Niceist for a shortest set, seems like they took steam engine out after the first leg of the tour
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

Northern Neighbour

The band was in fine form tonight, although Jim's voice started to crack during Smokin' and there were a couple of equipment glitches - Jim's peddle appeared to get stuck during Dondante, which lead to an odd beat in the background; and Carl's ear piece may have been off tune leading to a screech in his ear, as he held both of his hands to his ears.

Otherwise, the band was great.  Carl, in particular, was on top of his game.

The wifey and I hung out with Johnny and GO4IT and his wife during the show (front rail on Jim's side), and the five of us went out for a drink afterwards.  I'll try to post a photo later on unless Johnny or GO4IT beat me to the punch.  We also met some other fans, including one who was seeing Jacket for the first time.

To my surprise, the crowd was quite large.  My guess is anywhere between 10K and 12K, but it was hard to see how deep the crowd went.  The crowd, for the most part, was quite loud, although not many jumpers or fist pumpers in the group, but my wife and I took care of that.

Jacket didn't perform an encore but instead plowed through their setlist.  Fortunately, they were given 2 hours to play instead of the originally scheduled 1 hour 45 minutes.

Oh, I didn't the drumstick that I was hoping to get in Montreal and here.  We also didn't get a setlist.  Oh well.  The show was great.  Too bad it wasn't longer.

GO4IT

It was great hanging out with johnnYYac and Northern Neighbour and his wife, along with some other good folks, on the rail right in front of Jim.  It was a huge stage and set back quite a bit from the rail so it wasn't quite the "three feet from Jim" experience we had in Toronto but I'm not complaining.
It was my 11th show, all 2 1/2-3 hr affairs (except MSG) and, despite the reality of the clock and setlist, it felt like one of their typical long sets when all was said and done.  As NN pointed out, they just kept on going without a break.  The sound up front was clean, clear and just the right volume so that was sweet.
It was nice that they were able to include a nice long Dondante which got cut from the Toronto show.
I always love to hear The Way That He Sings ever since they went over the top with it at RCMH.
And Black Metal seems to grow more confident as a kick ass rocker with every show; they killed it last night.
Had me satisfied by the end of the show but now I'm ready for more.

A most excellent night.  Thanks for filling folks in as I made my way, slowly, home to NH.

7 hours of driving and sore from last night.  A great short setlist, no breaks, the sound mix was perfect, I got a great spot, good friends surrounding.  The best Slow Slow Tune I've seen so far (3 times in person, 2 times on video).  Carl was going nuts on this otherwise subdued song.

I fear the size of the crowd was less than we thought.  Reports that Buddy Guy drew a bigger crowd.  Hey, it is a blues fest and BG is great!  But so were MMJ.  What a fantastic night!

The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

It was aweeesome. Glad they played Dondante cause I didn't get to see it at Bonnaroo! Dondante has changed since Okonokos days!... If you heard people yelling out "he has the thing!" that was my drunk ass buddies talking about the omnichord thing for Touch pt 2.

One of my friends also managed to get a set list and a.... drum skin?

Drum head.  We were right there, me and Northern Neighbor right in front of Jim's mic stand.  I remember the setlists and drum head getting tossed, along with a drumstick just out of NN's reach.  Amazing how well they played through the glitch with Jim's pedal during Dondante; too bad the tempo of the noise didn't match the tune.

Yeah, they still owe me a drumstick after missing out two nights in a row!   :D

I cannot see your pics from work, but I'll check again later tonight after Bluesfest. We might be meeting up again with GO4IT and his wife.

Some pretty surreal news from Bluesfest this evening, and my wife and I were there to witness it.

Tonight was the last night of the Ottawa Bluesfest.  It was a very hot and humid day with the humidex reading around 40 degrees Celsius.  Around 6:00, clouds started to slowly roll in.  Then at about 7:15 during Cheap Trick's set at the main stage, the sky became black.  My wife and I were getting food, so we were away from the stage.  As it started to rain, the vendor yelled to me, "Look at the birds", who were flying quickly south.

Then the wind whipped up, going from 35 KM/hour to over 100 suddenly. The tarps around the main stage started to furl.  Cheap Trick ended their song and ran from the stage according to reports.  About 10 to 15 seconds after, the stage collapsed like a house of cards, from the wind or possibly a microburst given the sudden change in the wind.  Fortunately, the stage collapsed away from the crowd, where there were probably about 10,000 to 15,000 watching Cheap Trick and several more thousand people at the food kiosks and the other stages.

I'm not sure if there are any fatalities, but there are reports of people being hurt.  Pretty surreal sight.  Here's the link to the news report:
