Quote"Members of My Morning Jacket, Blonde Redhead, Yuck, Javelin, Against Me! and others will participate in the third-annual Brooklyn Rock Lottery. The collaborative show will take place at Brooklyn's Knitting Factory on Saturday, December 1. Members of Nicholas Jaar, Hospitality and others will also participate.

The Rock Lottery began in Denton, TX in 1997 (and in Seattle in 2006). The show's schedule goes like this: A mix of 25 hand-selected musicians will meet at 10 AM, where they are organized into five groups through a lottery-based selection. These groups are then released to collaborate and practice at different locations, with 12 hours to choose a band name and write three to five songs (with a one cover-song limit). The groups will then perform the material as a band in front of a live audience on the very same night."

Tom Blankenship (My Morning Jacket)
Craig Pfunder (VHS or Beta)

Brian Betancourt (Hospitality)
Dave Harrington (Nicholas Jaar)
Chris Puidokas (Blonde Redhead / The Silent Years)
Johnny Rogoff (YUCK)

This is awesome! I shot a documentary on a Toronto Rock Lottery a few years ago, and the whole day was such a crazy fun adventure.

I urge anyone within traveling distance to make it out to this show! These are once-in-a-lifetime collaborations!

This is a great concept that has potential to produce some really strange cool results as far as collaborations and songs go. Anybody have info on how the last two rock lotteries went? Like who was involved, what songs did they write, etc?

"First up for the night was Jazz Karate, which featured Kenny Bernard (Ra Ra Riot), Franz Nicolay (ex Hold Steady / Against Me!), Pamela Martinez (Teletextile), Matt Singer, and Tom Blankenship (My Morning Jacket). With a harp and an accordion onstage, their music veered towards gypsy jazz and included a song about Tony Danza."

Groovy.  Great bass!
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.
