I was just going to write In Memory of Elizabeth Reed 5x, as nothing really comes close for me when I think of rock instrumentals, but I decided to think about it a bit more.

1. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed - Allman Bros. Band
2. Jessica - Allman Bros. Band
3. Moby Dick - Led Zeppelin
4. Rush - YYZ
5. Frankenstein - Edgar Winter

Obviously I excluded all the great 'surf' instrumentals from the 50s/60s, and newer electronic music, and jazz.  These are my favorite ROCK instruments.

Oh, and I like Tracy, also would include One of These Days, if it weren't for those 13 words.

Anything off of Vision Creation Newsun by The Boredoms.

It's really meant to be listened to from start to finish. THe tracks blend into one another as if the album is one song with multiple movements. Brilliant!  The entire album is virtually lyric free and where there are a couple lyrics, it's a phrase that is repeated over and over and used texturally, like another instrument track.

I almost put One of These Days on my list, but it didn't quite cut it.  I still consider it instrumental material, it is more like an ambient voice rather than actual singing, but I see the argument.
