WOW!  What a great show once again by the boys last night in C'bus!

I gotta say I was a bit bummed when I saw the Indy setlist from the night before had Phone on it as I was hoping to hear my first Phone last night.  And seeing Strangulation and The Bear played at Red Rocks I was wondering what the boys were going to pull out for us last night.

Needless to say, they didn't disappoint!   :D  Not only did they break out Strangulation (arguably my favorite Jacket song) again, but they also busted out Just One Thing as well!     And let me tell you, they were freaking on fire from Magheeta to the close of the first set!  Slow > Dondante > Smokin' > End of Run Thru > Strangulation >Touch Part 2 was freaking mind blowing?!   :o

As it is everytime I see this awesome band, I leave MORE than satisfied.  They left me thirsty for more which is why I'm happy I only have to wait just over a week to see them again in Detroit!   Not even the rains could dampen the mood at the end as it seemed like more of a cleansing to end the show with!   8)

This was just amazing.  I was right in front of Yim. :D  He made eye contact with me so many times then gave me a cookie just before they left the stage at the end of the set.  I also got a drumstick from Patrick.
If we could "favorite" posts, I would definitely do so to yours. The image of YY doling out refreshments is too absurd and awesome to fully comprehend.

here are a few pictures from last night

um, ok, this might be long, but that was probably the best concert experience of my life!

i had won soundcheck tix on cd101 (best radio station ever?) the week before and they told me then that it didn't come with tix to the show.  that was ok b/c my wife and i already had bought tix.  we get there for the soundcheck and they said that there had been a mix-up and that it did come with tix to the show.  ok, so what to do with the 2 extra we've got?

we are let in to the souncheck and it was amazing!  it felt like a private mmj concert for about 20 people.  they came out in their 'street' clothes, jim had some nice banter with us, and they played 3 songs: slow, slow tune; outta my system; and you wanna freak out.  no going through the motions either.  they said bye and started to leave the stage, so i was kind of disappointed b/c the venue lady had described it as a 'meet and greet' a couple times and i had brought my roll call poster and a sharpie.  but then they handed out a circuital promo poster signed by the band to everyone at the soundcheck.  nice!  the merch tent was just getting set up, so we stop there and snag a poster.  i'm sure it was the first one sold, but i didn't think to ask for the lowest number available.    :(

we had 2 hours to kill before doors.  i get in touch with my second cousin to see if he wants the extra tix, but he can't go.  his son is though, and checks in with him to see if he knows anyone that wants them.  he does, and we meet up and give him the tix we had bought to give to his friends.  the decision to give them away and not sell them to the many scalpers around or anyone else paid off in good karma in a big way later!

we get into the venue and get a spot right in the middle, about the 4th row (should have gotten in line sooner, oh well).  neko case was excellent, best out of the 3 times we've seen her.

then the jacket!  the highlights:
-jim handing/throwing out circuital cookies at the beginning and throughout the show (have they done this before?)
-anytime and just one thing!
-an extended jam during the 'pause' in magheeta
-15 minute dondante
-strangulation!  (good karma #1) my favorite jacket song and i finally heard it live at my 11th show.  i figured it was going to be the standard smokin-end of run thru-smokin ending, but as you can see in the video in the other thread, they seamlessly blended it in.  i almost cried.
-at the climax of wordless chorus, jim throwing his cape onto the drums! patrick kept playing and jim quickly went over and grabbed it off.  tom was cracking up.
-the crowd losing it to black metal and one big holiday
-the extended intro jams on several songs
-the smiles and laughs the guys would share with each other throughout the show
-the showmanship and passion they all displayed (but you all knew that already)
-at the end, my wife got up on the rail and there were 3 setlists they were handing out.  there were tons of people and i figured we'd have no shot as usual.  but for the last one, the guy giving them out made a point to make sure it got in her had by grabbing onto it and shooing everyone else's hand away.  thanks man, we'll always love you! (good karma #2)

totally terrific and now we are trying to devise a way to get to cincinnati!

yeah that roadie was pointing at my brother for the setlist and the security guy grabbed it from him and and gave it to your wife I guess.  I got a drumstick though so its all good.     My bro was really bummed out though.

I signed up just to post in this thread, all though I'm sure I'll be here to stay.

Hey twinben, I was one of the few guys ahead of you in line when you got there, in the Bonnaroo t-shirt. You were telling me about the Decibel Club card. I should look into it, it sounds awesome. That being said, I was first in the gate after the Decibel Club members so I was on the rail right in front of Jim's mic. I looked over and saw you and your brother, you were about 3 people to the left of me.

blueslikehail, I'm extremely jealous of you and the rest of the soundcheck..."participants"? Although when you guys were walking out of the gate one guy somehow wound up with two signed posters and he handed one to me....that was a great way to start what I agree was one of the best concert experiences of my life. I'm curious about the cookies too...is that a trend this tour? Or was that just for us?

This was only my 2nd Jacket show (first being Bonnaroo in June). blueslikehail summed up the night pretty well, but I've got a few to add:
-A few minutes into Dondante it started to sprinkle....I was hoping for a rainstorm to carry us through the rest of the show but it just continued to sprinkle on and off. I thought it was pretty cool though.
-For the most part the crowd, which is usually hit-or-miss with Columbus shows, was spectacular. You could feel the tension building during moments like the jam during Mahgeeta, and when they finally broke into the end of the song everyone went insane.
-At the end I tried unsuccessfully to get a setlist, but I wound up with one of Jim's green picks. It's going in a frame along with the poster and my ticket.

I'd share some of my favorite pictures but I don't have them uploaded anywhere.

twinben

I remember you SilentJay you really should look into Db Club if you go to a lot of shows in columbus.
here's the Cookie Jim tossed to me

oistheone

That is the coolest-looking baked good I've ever seen.

Please tell me you ate it.

twinben

Of course I did. Jim smiled at me as he threw it.  :D

You all summed it up so well, but I want to thank the impeccably and appropriately dressed slimsloslider for meeting with me and my guest and getting us a pretty good spot!  Sorry you didn't get to hear The Bear...great show though!  I owe you a few beers next time.  I would have this time but I was drinking kinda slow (had a 2+ hr drive home)...so you were beating me to it on the beer runs.

Missed out on a poster, so if anyone has an extra I will buy/trade.  Did snag Carl's solo record (signed).

Show did kind of end for me on a scary note...leaving our parking garage this dude jumps out of his car, jumps on the hood and starts punching out the windshield, then yelling like a madman at his girlfriend.  He had to have broken his hand.  We drove past one more time and asked if they were okay, but we called the cops out of fear for her safety.  I saw them at the show too, they seemed fine then...

MMJ never disappoints though   Two songs in my guest goes "These guys are good!"
We could.

um, not how we remember it playing out.  in any case, you felt the need to jump right in and post this for what?  bum us out?  make us feel guilty?   ::)
