Simons bass lines on this album are fucking killer. Well, they pretty much always are, but still...

This is the ultimate Cure lineup.  Each member both takes turns being mind-blowing stars and being them together....creating a milky way minblowingness.

Except Lol, who really didnt do anything but get wasted by this point. This was his last album. He is credited on Disintegration, but actually he didn't to anything on it. He barely did on this.

Well, I'm really fascinated by the keyboard duties on this and disintegration.  I actually think they are REALLY amazing.  I was listening to this today thinking, "man this has to be the same guy from disintegration" but he wasn't credited on wiki for Disintegration which really confused me.  I think he is really atmospheric and beautiful, like the keys on Disintegration.  Like MMJ's first keyboard player, who I always thought must have been big

The first record that ever showed me how powerful the effect marijuana and music could have on each other was "Show"

Show rules! However, I prefer Paris.

Interesting that you pick this album then.  I always thought of Paris as being more Faith, Pornography, 17 seconds.  Which is sort of a diffrent Cure, than Wish, Kiss Me, Head on the Door.

I was thinking about Pornography. I love all sides of the cure. I love that Paris starts with the figurehead and has Letter to Elise and Dressing up on it. For this I wanted something a little more, i don't know....deminsonal? Pornography (while I love it) is straight up morbid, this has more sides to it.

Especially when compared to the actual first single off this album the song before.

Why is a nice song, but a bit to synthy and poppy for my taste.  How
Beautiful really captures all of the sounds of this band so well.

Great point, this pretty much hit's about three or four dimensions The Cure is able to create.  Disintegration is my favorite but they really just hold steady in one universe for that one

How Beautiful You Are Has Accordion?

This record really does an amazing job of using Strings, Brass, Woodwinds, etc... in just the right places without being cheesy or lame.

and the lyrics.....

And in the road before us
Stood a weary greyish man
Who held a child upon his back
A small boy by the hand
The three of them were dressed in rags
And thinner than the air
And all six eyes stared fixedly on you

The father's eyes said "Beautiful!
How beautiful you are!"
The boy's eyes said
"How beautiful!
She shimmers like a star!"
The childs eyes uttered nothing
But a mute and utter joy
And filled my heart with shame for us
At the way we are

I turned to look at you
To read my thoughts upon your face
And gazed so deep into your eyes
So beautiful and strange
Until you spoke
And showed me understanding is a dream
"I hate these people staring
Make them go away from me!"
There's Still Time.........

The synthy drums on Snakepit are iffy for me.  Yeah, so far the Kiss, Torture and TOnight work for me.

Porl actually did most of the keyboard parts on this.

Porl and Robert take Snakepit OVER!!!!!!  What great guitar interplay.  What a perfect sound for a song called snake pit.  Hypnotize.

OH MY GOD....this.....i used to listen to this (cassette) over and over and over at nite, and usually fall asleep to it.............
The Cure has always been a band that I definitely need to be in the right mood and mindset for, but this album alway works for me.

Yeah.  Agreed!  Total psychelics on that one...

But yeah, as I make it through Snakepit, this song is pretty sick!  How do these songs translate live?  This would be awesome!

Never seen Snakepit live but, they know what they are doing live.  I wasn't sure if it was the intensity of the lights or the wall of sound, or just to be in the same place on the planet as Robert.....but I was in tears by the middle of the first song.

Exactly, I hate when people say The Cure is depressing.  He writes the most beautiful and uplifting songs about BEING IN LOVE.  Just Like Heaven is one of the greatest songs written.  Period.

agree with all of this....they are not even close to the most depressing band I've ever heard. I feel Elliot Smith and even Joy Division has them beat in that dept....I always felt that depressive music got a bad rap anyways.

So, Hot Hot Hot and One More Time make me wonder if Prince was influenced by the Cure or vice versa.  I need to look that up.  :)

All I Want is another of those songs on this album that has it all.  The haunitng guitar riffs mixed with the keyboards and bass lines.  Beautiful song...
