Neko Case is great....

....but what bands were people hoping for? I was really hoping they'd go for any of these

Alberta Cross
Deertick (they are ready!)
J Roddy and the Biz
Delta Spirit
Phosphorescent
The Sheepdogs
...maybe even the Futurebirds

...all would have warmed me up sufficiently IMO

I hope the guys invite Neko out on the stage for some backup vocals, preferably during Golden.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Her and Jim tweeted back and forth about doing some duets.

Albert Cross, J Rob, Delta Spirit would be good. NO DEERTICK.

I'd be just peachy with Wax Fang again.

Nice Scotty glad you agree....I do like Neko though so I'm content that she's aboard but was also hoping to rock my face off to 2 bands

I feel as though Alberta Cross gets no love. They are an awesome band who continue to be unknown. I saw them when Broken Side of Time came out and they totally rocked and figured it would blow up! But alas it didn't...I met them too and they were super nice and gracious.....I figured more MMJ fans would take to them as they sound a bit alike, they'd be a perfect opener too....

Darklands, have you seen them play Mange live? that may sway your opinion  ;)

Ruckus

Please don't get Darklands started on Deer Tick  ::)  Nice list Wolof.  I would love to see Alberta Cross as well.  Perhaps a little heavier but I would kill to see The Rival Sons open for them.  Sadly I'm gonna miss them at Hangout unless I just ditch the Lips.

I'll have to check the Rival Sons out....Ditching the Lips would be a hard choice to make...In another lifetime I ate a bag o fungai at a fest in WestV. before a Lips headlining set and they opened with Bohemian Rhapsody....I thought God himself had descended to lemme know the universe had finally alligned.

Sounds amazing!  I won't be missing the Lips.

Rival Sons are hard, bluesy, throwback psychedelic rock.  They are all talented and their singer reminds at times of Robert Plant/Chris Cornell.  I'd start with their '09 debut Before the Fire before checking out their new one.

EDIT:  I should take out the psychedelic part.  They are just hard rock n roll.

I'd love to see either The Whigs or Band of Horses open for them.  Deer Tick too would be really nice.  Hell, it doesnt matter.  The opening band in any case will be like eating one life saver before eating a whole cheese cake....the first won't be nearly as sweet as the latter.
And all that ever mattered will some day turn back to batter, like a joke.

Looking over your list again, Ive never heard of The Sheepdogs, or Ruckus' Rival Sons. Guess I'll have to check them out. I actually never even heard of Alberta Cross until I saw them on Last Call and liked them, but still havent really digged deeper to listen to albums and stuff. At first I wanted to say all those bands you listed are too popular to open for MMJ, but then I thought how I saw Delta Spirit at a 100 person venue not too long ago, and then realized that Neko is almost certainly more popular than all those bands you listed, and now Im not sure exactly how I feel about this conclusion  ;D...Last guy mentioned Band of Horses, now I think theyre too big to open for MMJ, plus I just dont think itd ever happen since some say they ripped MMJs sound/style.

Another band I wish was opening for MMJ, and conceivably could, plus would put on a rocking opening set, is The Parlor Mob. I started a thread on them awhile back and no one responded  :'( Maybe its time to bump it since I just found out this week they got a new album coming out this summer. Ooh Yeah!

Yeah, that was about 45 minutes out of my life I'll never get back before I walked out. What a waste....

AC was on my best of list last year or was it the year before? I think i got Penny who on them. Such a great album.

ManNamedTruth

I wouldn't rather have anyone else open, I've been waiting for a Jim/Neko duet for years.

I am unfamiliar with all of these bands except Deertick, but I will download them to my player ad see what I am missing. You could not get exposed to music this way in the 70's that is for sure. Thanks for the lineup!

Enjoy Rincon, looking forward to seeing how you feel bout some of them....they are some of my favorite up and coming bands of the past several years...I chose these because I feel like their music is related to, or influenced somewhat by, the MMJ sound/style, although all are pretty much straight rock n roll...plus all would do a hell of a job opening for MMJ.
