Everyone is entitled to their opinion...whether critical of the band or appreciative. I love the bantering and it makes for an interesting forum, especially compared to the dull times I come on here and can't find a new topic for days. NO ONE should be alienated because their post goes against what everyone else thinks.

Just don't take another hiatus mjk, because I love watching Christina Hendricks ass wiggling in your profile pic....mmmmm

kydiddle

No no no....I didn't mean his post. Just in general it's better to not flip shit if someone has a strong viewpoint. Advice I should follow myself sometimes. :embarassed:

And you ARE crazy, darkglow.  ;)

Thanks T and Darky, this really isn't the place it used to be. Not to be elistist about it. Just stating fact. So it's my problem they haven't come to where I live to see them? Riiiight. Some of us can't travel around like we would like and see them all the time. It's think it's childish to come to the bands own website and consistantly complain about a lack of variety at the shows and do it everytime they tour. Yes there are several who do that and its just really annoying. Again, some of us are just grateful that the band loves their fans enough to do webcasts, allow bootlegging, etc. No, I'm not angry (and it wasn't an angry post and this one is nothing compared to some of the angry posts that used to show up here), I'm just sick and tired of the ungrateful behavior around here when it comes to what songs they do or don't play at shows.

It's childish to express a complaint about a band, but it isn't childish to come in here both guns blazing telling people to shut the fuck up. I didn't say a damn thing about how many times who's seen who when or where. I guess I'm just not s big of a fan as you all. Call it whatever you want to help you feel good, but there is blatant elitism going on here. At the palace I met someone who seemed more excited to see a jacket show than anyone I've ever met, and ya know what, this person decided not to Post here any longer because the people who've been here forever made him feel like he was a lesser because he didn't see them 5 years ago. It may not be intentional, but you're doing it. And it is a gross assumption that I'm an ungrateful fan. I made a comment, one little sentence, about similar set lists, and now I'm ungrateful. Give me a break.

Shall we try to keep this somewhat civilized, ladies and gentlemen?

Thank you kindly.

when your out at a party, or a concert, or where ever.. and you're having a good time.. and you hear someone say "shut the fuck up" in a verbally threatening manner does it just become the worst crime in the history of mankind? no.. because people interject with that kind of language these days.. and it's not always attached to some kind of actual malice.

i look at this forum as a big huge convention to connect with those who share the same passion for the same thing.. maybe not the same exact tastes.. some may like some things done more than others.. but overall.. we are all here to share in that passion..

when people are passionate about things.. they should share comments and remarks at this big huge online convention that are in a positive vain.. at least most of the time.. reality is that we're all human beings.. and we don't always just have the most positive things to say about everything that gets thrown our way in life.. and some will find the "current complaints" thread to vent and let out that information..

the recurring trend with some of the posters in question here is that they tend to latch onto some of those negative remarks that slip out here in the "My Morning Jacket" forum and breathe new air into them.. keeping them around..

the post that MJK made could have been construed as hateful or harsh or whatever.. but I think he just wanted to send a shot across the bow of all these naysayers..

the forum's getting really conjested with threads and posts as it should with all the stuff happening in the realm of MMJ

that's not an "elitest" observation.. that's just coming from someone who doesn't like to waste precious time reading negativity on a forum that was created and hosted by that someone's favorite band.. or at least if they do they can always click over to the "current complaints" thread

Dr. Seuss' The Sneetches - Full Version

We should all take a deep breath and recall the lesson Dr. Seuss taught us through the star bellied sneetches.

Really though, I don't mind the expression of dissent if it is witty, well composed and/or makes a point worth pondering...that is not usually the case though.  The use of the board to express "throw shit on the wall to see if it sticks" frustration without leaving the positive opinions room to breathe is a bit disrespectful to those of us reveling in the moment.

yeah, well, I also get the "eilitist" glance when I look at someone yapping on their cell phone during a quiet part of a show. There's just some etiquette that I adhere to that has fallen to the wayside, like complaining about your favorite band's output ON THEIR WEB SITE or illegally downloading a band's music and talking about it on THEIR WEB SITE.
That is what reeks of elitism to me; like My Morning Jacket owes you something and you have some sort or right to take advantage of their success.

After At Dawn, it's allll gravy and icing to me.

Agree to disagree and even if you don't, no one really gets hurt, do they?

I think you're kind of twisting things a bit ewind.  I haven't been in this forum very long.  I think I lurked for about a couple of years and finally took the plunge to join after seeing my first MMJ show in C'bus last May.  So I certainly don't consider myself one of the old guard of this forum, but at the same time, I also don't feel as though I'm being treated like I'm just a noob who doesn't know anything because my post count isn't all that high or because I've only belonged to this forum for a little over a year.  I don't get that 'elitist' vibe at all.

