I'm a little surprised more people haven't mentioned Z.  That definitely qualifies as a perfect album in my book.  Others that come to mind:

I think with PJ Harvey, you could make a case for any of Rid of Me, To Bring You My Love, and Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea being perfect 10s.  It's just a matter of which one speaks to you the most.

R.E.M. always had a knack of ending their albums with the perfect song. Electrolite is another that comes to mind.

I agree that Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville should be on the list as well.

Also makes me think, Liz Phair has had about the most dissapointing career arc of any artist I can think of.

Saying evil urges has more of an "album factor" than anything makes me question if you even know what that means. Sorry, I actually love eu, but it might be the most all over the place album I've ever heard in my life, by anyone.

Exactly right, and so well said.  I will say I would put the first 3 mmj records as 10's.  Z - was a great record but it was also their first fork in the road leading to what they are now.  I still love the band, and Jim, but I just can't say with all my heart that I'm loving the direction they've taken on the last two albums. 

At Dawn was a sprawling masterpiece, EU was a sprawling mess.  Circuital was a perfect ALBUM, I'm just not convinced that it was slaved over.....the first three records sound like they were Slaved over, like they were just ingrained in Jim's soul.  Circuital sounds like it was somewhat produced.  Of course I've also had many great times with Circuital and Evil Urges....drumming on a ceiling fan to "Evil Urges".....Singing at the top of my lungs to "outta my system", Losing My Mind To "Highly Suspicious" etc. etc.

Jim is the best producer the bands ever had.

Slow, Slow and Movin Away are two of my favorite songs they've written, so I'm still really looking forward to the next chapter.  :-*

I just hope Jim takes over the production again.....also can't wait for the solo album.
