Wasn't VIP at Bonnaroo just a set of bleachers?

Not just any set of bleachers ---  a worthless set of bleachers! Couldn't even hear half the acts from the bleachers on the Which Stage. The hill by the What Stage was decent though.

I have to say, to pay for an "on the rail" VIP experience seems very worth it to me. Kinda like GA West at MSG, no need to worry about camping out all afternoon to get close when you're guaranteed a sweet spot!

I e-mailed Forecastle for some clarification, so hopefully soon we'll have some answers as to where the "exceptional" VIP viewing area is located for this year.

way back it was bleachers then i think it was a hill (for the main stage)..it's changed over the years..

I know people have mentioned Louisville bands Wax Fang and VHS or Beta as possibilities, but I would be curious to know what other people think (just guesses, not looking for inside info) as to what other bands might be selected for a festival lineup that MMJ has a hand in selecting.  I have no insight whatsoever as to who some of their favorite contemporary artists are, and I was hoping some of you might know more than I.  Again, just looking for educated (or uneducated, even) guesses, as it's always fun to speculate...

Didn't Mtn. Jam have some sort of VIP last year? I don't know what the other perks were, but it looked like there was a section in the center between both stages that was VIP.

I know every fest is different, but it didn't look to me like the one at Mtn. Jam was that big of a deal. I didn't see a VIP pit, or any special close up section, but I might've just missed it.

I'm with Penny in hoping this one is a little more than just an opportunity for the rail.

Mountain Jam did have a VIP area that was the left side of the rail.   I actually thought it looked pretty convenient but things turned out fine for us anyway over on the right.   That said, if I knew that's how Forecastle worked, I'd consider it.

Forecastle teamed with Bonnaroo in the hopes of making this festival a pretty big deal. If they estimate they can bring in 40,000 to this fest, I'm thinking they will bring out some pretty decent headliners for Friday and Sunday. Call it wishful thinking, but a little Wilco would go a long way. Solid Sound had to get canceled for a reason, right?

Who would you guys love to see headline the other two nights?

I agree it worked out for all of you guys on the rail for the MMJ show without the VIP. It just looked to me that it wasn't just a rail all the way across VIP area, but one that stretched back up the Mountain even farther back than where the group of us were.

While it was in the center, it didn't look to me like you were assured of a spot up front, unless you staked a claim to your spot early. I never really checked it out thoroughly, so I could be wrong. It just appeared to be a pretty decent sized VIP that went more back, than across. Maybe they offered other perks that made up for not being assured of being up front.

Just speculating, but if that's how Forecastle is going to be, I'm probably going to pass.
If it ends up being a very small pit, like a photo pit with assured entry, then I'm in!

I would guess that you might see some of the folks that "they" have collaborated with, like M Ward or She and Him,  but I don't have any idea who MMJ likes in more pop, or festival related basis.

It would be nice if you could get a vip pass just for MMJ. I don't have to be on the rail for most shows, but for MMJ, it's nicer to be close. At bonnaroo, it's a waste of money to pay for VIP. More clarification would be nice. Penny, I'm sure you'll let us know if you hear back from the organizers.

It's absurd to have to pay $350 for a 3 day fest to get on the rail. That's my main issue.

e_wind

Wakarusa VIP is the same as Forecastle. It's like GA west at MSG, but way more shallow. So there are "two" rails. 100$ for a 3 day Fest is incredibly cheap, so I'm not even worrying about VIP. Plus the Roll Call email....

Also, as we all know, this is ACs first year with their hand in the festival, so who knows what's gonna happen!

Well, youre getting more than the prime spot. Also, isn't bonnaroo VIP almost 1000$? 350 seems like a steal to me. Hell it's almost 300$ for a roo regular ticket

I find that most festivals either make or break my expectations by who the second and third tier bands are instead of the headliners.

To answer your question though I's love to see WSP, Black Keys, ABB (not likely)

Damn.  Ten pages deep already?   :D

I'm pretty sure my wife and I will be making the trek down to the 'Ville for this fest.  I was on the fence last year about Mtn. Jam and I wish I would have taken the plunge for that.  It will be fun to finally meet up with so many forum peeps in the band's hometown!   8)

After an awesome time last year for the album release show at the Palace, I'm thinking this show could be even better!  Can't wait to see the lineup to see what other acts to look forward to seeing!

Yeah I'm really more interested in the non-headliners (none of the bands you mentioned would really do anything for me, besides Wilco), because I would think that's where MMJ would exert more of its influence on the lineup.  I guess my real question is what are some bands who count MMJ among their fans?  I was hoping people who more voraciously consume interviews and things like that might have some insight to that question that I lack.

It is? What other festival is 3 days and 350 dollars to get on the rail?

I understand VIP packages are normally more expensive, but I'm not concerned with other perks, such as an air conditioned lounge. I just want to pay a reasonable price for a ticket and have the ability to be on the rail for MMJ and others.

Oooof, I couldn't disagree with that more.  I like showers and not sitting in line on the highway for eight hours.   ;D

My buddy is a festie vet and has done VIP at Forecastle every year they've offered it - he doesn't pay for it, but says it's pretty great as VIPs go - drinks included, viewing areas are nice.  I can ask him more specific questions if you guys want, but who knows if it'll be the same this year with Superfly's involvement.

AGREED. Wait, it's 350$ per VIP ticket? (or for 2)

and Bonnaroo--the ONLY way to survive and have a decent experience is to do VIP (Unless you're 22)..I won't go on a tangent--but no act in the world could get me back to Bonnaroo---ever...

Well, if you camp at bonnaroo, VIP may have its benefits. I think with driving in daily, the longest I've ever sat in line is 45min. I just don't think the seating is anything to write home about. $100.00 dollars for this festival isn't bad, but if you don't have a chance for the rail, it may be better to invest in the VIP. I'm going to go ahead and get a general admission ticket, and then see what they offer for the roll call upgrades.
