Now we're only one week out from the show.  Any local folks have a suggestion yet on a meet-up place for some beers and grub before the show?
I received a message from Ticketweb a couple of days ago that "The venue has informed us that the door time has changed from 19:00 to 18:00."  I hope this means that they are planning an extra long show.  For those seeing an MMJ show for the first time, they are usually no joke on start times.  Sometimes they are a bit late but for the Ottawa Blues Fest this July they actually started 15 min before their scheduled start time!  Anyone know when the show might start if the "door time" is 6PM?

So excited about this show, SO EXCITED!  :D :D :D :D

Got a couple of friends from Leeds.  Will post a nearby meeting place for eats/drinks tomorrow night...  and really looking forward to a weekend of Jacket!

There's a Wetherspoons pub close by the Academy, which might be a good bet.  Beer and food are cheap and plentiful (good range of real ales), and it'll be plenty big enough for there to be tables available for however many turn up.  Link here:

Doors are now at 6pm, so how about a 4pm meet?

Mark W, that sounds good for a meet-up place.  I'll be there between 4 and 5, probably wearing a blue and white vertical striped shirt and small rimless glasses.  I'm no spring chicken but it will be my 15th show and I'm ready to rock.
It was going to be my 14th show, but I figured out a way to get to Birmingham just in time (although I'll probably miss some of the opening act).  So, it's OK again to talk about Birmingham on this thread  ;) unless there's another one specifically for that show.

MarkW

Excellent - look forward to seeing you there.  I imagine I'll be wearing an MMJ T-shirt of some sort and clutching a beer.  Don't know if you've got a mobile phone while your over, but I've PM'd you my number in case it all goes tits up.

I'm sure you can overcome your shyness for a drink with the European Jacketeers, SBB...

So Pete Townshend was on the same Jools Holland show with MMJ a few days ago.
Just a coincidence?
Were they practicing backstage for a couple of Who covers to be busted out at Leeds?
Would it be so terrible to play a Who cover even if Pete or Roger can't make it?
Still dreaming.

Heading out to the meet-up in a few minutes.  Went by the venue a couple of hours ago and Jim was on the second floor balcony fooling around with his acoustic guitar and some music on a stand (no doubt practicing Who songs ;))
I called up to him and we exchanged a few words.

Hope the monitors don't catch fire! Roundhouse on Monday for me.

SBB, Sunnyday, GO4IT and I are all on the rail in Leeds.  Great set from THATH.

Edit;  fuller review to follow, but tonight we got At Dawn and IWSYS.  No Dondante or Gideon, though.  The guys looked like they were enjoying themselves.

Great gig last night, started early at 8pm which caught quite a number of people out who rolled in around 20:45, with half the gig over. This venue becomes a nightclub on Saturday at 10:30pm, hence the early start. Small but fanatical crowd, who were going ape shit by the end. Only seen MMJ twice before, @ Glastonbury in 2003 and Hop Farm a few years back. Great to see a full headlining MMJ set. Went with my wife and brother who both loved it.

There were no Who covers played last night but MMJ's version of Live at Leeds lived up to the legend IMHO.  Showtime had been moved up an hour and when SBB, Sunnyday, MarkW and I arrived about 20 min after the 6PM door opening, we had little trouble securing prime spots on the rail.  The Head and the Heart started shortly after 7 and played another excellent half hour set as they did in Birmingham where I saw them for the first time.  MMJ took the stage about 8:50 and tore it up from the beginning.  The sound on the rail was stellar which is not always the case.  They played the whole planned setlist which doesn't usually happen (see below) and pretty much stayed to the basics (e.g. no extended Mahgeetah as we have seen in the states on this tour).  Highlights for me were Circuital, At Dawn, Outta my System, IWSYS and Black Metal.  They were really on last night.  One of the best of many shows I've seen

Victory Dance
Circuital
I'm Amazed
Off the Record
It Beats
At Dawn
Wonderful
Outta my System
First Light
IWSYS
Golden
Smokin from Shottin
Touch Me Part 2
Wonderful Man
Mahgeetah
Encore:
Movin Away
Wordless Chorus
Day is Coming
Black Metal
OBH

?? It was 8pm when we walked in as Victory Dance started. It was an amazing version of Black Metal.

The capacity at the O2 Academy in Leeds is 2700. I reckon there were about 800 there last night. It was a great gig, still buzzing from it.
