wooo, Saturday night was great! I was at WorkPlay in Birmingham watching Justin Townes Earle w/ Tift Merritt. Just as JTE's show had ended, people started funneling out of the performance hall and into the WorkPlay lobby. The Oregon/Stanford game was on every TV and people were frozen in their spots, with eyes glued to the TV screen. It was just a moment later that Stanford kicked the game-winning FG and the entire lobby went apeshit. I had an Auburn fan scramble by me and take off to the bathroom yelling something about how Alabama sucks because we didn't go undefeated for the second year in a row but still control our own destiny. The token Auburn fan kind of made the whole spur of the moment celebration all the more enjoyable though.

Anyway, Matt Barkley is out this week for the game against Notre Dame. I'm not saying ND is a shoe-in for the title game now, but that helps them out a whole lot.

I definitely respect Georgia this year, and expect a hell of a game in ATL here in a couple of weeks. But for now, I just want to see Alabama beat the Chizik out of Auburn on Saturday.

HAHA...I WAS RIGHT THERE WITH YOU...SOMEWHERE IN ALL THAT MADNESS...great show too by the way

it feels so nice to be back in...roll freaking tide. football fans in other regions of the country really need to pick up the new ESPN magazine...they did a great job with the last half of the magazine with various articles about the week leading up to the BAMA - LSU game, the game itself, and then some fallout afterwards...also a really good article about the "teabagging incident at the krystal on bourbon street after the BCS championship game and how those two guys lives have dramatically changed since then...really good read for any college football fan and especially for those that think we are absolutely apeshit crazy about our football down here in the south

Feed Moncrief! You seen the Ole Miss sophomore Donte Moncrief? He's a hair slower than Mike Wallace (4.33 v 4.45) but he's only going to get better. His highlight reel from Saturday night starts around the 1:46 mark (and he starts out the game at the 8 second mark):

Did Miss St. D Coordinator make sure on each play that the safety play shallow and corner play outside on the post/skinny post.  I have no idea how you get beat on the same play over and over again.  I guess the last one wasn't Moncrief and was a square in but still....

how about my Tulane Greenwave moving to the Big East?  AQ conference baby, see you in the Orange Bowl (in 20 years maybe)!

Let's see, the Big Least loses Rutgers and gains Tulane?  Can that conference become more irrelavent?     Sorry IBFJ...

when Tulane is leaving your conference, what does that say about C-USA?

I don't have any interest in C-USA as a conference but I can't say it was anything special with or without Tulane.

Hmm speaking of conferences, #2 vs #3 this weekend for the SEC Championship! What's everyone's picks?

There's been quite a bit #1 vs #2, top 5 and top 10 matchups in the last several years for the SEC. Some regular season, some conference title game. I'm willing to bet they've had more top inner-conference  matchups than all the others combined.

To salute the last year of the BCS, next year should have the SEC as an automatic qualifer for the national title game and have other teams battle it out for the second spot

I hope the dawgs can do it! bama will be tough to beat, but we have a defense that is starting to play like they should...its all going to come down to whether or not aaron murray has a good game...I just dont want UGA to get embarrassed.  Oh and I do want to be in Miami in January!

I'm not sure who to go for in this game. Alabama and Georgia are the SEC teams that I don't really care for, but I had the cheer on Alabama earlier as they were the best team to send from the conference if either Oregon or Kansas St. made it to the national title game. I'm leaning towards cheering for Georgia as I wouldn't have to hear "Roll Tide" all of next year.

It'll be close. I got Alabama-27 Georgia-21

Win-win situation really. It's the SEC either way! My early predictions have it Alabama-38 Notre Dame-13. I do hope Manti Te'o gets Heisman though. The guy deserves it!

I actually hope Te'o does get the Heisman, no other play has really earned it so give it to the best defensive player imo.

I think it will be Bama, but it'll be around 10 pts imo, unless they are able to gash ND like they did GA tonight on the ground.

