Devil Ledbetter

So many great albums in this thread! Here's my list of perfect 10 albums, old and new.

After the Gold Rush - Neil Young
At Dawn - MMJ
Benaroya Hall - Pearl Jam
Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
Days of Future Past - The Moody Blues
Down II - Down
Directions to See a Ghost - The Black Angels
Friend and Foe - Menomena
Head on the Door - The Cure
Houses of the Holy - Led Zeppelin
It Still Moves - MMJ
Joe's Garage - Frank Zappa
Meddle - Pink Floyd
Okonokos - MMJ
The Satanic Satanist - Portugal. The Man
Us - Peter Gabriel
Yield - Pearl Jam
Z - MMJ
Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie

We understand it's the '90s.

bowl of soup

Ok, I'll play.

Doolittle - Pixies
Blackberry Belle - Twilight Singers (I mean listen to it.  It's like super-perfect. It's a concept-album without clobbering you over the head that it's a concept album)
Gentlemen - Afghan Whigs
It's a Shame About Ray - Lemonheads
Copper Blue - Sugar (Beaster should be included with Copper Blue; an album-length EP recorded at the same time)
Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkins
Nevermind - Nirvana (Not like it's my favorite thing of all time, but really? I hated it when it came out, not because it wasn't great, but because it blew up my friend's little clubs.  Watch that VH1 Classic Albums thing about it and deny the greatness.  It also changed music in a more profound way than anything since the Beatles or Elvis).
Z
I'm not saying it's easy...walking into sweet oblivion.

love this...ha ha

Did I write that?   ::)   Wow, I had fun that night.

Soup, glad to see another fan of It's A Shame About Ray.    Classic.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

TN FIRE - Saw God
At Dawn - Felt God
It Still Moves - Touched God

Yes, that is awesome.  I would add to these descriptions:

Evil Urges - Shagged God in the backseat of a Camero

Circuital- God said he'd meet me at Applebee's but never showed up

Whippy and Tracy, you have both just summarized one of my high school dating experiences. Camaros are not roomy, mind you. Also, God didn't quite live up to the hype.

So, the only one we haven't yet covered then is Z, so here goes:

Z - Took acid with God
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

And did you hit the LH show at Old Rock House? If not, you missed a good show.

Northern Neighbour

I think Radiohead has had 3 perfect 10 albums - OK Computer, Kid A, and In Rainbows.

TV on the Radio - Dear, Science

U2 - Joshua Tree, Actung Baby

Michael Jackson - Thriller

The National - High Violet

Pearl Jam - Vs.

Prince - Purple Rain

Black Mountain - In Future

DBT - Southern Rock Opera

MMJ - Z

And great call on Bowie, Ledbetter.

mjk73

I would argue that "Took acid with God" is more suited to Chocolate & Ice. But I get the "God blew up my voicemail," Jeeeeeeeeyum.

(For some stupid reason, when I hit who knows what button on my keyboard, suddenly the italics turn on, and that stupid button WILL NOT turn off. I hate it when that happens.)

ManNamedTruth

The Kinks  - Something Else, Village Green, Lola
Velvet Underground - Loaded
Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
Iron & Wine - The Shepherd's Dog
Built To Spill - Keep It Like a Secret, Perfect From Now On
Neko Case - Blacklisted, Fox Confessor
Mos Def - Black on Both Sides
Outkast - Stankonia
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Z - God gave us Don Dante, then he whipped out some black leather whip straps and went to town on Jim's ass while he played the solo to lay Low.....then after that, instead of feeling guilty and calling it a day, he did some acid and cranked out "Into The Woods"

At lest two people claim that "consolers of the lonely" is a ten?  Uh, "Broken Boy Soldier" is a far superior album.  I don't get it.

I'm just glad none of the DBT fans have called anything after Decoration Day a ten.

"Nevermind" is a masterpiece but the production just doesn't do it any justice.   I listen to "In Utero" and can't help but get sad about what could have been.  At least Brendan O'Brien was able to fix TEN.  I mean, I love TEN, but the only thing holding it back was the glossy production.  Same with Nevermind....it was just that time period I guess.  The two greatest albums of the 90's were nearly ruined by their production.

For me, Z is clearly the most brilliant and perfect as an album but if somebody gave me truth serum, I'd probably admit that At Dawn is my favorite (Honest Man holds it back from being the '10' - ha) and if I got marooned on a desert island and could only take one, it would have to be Okonokos...   ???

Anyway, I'd try to sneak these onto the island too...

AIC, Dirt
Jane's Addiction, Ritual De Lo Habitual
The Pink Mountaintops, Outside Love
The Verve, A Northern Soul
The Black Angels, Passover

soft and warm all the time make you want it over and over

I wouldn't call Consolers of the Lonely a perfect 10 as I think it is a bit inconsistent, but to me the high points of CotL way surpass anything on Broken Boy Soldier.  Both great albums, though.
