Brumfield

The crowd around me was really digging the Evil Urges stuff and singing along and everything.  I have to admit I am not a fan of that album, but the live versions were pretty great and full of energy and I had a blast.  I would like to hear more older stuff as well, but you know that's just how it goes.  I was very happy with the setlist, especially since I missed them last tour and this was my first time hearing any of the EU stuff live.

THIS. When I am at a Jacket show, I do not find myself pondering the setlist, at least not for long -- I am usually busy having my panties rocked the fuck off. I suppose it's different when one is not at the show and is judging the setlist later, but still I find myself wishing I had been there more than wishing the songs had been different.

If they change the setlist, they make a mistake.

If they are predictable in what they play, they're making a mistake.

Part of enjoying a varied set list is the not knowing what is going to be excluded as well.

With that said, how long was War Begun?

I triple this emotion.  even as much as I complain about setlist variety, when I'm at a show it's hard not to get lost in the zone no matter what they play.  haven't seen them in 3years so just being in the presence of that type of audience and band will be a thrill within itself.

No doubt, as much as I love the technology of band message boards it just serves as a forum to allow everyone to bitch about set list selection. As long as they're playing different sets every night, I'm happy (although Dondante should be in every set, every time).

War Begun was AMAZING. I've seen them 8 times now since Z and that was probably the greatest single song I've seen them bust out. 10 minutes or so? Listened to the album cut on the way back to Seattle today, I think it's fair to say they've tuned that one up a bit over the years!

Spare a thought for those of us across the other side of the world who can only dream about witnessing a MMJ setlist! I'd take 5 EU songs any day of the week over two tours here in the bands entire existence...

And for what it's worth, this setlist looks fucken awesome, just like every other setlist of this tour.
At my house, we call them uh-ohs.

It's one of their monsters, and I'd consider it a rarity at that. Glad it rocked your socks off, I only got it at T5 and it was everything I had hoped for.

It always has been a different animal when played live compared to the album track, and it has been "tuned up" over the years. Here's one from 2003:

My Morning Jacket - War Begun

I got it at Red Rocks ( :D ) in 2008, when they were playing it between 6-7 minutes and I can't remember how long they went with it at T5, but if they've knocked it back up to around 10 minutes, wow. The T5 rendition was incredible, and I imagine they are really tearing it up now.

I cannot wait to hear it again on the T5 vinyl box set. Choder, when are you gonna send that thing?  ;) :D

i'd say it was closer to the 5 - 6 min range.  i actually timed steam engine (/nerd) and it was 12 min.  war begun was not nearly as long.

but of course time has no meaning at a jacket show.  time both stops and moves far too quickly.  it could have just as easily been 45 seconds or 45 minutes.

I ordered a new vinyl-to-vinyl press machine, so as soon as that comes in and I set it up, I'll begin mailing out the red-white-and-blue vinyls.

Yes but there are some songs that just beg to be played long and lovely. War Begin, PWW, Strangulation, Dondante, Steam Engine, Lay Low, and most of Circuital.

Conversely, there are other songs that are made for medleys too that I wish they'd incorporate more. Easy Morning Rebel, Smokin, Touch Me 2