UGA's defense isn't nearly as good as ND's so I don't think you will see Bama putting up the rushing numbers they did on UGA.  That said, I also don't think ND will have the success offensively that UGA had on Bama's defense.  I think this one will be lower scoring and closer than many (ESECPN) who are already predicting the NC game won't live up to the hype of the SEC Championship.

Close game or not, I don't see Bama losing; in fact, I could see it getting ugly early. I think experience will play a key factor. Brian Kelly talks ND getting everyone's "best" each Saturday and they understand pressure? Well, so does Bama. It's just the pressure ND will feel in Miami will be different than the pressure they felt against Purdue, who they beat in South Bend by 3 (that's 6-6 Purdue) or BYU, who they beat in South Bend by 3 (that's 7-5 BYU) or Pitt, who they beat in South Bend by 3 in OT (that's 6-6 Pitt). Saban and the boys have 5 weeks to prepare for the game and they have been here before (like, last year and 2 years before that!). As much as I dislike Alabama and was rooting for UGA yesterday, we all know football is best in the South and that's where the BCS title will live for the 7th consecutive year.

Couldn't have said it much better myself!

As for the score, yes Notre Dame has a good defense, but let's be honest, Boston College, Pittsburgh and BYU are no Alabama. Their running game will stomp through the Notre Dame defense. If the Irish had some crazy offense like Oregon then maybe they'd have a shot since Alabama's secondary has looked terrible in big games. I think they'll be just fine though. If anyone watched the SEC Championship, regardless of what conference you root for, you have to admit that was the best game of the year. Notre Dame/Pittsburgh is the only other one that would give it competition.

If anything, ESPN is anti-SEC. They're always praising USC who is terribly overrated year after year. They think its against the law to rank them outside the top five. Ohio State also falls into that same category.

I know plenty of OSU fans that would beg to differ about that.  Although, I will say since they hired former ESPN anylist and former SEC coach Urb Meyer, they are getting more love from ESPN...

Also, I hate ND as much as anyone, but it's nice that you point out all of their close calls vs. the not-so-good teams but fail to point out their quality wins.  They did shut down a good Stanford team who can run the football and who also happened to beat Oregon?  They also punked OU down in Norman where the Sooners don't lose too often.  Remember how everyone was predicting an OU rout in that game?

I'm not saying ND will win, but I just wouldn't be surprised to see if they somehow made a game of it and maybe, just maybe pulled off the improbable upset...

I ain't drinking the Kool aid, sorry. Beating .500 teams at home by 3 and in OT is not the stuff of national powerhouses; at least not in the SEC.

  ESPN is pro money.  What is up with the SEC complex man?  ESPN hypes the shit out of the SEC because that is where all the top teams and top matchups are right now and that's where they are getting ratings.  That doesn't change the fact that they want storied franchises that either come from large media markets or have huge national followings to be successful such as USC, Notre Dame, OSU and Michigan because they'll make even more money.

Two teams I don't like.  I'll be rooting for Notre Dame but I don't see them beating Bama unless their D and special teams score points or set up short fields consistently.

Just wanted to say sorry to davymac.  I was pulling hard for you guys and what a great game it was.  Great season Georgia.

Notre Dame did have some good wins. I would have never thought they'd go the entire season undefeated though. If it were them vs Ohio State or maybe some team from the Big 12, Pac-12 then I'd cheer for the Irish to win, but growing up in the South, you almost have to root on the southern team.

Speaking of Urban Meyer, I think he's a piece of trash how he quit Florida. He made it sound like he was retiring from coaching because he was dying and wanted to spend his last few months on Earth with his family. Out of nowhere, he's never been in better health and takes on the Ohio State job. Those are some Nick Saban/Miami Dolphins tactics, maybe worse.

As I had previously stated, I really hope Manti Te'o takes the Heisman this Saturday. I think he's the player most crucial to his respective team's success and I like how he goes out of his way to learn the names of the third and fourth string players to make them feel like they're a part of the team. Also, the unfortunate losses he had to deal with is pretty rough. I honestly hope he wins the award.

Thanks Ruckus!  I wanted it bad, but I'm glad it was a good game...honestly one of the best college football games I've watched this season.

Also, I want Manti Te'o to win the Heisman too.
