Night 3

There will be bigotry, and there will be open minds
There will be days of peace, I hope you have the time

As long as you keep a straight face....

I Will Be There When You Die

I laugh at that Elvis thank you too. I love the opening of Masterplan. I keep finding things on these recordings that I love. I'll spend a some time with each night. On night 1 there are several moments. Heartbreakin' Man, The jam after Outta My System, Octoplasm. There are more, but I'll let someone else get to discuss them. Even hearing certain people scream out from the crowd. I feel like I hear Danz several times, but I was right behind him and I don't remember him ever screaming all of that. Maybe blue sky can confirm since we don't see much of Danz on here anymore.

I like Jim's "That's Mr. Tom Blakenship everybody" shout out during the part of Honest Man that is mostly bass.  Seeing Tom's reaction to that at the time was hilarious, as he seems to really hate being in the spotlight.  Hearing that on the recording brings that moment back.

I also love hearing Jim sliding his finger up and down one of the lower guitar strings during the later verse of "I Will Sing You Songs" (raunchy comment from Fully coming in 3, 2, 1).
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

Love the IMMEDIACY with which they take the stage on night one and go right into Heartbreakin' Man full force.

Love Jim's vocals on night one -- not that I don't love his vocals always, but you can tell that some time off did a lot of good for his vocal cords, as his pipes come out swinging for the fences.

Love the excited guy in the crowd just as Off the Record is starting on night one -- "fuckin' eh! Not stoppin', not stoppin'!"

Love the precise way in which they go right into the funk jam before the final line of Evelyn.

Love the guy in the crowd calling for Tyrone during the opening drums to a tremendously emotional version of Thank You Too.

LOVE the mini-riff jam before O Is The One That Is Real, and absolutely ADORE how prominent Bo's keys are during this song. Really takes it to a new level.

Love the pinch harmonics Carl is rippin' during "Lay Low". Maybe I haven't heard enough live versions of this song, but I've never heard him get those harmonics ringin' like he does during PC3. What an axeman.

Most of all, I love that we are all able to get our hands on these pristine recordings so quickly after the shows took place. We are very spoiled!

Good prediction, Whippy. Watching Jim sing IWSYS is probably the closest any of us will ever get to watching Jim f@ck. He makes love to that song when he performs it.The voyeur in me loves it. The MMJ fan goes nuts; I don't think I need to say how the woman in me feels about it.

I'd like someone to point out a show in the past 3 years with a more interesting opening setlist than PC 1:

HEARTBREAKIN' MAN
XMAS CURTAIN
OUTTA MY SYSTEM
EVELYN
OCTOPLASMIC JAM

I don't think there is one, but....

I'm here Fully!  I couldn't tell you if I was screaming on not - during shows like that I spiritually black out.  But maybe those recording devices were able to pick up the sounds my body was making in reaction to the experience that just couldn't be heard by the mortal ear.  Or something like that.  I'll have another listen.

I really like the lyric change in Sooner:

For all your days I wish you protection
From all the evil in the world

Heartfelt and powerful

I went through a bunch just for fun and I stand by my comment.   Second place goes to Red Rocks night 1 this year.

Good Danz! We need you around here! I like that lyric change too. It sounds so loving and makes me feel peaceful.

Here are a few...

Jam at the end of Touch Me 2;

How they dropped into Thank You Too;

Horns on Victory Dance (love the intro!)

Good call on the guy getting all excited as they go into Off the Record. Cracks me up every time...

The segue from War Begun into IWSYS is flawless and amazing

Jam at the end of Pt. 2 was great!  Very Cool Closer

Exatly like Mr. Whippy.....The shout out to Tom and his reaction was what came to mind when I saw this topic.

Touch Me Part 2, Easy Morning Rebel, intro to Lowdown,  and a few other intros and trying to figure out what song it was leading to.

The excess crowd noise is bothersome.  Anyone else wish it was minimized?  The chatter distracts and is annoying during quieter parts of songs or entire quieter songs, like Sooner.  I don't mind the guy yelling out for Tyrone.  It's just the din of tons of jumbled voices that you can't understand that irk me.

Yeah, I really need to hear that message in today's world of greed, brutal injustice and a general widespread lack of integrity.  Lately its hard just getting through the day sometimes. Thanks, Jim!

You read my mind, Kyle.  When I saw your original question, the immediate thing that came to me was the opening five-pack of Red Rocks night 1:

Rollin' Back
The Way That He Sings
Heartbreakin' Man
The Dark
Lowdown

I remember at some point during that run of songs, Crispy taps me and Haldon on the shoulders and says "Are you guys freaking out?  Because I'm freaking out over here."
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

Yes, I also wish it was minimized and I feel a little annoyed by it when listening.  Reminds me of how frustrating concerts can be in that is seems impossible for a crowd at a rock show to achieve silence, even for a minute.  Almost any real quiet part of the music or brief pause in the music and someone has to yell something.
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

I feel the same.  I'd prefer SBD recordings or at least a matrix mix of SBD/AUD.  In a venue that size, probably all the instruments are coming through the board, so you'd think it'd sound good.  Or even better, they could do a separate mix for the recording.  I know, I know, picky Jacket heads!
