Don't know where to put this, so putting it here, as idiocy is inherited :o, Just wanted to say, after seeing the gang play in Chicago (my 7th MMJ show), the Circuital songs are working brilliantly live, i, like a few MMJ fans, was not taken aback instantly with the new material.  I "liked" the new Album, but not in the "WOW" style of At Dawn, or "Z", but after hearing the wonderful mixture of Yims haunting new lyrics, and the polished playing of the bands new material live, i am hearing Circuital in a new light, and it has (to me) become a great Album, in it's own mellow way... Anyone else hear it in a new light after hearing the new songs live?. Rock on MMJ.
A lie is not always a bad thing, as it must lead to a truth!

Absolutely. That was exactly my experience, in the extreme, going into the Pantages show in LA and coming out of the show totally "getting" Circuital.  Sometimes the brilliance of really good albums takes a bit of time to fully reveal itself to me.

took me a while to get into the new album.  i'll be seeing them tonight in oakland.

for me for them, Circuital > EU almost top to bottom.  i do like the touch mes though.

I'm sort of the opposite, I loved Circuital the first time through but after listening to it a bunch (perhaps too much) I'm not as in love. IMO the songs don't have much staying power, that is to say that lack the same ongoing appeal that the Okonokos songs have..

I'm not complaining,  just pointing out different degrees of good really.

It's hard to genre bend like they do take big risks writing new material...it's by definition not going to hit the bulls-eye every time. :)

PS Back to the original topic I think the new songs are very polished...I look forward to them being deconstructed and built back up arraignment wise...you know some solos etc.

i've been jonesin' for days like back when they used to rip out different incarnations of "lay low" or "don dante".. back when the times when jim wasn't so predictable.. these new songs and the new energy being plugged into even the oldest of old songs.. makes me think this the best album that could have been made as a progression from "EU"

best.. fucking... band.. in the WORLD

all these dudes are constantly blowing me away more and more each show..

DaFunkyPrecedent

nope...i've loved the album from the second I put it on.
God damn those shaky knees.

I've loved the album from my first listen, but it is obvious that these songs are made to be played live. Victory Dance and Circuital are great show openers and listening to them as the sun sets at bonnaroo was the perfect way to hear them live for the first time. The other songs almost seem like long timers for me, I forget that they are from the new album until I go back and listen to it again.
