I'm usually not a fan of them. But, there were a bunch at Alpharetta and people just threw bunches of them straight up in synch with parts of certain songs. It was sort of neat but every once in awhile they made their way onstage.

Never understood why you would throw something hard at someone you just paid money to play live music. Drugs I guess.

You're the same people who win all the Phish lotteries and subsequently ruin Phish concerts.

I thought the hippy jam scene birthed the glow stick nonsense. Pretty sure it wasn't Metallica  ;)
Be the cliché you want to see in the world.

Maybe, but it was probably some Guster bro who totally heard that poker song at the frat house when he smoked his first j and became an instant Phan

You guys are lame. You clearly never went to Bonnaroo or the Terminal 5 shows. Obviously you weren't with the band in the beginning. Band wagoneers. You're probably here for Band of Horses.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Oh I'll never say I knew you, but my heart can't wait to meet you on the other side

After reading all these post, I feel bad for being associated with glowsticks at Alpharetta. So here is my apology to everyone that I may have annoyed. In my defense, it was my first MMJ concert so I was kind of new to the whole experience (which was one heck of an experience by the way!)

I was indifferent to them until I saw some assholes intentionally playing "let's see who we can hit with the glow sticks"

Glowsticks always get outta hand...they should stay with the candy kids at the electronic shows.

NoVa_NoLa

So, will the person who threw the glow stick that hit Jim late in the show please stand up?  Lamey lame lameness...

Sassbox

Ugh, I saw a couple of those sad little sticks/rings on the stage. Weak.
God sure baked a lot of fruitcake, baby.

This is why glow sticks should only be for 7 year old kids at Disneyland. No matter the intentions, some asshat always throws them at the band. Boooo on glow sticks at rock shows.

glow sticks do not work well at MMJ shows, they really have no place, especially when (it seemed like) there is only 50 in the whole place

I am uncertain that they work anywhere...  And what happens to them when they're done glowing, anyway?  Those shits aren't just biodegrading!!!  Don't mind me over here.....
Daylight is good at arriving in the night time

marshmeli

well i guess they "work" at phish shows since they started there and works during their jams and lights... but yes the whole trash thing is a lot of unneeded waste for sure

Luna Moth

pretty sure glowsticks didnt start at phish but yea they definitely work better there. i dont mind having 2, only 2, blue and green, on my left wrist at festivals. they are fun to watch at sts9, dubstep/electro stuff when those people launch million in the air, there is also no one singing..

They do not work with MMJ and Panic. Jim always plays it real cool when its thrown his way, JB(as nice as he is) always give that look "what the fuck kid"

One thing about Jim is that he shows love towards everyone, including ravers n candy kids, ive even read a comment of his where he doesnt mind the whole electronic craze that has been going on. He really just likes music and how it affects people, such a good person, gah.

marshmeli

right, well glowsticks at shows didnt begin with phish, but i am pretty sure throwing them all at the same time to start a "war" did... if it didnt then it was popularized at a phish show... i think a show at UIC Pav, if my history is correct...

rincon

Glow sticks made their debut at the closing ceremony of the 1976 Montreal Olympics. I am not sure if they were sticks yet, but I know they were the strand type you wear like a necklace. Just a little trivia.

baconus66

I understand the argument here both ways but those glowsticks at Roo in 08 were pretty damn cool

Penny Lane

I love the way Jeff Tweedy handled it at the Central Park shows...
he kinda stopped...and said 'okay get it over with...watch my face!' and people threw them up on stage at one time and he stood there with this annoyed look on his face...but basically shamed the idiots with the glow sticks (at WILCO?)

bacon---i agree...fine at a huge outdoor night time show like bonnaroo
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

one of my favorite moments of a MMJ show was at Terminal 5 and a large group of peope threw glow sticks up for the swell in Gideon. LOVED it!
