This should be a lively debate.....

My personal fav's so far are Neko Case and Band of Horses - mostly because they are good bands and interesting to sit in with Jacket.

Worst has to be Shabazz - I seriously thought it was a joke in Brooklyn.  Do they even qualify as a "band"???

And here's a question:  who would our ideal opener be??
What's in here won't disappear

WORST   Kings of Leon !!!   BAM

BEST   Trampled by Turtles  ( because it's the bestest most recent I've seen )

Ideal   Led Zeppelin

i did enjoy shabazz palaces but i thought it was an odd choice as an opener. cheers to them for playing to an audience that normally wouldn't hear their music.

when did KOL open for MMJ?

if i had to a choose a best it would probably be everybody who played on saturday at newport this year but that prob doesnt qualify as an opener.

Best Dr Dog and even though they didn't take the stage right before Jacket, North Mississippi AllStars, AND Trombone Shorty.

Worst - I'm not going to go down that road

Band of Horses was very nice...MSG 2011

...with that stated...all opening bands suck...they make us wait for MMJ...;)

I loved Everest as an opener...they were my favorite.

I (and I know this is controversial) did not enjoy Shabazz Palaces at all.  I tried very hard to keep an open mind, and not seem like a middle age suburbanite....but I found their sound to be completely assaultive.  Not my thing..

Grace Potter and BOH so far have been my favorites.

The best opener was on the Evil Urges tour...no opener.  An evening with My Morning Jacket.

I've only seen them headline four times, but I've never loved any of their openers. BoH are pretty good (though I don't listen to them recreationally) but I do *not* want to see them again. And the Z T5 show may be the biggest disparity in quality between opener and headliner I've ever seen.

That being said, I believe PHJB and them is a match made in heaven. <3<3<3

For all the anit-BoH sentiment, they rocked on Letterman last night.

I'd see BOH over any of the T5 openers, I think. I don't really remember the T5 openers. But I do remember BOH.   :bath:

I really got into Everest after they opened T5 #5.  I was bummed I missed them at Forecastle, to beat to make it.  They'll be opening for Neil Young in November in Boston.

That's probably the truest statement I've read today.

I've only seen four opening bands, so here goes:

1) Trombone Shorty
2) Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings
3) Band of Horses
4) Shabazz Palaces

Note: I did not hate Shabazz Palaces like many others did, and like I thought I would.  It was actually kind of cool background music.  I didn't have a problem with them at all, and I thought I was going to be really sour on them.

Dream opener:
Deer Tick
White Denim
Trombone Shorty again
anything + reverb always = better

PHJB, and Grace Potter have been my faves, and Everest is up there too.

Not gonna touch the worst one.

Now THAT show at the Greek was 3+ hours!  Here's to no openers!

Best - The New Pornographers, even the fans in upstate NY weren't that into them.
