-guessing one of rock's most mercurial bands.

Today, MMJ will announce a May 31 show at the Louisville Palace. That's the same day its highly anticipated new album, "Circuital," is being released, and the album's themes of connectivity and unbroken circuits of energy play right into a hometown show.

Tickets will go on sale Friday at noon for $49.50, $1 of which will go to the Center for Women and Families.

"Circuital" is the first album the band has recorded in Kentucky since 2001's "At Dawn" was made at MMJ's infamously silo-enhanced studio in Shelbyville. This time, they convened at Christ Evangelical Church in the Original Highlands and recorded in the gymnasium, resulting in a vibe that recalled the band's formative years.

Jim James and his co-conspirators — Patrick Hallahan, Tom Blankenship, Bo Koster and Carl Broemel — are wildly enthusiastic about "Circuital" and wanted to share the love with Louisville on May 31.

"We wanted to make it a special-occasion type of deal in a more focused place like the Palace, as opposed to the Great Lawn or something like that," James said. "It should be a pretty big affair, a full-on production."

Specific details about the show are still in the works and won't be announced for a couple of weeks, but band manager Mike Martinovich promises they'll be substantial. James is apparently cooking up a story arc, and in videos being released today on the band's website and through various social media outlets, he'll be encouraging crowd participation.

"We will play every song off the new album, so you could say it will be performed in its entirety," James said, "although I'm not sure if we will do it front to back nonstop."
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

Got tix prob three mins after noon on tues cause I was using the pit selection and no tix were available. Got stuck with dd orch 2 pretty bummed. Didn't know it was a crapshoot. Kinda wish I wouldn't of sunk all my money into this hoping the bonnaroo show isn't epic. Someone change my mind.

I wouldn't trade this show for any other this year.  Are you saying you have to miss bonnaroo to go to this.  If thats the case Bonnaroo will come again.  Record release show in the hometown may not.  If you need some convincing that you made the right choice, check ebay and craigslist throughout the next week.  I think you'll be happy you got those tix,  btw who don't like double d's? ;)

Id be lying if I said that didn't cheer me up. I just wanted to be as close as possible festival style. Thinking about lollapalooza since they are on opposite ends of the summer. I did catch the MoF show there on Halloween and it was incredible. I will also be flying solo (literally flying) just like the MoF show so I want to be sure to get down on this pre show meet up. I'll be staying at The Galt on 4th. Thanks Rusty! Cheers for the dd's thing. That was good

Np Ml, but this is all you really need to hear (thx jy),  I have a feeling you'll forget about Bonnaroo before May 31st even gets here.

Man this gets me pumped every time I read,  and yes, I have read it multiple times.

So any reports of pit tickets?

I'm starting to wonder if the pit will be for HD movie cameras for the new movie "Circuital" ;)

Hey everyone, new to posting but I have been reading the boards for a while. Decided after the Lexington show that I had to join Roll Call and scored decent tickets to Louisville, despite having to make the transaction in the middle of my Kindergarten Art class. (I teach elementary art) Anyways, my question is about any predictions about the pre-show scene. Any chance of tailgating?

AlwxanderD10

I'm not entirely sure why but i'm predicting a SICK dondante for this show... :bath:

I was there too and there were a lot of forum members hanging out there before the MoF show.  Someone even brought dessert.

What is this microbrewery you are speaking of?  This will be my first stay in L'ville (staying at the Brown).

I'm hoping to arrive at our hotel between 6 and 7.  It's over a 4 hour drive from my home and my wife has to work until around 2:30 or so.

We'd be up for a meet and greet if we can get there in time.   8)

i'm assuming they're talking about the BBC.     great beer, reasonably good food.

the theater square location is right across the street from the palace.

If anyone hears of any tickets floating around for this show, please let me know.

The Dondante in Lex a few weeks ago blew my mind! A new to me 2-3 minute intro jam then into the glorious work that is Dondante.
