Does anyone know why they don't play the whole thing anymore?  As great as the ending is, the beginning is even better, IMO.  Is there hope it will come back?  What's the dilly?
anything + reverb always = better

I dunno man. I used to love hearing the starting chords and know you were about to get into the crunk. It was the perfect build up to a great freak out that let you down gently. I miss it too.
Be the cliché you want to see in the world.

Here's what I think the dealio with Run Thru is: they've found a cool way to run into it out of Smokin' and then into Touch Me as well as some others, and they're going to do that for a while. Soon they might not play it at all, and it's going be like Phone Went West, which hardly saw the light of day for a couple years, until they finally broke it out again and it kicked so much ass. Think about how badass Run Thru is going to be when it goes back to getting the full treatment. It's probably going to be a while, but like all things that are worth waiting for, it will be worth it.

Too true, I like this way of looking at it!  :)

it just pisses me off everytime they tease me with it...I would rather them just scratch it all together.
God damn those shaky knees.

Looks like you're getting your wish.

I agree.  I think it should be all or nothing.  Same with Lay Low.

On one hand, it makes you miss the full versions, yes, but I find this way more interesting than simply playing a song front to back.  I kind of wish they would do this more often with other songs.. but maybe a fair compromise would be to change up which songs get halfed or sliced and play them full once in a while..

However, the Smoking/end of Run Thru combo was probably too amazing not to play almost every show.  Aside from OBH, i dont' know that i looked forward to any other staple more.

Why is it called "End of Run Through" when they usually just do the middle? Only once have I heard the middle and the end on this tour, and that was Pantages. Maybe they have done it more, but usually it is just the jam, which clearly is not the end, but they list it as such.

I literally just put this same post up not realizing that it was up, here's what I wrote:

"I was just wondering if any of you guys can tell me why the band seldomly plays Run Thru now and usually play the 2:15 solo usually starting it from the end of Smokin from Shootin?

My only explanation is that the songs notes cause too much damage to Jim's voice during the show so they scrap most of the song minus the brief solo I mentioned above. Regardless of the reason it's my favorite song and it's too bad they stopped playing it live in its entirety.

Thanks for the rockin you guys have provided me since 2002, you are listened to daily!"

Anyone know if this could be true??

I agree with the all or nothing sentiment.
A)I don't think the transition fits all that well and
2)it's like having a helicopter set you down on top of Mt. Everest...It's just not as cool without the climb.

Well then they've pulled off quite the feat then.

I'm in aviation and this made me curious, so I looked it up:

http://www.eurocopter.com/site/en/ref/Overview_68.html

"The high-performance member of the Ecureuil family, the AS350 B3 outclasses all other single engine helicopters for performance, versatility, safety and competitive acquisition and maintenance costs. It excels in hot conditions and very high altitudes, and broke records when a standard production aircraft landed on the top of Mount Everest in 2005 (altitude: 29,029 ft / 8,848 m)."

....and now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

For some reason i see Bo chasing people around in that while his synthbass keyboard in Run Thru is blasting on the loud speaker.

Kind of like a real world version of the post-apocolyptic scenes in Terminator 1.

So I'm listening to side four of Evil Urges, Smokin' is fadin' out, and I'm thinking "where's Run Thru?"  Got to where I expect clock arms after Smokin' every time.
