There is only one good answer here....

THE BEAR!!!!

I don't know why it hasn't happened yet
There's Still Time.........

Not sure if they have opened with these, but they would make for an interesting set:

Strangulation
Phone Went West
Xmas Curtain
Lay Low
Can You See The Hard Helmet
Touch Pt. 2
Dancefloors
I wonder why we listen to poets when nobody gives a fuck

Phone Went West would be nice...I think they have opened with Xmas, if they haven't they should.  I really like the idea of PWW though.
There's Still Time.........

Sheets Of Clay

I know they opened with Lay Low in Atlanta last year, it seems like there were a few shows back in 08 that opened with Touch Me Pt. 2.

TheThird

They've opened with this before I think but OBH would be a killer way to start a show. Especially a NYE-party type atmosphere, and it'd open up a spot for a different closer.

I've seen OBH open a few shows and it just doesn't do it for me.  I just feel like they need to lube up before they blow that load.

I didn't get to see it but I think they did at the kfc fun center to open, with the white curtain dropping?  that was probably cool?

I think they should close with OBH and RAISE the white curtain during the ending jam....like some giant kleenex.  Like a "dream catcher"  ya know?

For some reason I feel like they have opened with Lay Low, but I could be off.  But I think so??  No?
anything + reverb always = better

EverythingChanges

They have opened with Lay Low this past year, I must have over looked it.

I really think the heavy opening of Strangulation would be amazing, and it would guarantee an interesting set full of rarities!

Everything Changes you've lost all street cred. :)

They've opened with Xmas at least once- The Mann, Philly, last summer. Great show, great opener.
6/3/06, 10/22/10, 6/7/11 12/14, 7/28/12 8/17 12/27 12/28, 7/26/13 10/12, 7/31/15 11/27, 4/29/16

If you open with Strangulation there is just no where to go after that.  It's one of my favorite songs but I don't see at as an opener.  It would be like opening with Don Dante..ya know?

Not trying to diminish your street cred anymore ....you are one of my favorites here.

they opened with lay low at the randolph street festival in chicago in 2005.. and although the audio quality of the recording is bad.. it's one of the most intense live versions of that song i've ever heard.. i used to laugh at the banter from jim about the soundcheck at the end of the opener..

i think "at dawn" has got to be the opener of choice for me..

At Dawn - My Morning Jacket (Terminal 5)

I know it is unconventional, but hear me out.  I am sure it will never happen and it makes for a pretty downer/ mind fuck set, but I'd love to see it!  I think the opening riff is powerful enough to grab the audience as an opener.

Picture this: You are on the rail deep within some hidden forest.  There is a certain foggy mist hovering over the stage as the sun sets.  Out comes My Morning Jacket and so begins Strangulation and a deeply moving set.

Strangulation
Run Thru
O is the One
I Think I Am Going To Hell
Smokin From Shootin
Touch Pt. 2
Movin Away
I Will Sing You Songs
They Ran
Rocket Man
The Bear
Steam Engine (drum solo -->)
Can You See The Hard Helmet
By My Car
War Begun
Carried Away
Slow Slow
Into the Woods
Knot Comes Loose
How Could I Know
Phone Went West

----------

At Dawn
Rollin Back
Just One Thing
Wonderful
Xmas Curtain
Mahgeetah

I would like to see Cobra open a show.

Yes, the full 20+ minute version!

Go into Dondante and the crowd would only hear two songs in the first 45 minutes .
10: T5 (At Dawn, Z, Evil Urges) 11: VA, MSG, 2012: BK, Cap Theater 1-2 15: GovBall, XPN, Beacon 2+3

That sounds great to me! I also wouldn't mind a short Cobra into Run Thru to start a show. That would get people moving right away!
