I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Pastures of Plenty - Woody Guthrie

hard to believe that's the big "wall of sound" rock out finale but I look forward to being pleasantly surprised.

jaye

;D  it didn't sound quite like that.

The last song was pastures of plenty.

Will someone please please please record or film Pastures of Plenty tonight!!! It was so amazing we all need more than a memory!

Yes, please. That would be really awesome for those of us unable to attend.

Unforeseen BS may prevent me from making it in time to the Pour House tonight... if I don't make it I'll see you guys at the show! I have a feeling that I'll know where to find you...

Thoughts from Union Transfer...for pure musicianship this will easily end up on my best of '12 list. There was a very palpable a Jim bias at thebeginning of the show. Every time he stepped up to his mic a sea of smart phones were in the air. It reached its apex when the Deschanel-ites next to me gushed that Jim wrote revolutionary mind about girls like them... Lots oftalking too.  By the middle of the set though people settled down and it could only be because of the music. All of these guys were just incredible. Best tune of the night was a haunting rendition of Chorine with Johnson and Jim sharing vocals. Much like MoF I think Jim's best vocal contributions are the ethereal atmospherics he adds to songs like Chorine, Temezcal, and Map of the World. A nice bonus was The Way That He Sings with Farrar killing it on lead guitar. Also came awayvery impressed with Anders Parker, who I have to admit I was unfamiliar with before this album. He has a great voice and switched seamlessly between lead, rhythm, bass, and drums. Like I said, it was 4 great musicians doing their thing for 2 hours.
Say friend, you got any more of that good sasparilla?

Was at the NYC show last night...wow, just wow.  That was really, really awesome - far beyond expectations (I know, I know...but to be completely honest, I did go check this out on a 'flyer' as an MMJ fan and was going to see something MMJ related).  Didn't see a taper but if this show is ever available to purchase / DL / etc. I am all over it.

WOW! I have video of this amazingness from last night.  Now, if I could just conjure up some technical savvy, I will post it.

I echo WSS2's sentiments (where were you??).  We had our customary spot on the rail, and got to hear and see and FEEL the sounds.  Whoa.  It was my first time seeing Jay Farrar and Anders and they were just insanely good.  Insane.  Will Johnson is just a total dreamboat, and that voice of his makes me melt.  It was definitely higher energy than I had anticipated, and I distinctly recall feeling as if we were all going to take off in a rocket ship toward the end of Pastures of Plenty.

It was a treat to be with Penny, Headhunter, ericm, Brooke, and Tired Eyes, and also to meet someone who we hope will be joining the forum.  A lovely lad from Ireland (in NY for 14 yrs now) who has been seeing the band since they opened for the Doves in 01, and has been to all NYC shows since then - including all of T5 (even after his twin daughters were born on the Sunday before the shows started).  It was his first time on the rail, and to see his expressions throughout the show was just priceless.  Man, I love meeting fellow geeks.

Bobby Bare Jr. brought his unique style straight outta Nashville.  Totally enjoyed his set, and his self deprecating humor laced throughout the set was just priceless.  Man, he was funny, and the sounds were fantastic!

Best part of the night (aside from Jim's PERFECTLY GOLDEN HAIR - was there a halo? I swear I saw one), was Penny instructing the press dudes to take more photos of Jim and his locks.  Priceless!

Another magical night, will try to post the Vid (if anyone would like to give me pointers-ahem, JYac, I wouldn't mind at all)

Great show at Webster Hall last night.  Hung out on the rail with Penny, Eric, Trish,Brooke, Bill and Owen who I expect will be registering on the forum later today (hope you post the video of Wonderful that you took).  Saw lots of MMJ regulars at the show.
Pre-show hang out at the PourHouse was a blast as we had to restrain Penny Lane from running across the street to say hello to Steve Earle who walked by.  Of course we couldn't stop her from running out the door to say hello to Will Johnson pre-show and get her picture with him (Penny as we all know is so shy!   ::) )

The band was tight and although many seemed to be there for Jim, Jay Farrar was a star on guitar and vocals and Anders Parker & Will Johnson were both spectacular trading places on drums and guitar.  Both have great voices too and the foursome seemed like a teaming of equals.

Jim seemed to be having a very good time up there mostly playing bass (he is good) and spinning around like a whirling dervish at times. His hair got long!!  He looked very comfortable being in the background for most of the night as each in the foursome took turns on lead vocals.  He really seemed to have fun playing to the drummer at times whether or not it was Will or Anders on the drums.

See this band if you can as it is unlikely to be repeated.  Great sound and great energy.
The crowd really went nuts for Jim doing a solo on Wonderful and the whole group playing The Way That He Sings.  (thanks trish for the big hug on wonderful!)

Great night in a great venue with great friends for great music.  Dragging today but last night was special.
was some shakin' and some record playin'

Hey Hey - I was parked with one of my buddies leaning against the bar, corner closest to the exit and stage.  Had a good view, easy access to cold beer, and was able to rest the bones a little bit.

Echoing others comments, Bobby Bare Jr. was awesome, hilarious, and one of the best openers I have seen in the past couple years - great surprise there as well.

I unfortunately missed the rendezvous at the Pour House, but had an awesome time at the show. I got there midway through the opener and wished I had been there from the start. I thought Bobby Bare Jr was not only a great performer but funny as well!

I figured all the forum folks were on the rail on the Jim's side but I didn't have it in me to push all the way through to say hello (I have tall man's concert guilt  :-\ aka I hate blocking peoples' view). So I posted up about midway back on Jim's side.

Anyway, I didn't know what to expect going in but am really glad I went. It was great to see Jim bringing his trademark energy and kind of getting everybody fired up. Glad I took the chance to see them perform. A great Wednesday night!

NOW the reviews are starting to roll in.   Thank you!   I checked early this am before leaving for work and there was nothing.   I thought maybe everyone had been stunned into a dazed silence (I knew you were there- I saw pics!!)

Sounds like a great night.   I think it's awesome that everyone is going in with moderate expectations and being blown away.   It's a little harder for us in Boston, being last night and reading all these great things.

I was so excited to share my video, until I saw that it's mostly all sideways   :D  Baby Steps.  Just listen, don't watch -- you may get nauseous  ;D  Oh, and I also mislabeled it.  Awesome.  Coffee - NOW.

Did Bobby play that "I hate myself when I should be hating you" song? That song was awesome.

YES -- he was so awesome, and the little anecdotes with each song were so funny! I particularly enjoyed him talking about the ones we love the most and who are closest to us are the ones most likely to kill us.  CLASSIC stuff. We spoke to him for a bit after the show as well.  What a character!

haha that was great. Something along the lines of "Who here is with someone they love?", followed by enthusiastic response from the crowd, "good, because they are more likely to kill you than anybody else in the world!"