I just kind of tend to agree with Mike's and Tracey's opinions about the percieved ungrateful perception some give in this forum.

As Mikey said, be grateful that MMJ is one of the most fan friendly bands out there.  Be grateful that they allow bootlegging and allow their shows to be available at no charge on Archive.  Be grateful this band brings the same energy to every freaking performance whether the setlist is perceived as being unoriginal or not.

To add one more thing, it's going to be more and more difficult to find setlists that will please everyone as MMJ ammasses more and more material to choose from.  Would I like to hear more older material or some rare gem get pulled out every now and again?  Sure.  But I'm also not going to complain if there happens to be a lack of perceived variety in their set lists because the bottom line is this is still the same band that fucking BRINGS IT to each and every live performance they put on better than any other band out there today!  Just watching them perform live whether it be in person like I had the pleasure of being there for the Palace show or watching the live stream like I did for Mountain Jam and 'Roo always does the same thing and that is bring a huge smile to my face and make me think about how fortunate I feel to have discovered such an amazing fucking band!

Quote from: Sticky Icky Green Stuff7 other than being predictable I thought the overall mix sucked cock.  it made it unenjoyable.  wasn't loud enough, levels were off, jim's voice was kinda rough at times, etc.
;D You realize you were listening to a fucking stream on the internet right?  ;D I've never watched one of these online where what you described above wasn't the case.

CTdeadhead

We mustn't apply standards of other bands to this one.  The Dead and Phish mentality is being applied where it shouldn't.  This is NOT the Dead or Phish!

mjk73

No, not taking another hiatus...was just doing yardwork again. And people, you are complaining about setlists on FREE concerts. Free. Again, FREE. You are going to complain about something trival like set lists from free shows. Wow.

and Bigherm. Exactly. I didn't have issues on my end with sound/vid quality after the first minute or so. Its really hard to judge the quality when its on a stream.

CT- agreed.

I'd say you're more of a jaded vet than an elitist.  criticism is the only thing that's going to keep this band honest and inspired if you ask me.   as for how fans approach that criticism is another story.  if you can't deal with somebody saying a show wasn't as solid as the last couple I can't tell if you're trapped in delusion or just truly love fluffing this band every time they sneeze.  I can't blame you either way for wanting to keep this place positive but tis the evolution of fanbases and the internet.  cynics increase with popularity and as time goes by.  it's really not about feeling entitled at all.  the band or at least the sound for that webcast fucking sucked.  everyone there had a great time from what it sounds like and that's what matters.  but if you're going to sit there and tell me that you honestly think last night was better than Louisville or Mountain Jam I can do nothing more than call you crazy.  it just wasn't that good.  they admit they don't always hit it at a show ,60-80percent of the time Jim says they DO NOT get in the zone but that small 20percent when they do is what it's all about.  when a show is over before you knew it started.  like a flash.  but that did not happen this year at bonnaroo.  it did at mountain jam and the unstaged show, but not the roo.  if you can't handle them playing bad shows and reading reviews about it maybe that's the problem.  Maybe YOU shouldn't be here if it's so uncomfortable for you.  the most bitching I've seen is about a couple songs off of evil urges and maybe a few people complaining about a song or two off of circuital.  that's how things happen, no band is capable of being perfect.

anybody who can't deal with the criticism needs to get off their high horse.  nobody is disputing MMJ is a great band.

You all win, this is never gonna end. I don't like the setlist, there for ungrateful. Yada yada yada

Dillsnufus

it's not that we're ungrateful but we expect more at bonnaroo. the reason of the setlist was probably due to somewhat that they were on  the main stage . they wanted to put out their hits for the massive crowd who probably will include new fans. but the main issue was arcade fire. i love em but if they interfere with MMJ's set they can go straight to hell.

as for the audio quality we should appreciate anything we can get but there are  standards and it was below it. It was a clear play to just have something to promote bonnaroo and the new vevo live streams.

....Did I miss something? Because I honestly didn't catch any "bitching or complaining"
about the setlists, just normal discussion as to why it was similar to the Mountain Jam setlist. And then JohnnYYac added a well-thought explanation, saying that it was because they're catering to a different crowd, full of people who aren't familiar yet with MMJ tunes, so they kind of need to be across the board with the sings they play as opposed to specific older songs that the rest of us love but don't get to hear often. (Paraphrasing you Senor Yac, hopes that's ok). So I didn't really see where all this anger is coming from...

So if anyone is super pissed off, then I guess I'm the one who's supposed to be crucified, because I made one of the first comments (at 10:59 pm last night for you'se researchers) noticing that the set lists were similar
(Exact words I do believe were: "NOT complaining, just observing.")

*Edit: Except that MJ was 100019090x better 'cause I was there en personne. BREATHING THE SAME AIR.....#stalkertendencies
