Did anyone do the sound check at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia MD? How was it? How many people were there? How long did it last?

Thanks

BigHerm

Found this in another thread when I was searching for the same answer...

Quote from: kydiddleI also went to the soundcheck and I am not sure if I would pay the money for it again...the signed poster was worth it as was Jim passing around the golden bear for everyone to touch. (According to him, the price of gold dipped, so this would help us all...) ahahaha. There was also a little bit of banter between him and Carl. The guys were really relaxed and Outta My System (least favorite song in the new album) sounded fantastic. Jim stomped and jerked his head to the beat, it was fantastic. More than half the people there were radio station winners and did NOT look like Jacket fans, but people who just won tickets and were probably leaving right after. It's a shame because more Roll Call folks should have had this. They played Slow Slow Tune, Outta My System and Freak Out. I think it was Freak Out, my mind is going blank.

I have Soundcheck tickets from Roll Call for the Alpharetta show.  Did the staff let you stay in the pit or did they clear it out?  My fear and biggest reason I purchased the tickets is to guanrantee a spot as close or on the rails as possible.  Want to see them upfront and centered.  Any advise for those going to the Soundcheck for the Alpharetta show?

Thanks in advance.
And all that ever mattered will some day turn back to batter, like a joke.

I did NOT have tickets to the soundcheck for the MPP show. Apparently after the soundcheck they completely cleared out the pit, even for people with pit tickets.

For whatever reason, the folks at MPP let a few (maybe a dozen) of us with Pit tickets into the food/beverage/merch area after the soundcheck was over but before the gates were officially open.
The wind blew me back, via Chicago, in the middle of the night.

They cleared us out of the pit, but let us down a few minutes before they opened the gates. Literally, like 2 minutes. However, if the pit at your venue requires a wristband, be sure to get this BEFORE re-enter for the show. They never told us we had to have a wristband (even though they already scanned our ticket) and Sass and I were escorted (kindly) out the back to get a band and then walked back in. It didn't affect our spot in the pit, but all the same it was a detour we didn't want.

The sound check was cool. About 60-70 people. More than half of them were radio winners. They let the radio people go in first, then someone from the band checked the Roll Call list and let us in. Have fun!

Thanks for the heads up on the wrist band!! Where did you have to go to pick up the wrist bands at?  Was it at Will Call as well or where they scan the tickets to let people in the venue?

The soundcheck was cool.  Jim came out and addressed the crowd (about 50-60 people).  He was joking around about people maintaining their cool and not moshing too much.  They played three songs: Slow Tune, Outta My System, and Freak Out.  There was a little banter between Jim and Carl, but not any noodling or adjusting of equipment, etc.

It seemed as if anyone from soundcheck wanted to be on the rail for the show, they could have made it happen without too much hassle.  It looked  hanging around by the bar/merch area just outside the pavillion would have worked well.  The MPP people didn't make you leave so you could get a head start to the pit from right at the pavillion instead of outside the gate.  I didn't know about the wristband issue.

We had to go back to the gate where they were scanning tickets. Good luck....hope all goes smoothly for you!

I have soundcheck tickets as well and I cannot wait!  I saw Phish at this venue and had pit tickets and we got our wristbands inside the venue on the ramp down to the pit so I don't think we will have to go to the venue entrance to get wrist bands.

I wouldn't sweat fighting for a good spot in the pit in ATL. It's a really roomy pit and you can pretty much get a decent spot 20 mins before the headliner takes the stage. There will probably be a decent exodus between Neko and MMJ so you can always move in during that time. Plus, the pit isn't even sold out so I'm hoping for some extra space on Sat night.

Were you sent any information (besides the confirmation email) about the sound check party?  I I see is that it begins at 6:30.  Do you just go to will call before 6:30 to get your tickets?

They sent the confirmation email for the purchase and then another email the day before, detailing where to go at the venue.

Awesome.  Thanks for the information.  I could have sworn the confirmation email said they would email us the week before the show so I was getting nervous.

In case anyone is curious, this was awesome!

We arrived at the appropriate time, and there were about 50 people milling around in front of the gates, which were still closed.

The band was performing their "technical" sound-check, we were told. Of course, we could hear it, and it was awesome. Snippets of songs, talking to each other, playing around. Honestly, that was very, very cool. There were apparently 4 radio contest winners (they had their picture taken) and the rest were Roll Callers, Gilt City purchasers.

As we were given our instructions (no flash photography, no video recording) i heard them test out the part of Cobra where the beat changes and the song picks up speed... it was just a second but i about jumped out of my skin. Then Patrick played the opening drum beat to it, and I knew we were going to get one that night.

They quit playing and we were led down to the pit. There was room for everyone to set up right on the rail. Jim came out and give us some banter ("no moshing"). Then they played 3 songs off the new record, first of which was slow tune.

It was a lot of fun and very cool. Afterwards we had to leave the venue entirely. I think most stayed in the lot. We went back and reconnoitered with our crew at the hotel, then went to the main lot and partied down.

Great show. Cobra was ridiculous. Stop draggin my heart was tons of fun. I loved everyone doing the tomahawk chop ... wtf?... hahaha! you can hear it on the recordings too.

Soundcheck at Alpharetta was absolutely awesome!  Hope they continue to do this going forward with their tour (except hopefully allow more Roll Call members to enter).  Being front row was absolutely epic.  Wish they had a longer set but playing three shows in a row had to be tough on them.  They played a really short set in Charlotte so I shouldn't complain.  Saw Jim James walking across the parking lot.  Should have ran up to him but I didnt want to creep him out.  Loved that show!!  One hell of a good time.
