i don't think i'll shell out for this..if the hotel's only a few blocks away and i'll wanna be down in the pit for most of Sat, it won't be worth the $ for me.

I did VIP two years ago and it was definitely worth it.  A tent to escape from the heat.  Free massages.  A place in the pit to see the show. And plenty of VIPS to hobknob with.  If you can afford it, go for it.
