Another Roll Call Complaint

I am not usually one to complain, but there is something ridiculous going on with tickets to the Chicago show. I was able to grab 2 seats during the presale for $34.95 each, then the only options for receiving the tickets was to have them shipped for either $7 or $10. My order cost me a total of $82 for the tickets and then shipping. Then this morning, Feb 2, I tried to see if there were any more general admission tickets available -- there were for $29 each and there was the option to print them at home for free! I could have saved over $20 by not being a member of the fan club on top of the $30 or so I spend to join the stupid club!!
An explanation please!

Let me recommend that you contact ground(ctrl) directly if you expect a response.  This is a fan forum, not customer service.

That said, I looked into the difference I would have faced, had I purchased my ticket for Jim's show in Boston using Ticketmaster instead of the Roll Call presale...

Roll Call presale (will call): $32.23 total
Ticketmaster (print-at-home): $34.05 total

Seems to me the variables that are affecting folks vary from venue to venue and perhaps with who is handling general ticket sales.  In the past, feedback suggests some Roll Call presales cost less, though you have the risk associated with will call, if it turns out you can't go and try to transfer the tix.  Other folks find they've paid more.

Bottom line is you got tix three days ahead of the general public and the show is sold out just hours after the public on sale, so if you love MMJ and Jim James enough, the $20 difference might be worth it.  If not, don't renew your Roll Call membership.
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

I got tickets to the VIC via their website and I think they were $29 each, but with charges they were about $38 for everything

Fully

Different venues but my roll call tickets were $31 and change to Nashville and my tickets -non roll call to Louisville were $42 about ten dollars more than the tickets. They are mailing me a hard ticket though ;) If I can't go, I'll be able to sell it.

Looks like we got off cheap for the Philly Union Transfer show. I don't know what Roll Callers paid through the presale because I missed it, but my tix through Ticketfly were $26.00 + $1.00 processing, and $6.95 service fee. Total of $33.95!  No charge to mail the hard ticket either.

Gotta agree with Yac that  different venues, and ticket handlers  are affecting some folks more than others.
"Where's Jim going?"

Rizzos Girl

My Denver tickets through roll call were way cheaper than the 2 I bought today. I think the svc fee through the venue was 9.95 a ticket + 5 to mail them. 83 total for 2.

I think you have a valid complaint, and since so many roll call members post here, it is relevant information. If you can't vent about an issue where people actually know about that issue, where can you vent?

The complaint is valid.  Vent all you want.  BUT, if you want an answer to your concerns, contact ground(ctrl) support.  "An explanation please!" sounds like they want a reply, and ground(ctrl) doesn't monitor this forum much.  Just trying to be helpful, not stiffle commentary.

I too, got hit with the charge for shipping and was a bit perplexed by no will call pickup or print at home option during Roll Call Sale. I have purchased many tix from Vic Venue and never had this issue before.

At the end of the day, my number one concern is always just getting tickets to see MMJ/Jim James/Carl, so I don't really care about the extra $20 on the two tickets. I have friends that missed out on the general public sale. I'm sure they wish they were Roll Call members and would have had a chance at early tickets.

that does seem wrong...wow..i guess we're paying for access not affordability or transferrability (another thing they need to work on)

Webster Hall tix were 42$ + 8.25 Shipping..

Find it strange that will call was not an option for Chicago... The Philly Roll Call tix were $31.10 and will call only, so we saved a few dollars.  Fanclub tickets should be the same or less than the general public sale prices.  We are already paying for the opportunity to buy the tix early, do we need to pay more during the onsale as well?
Pretty please with peanut butter pudding surprise on top??

walterfredo

until Roll Call does something about making the tickets transferable, I will not be buying tix through roll call, so I guess what's the point of me even renewing my membership?  I seriously doubt they'll do a damn thing about it because they haven't really done much at all.  It would be very easy to at least make them transferable to another roll call member.  Why can't we do this Wade(ctrl)?  I travel a lot for work and never know if I'll be able to attend a show that is several months out.  Had some good friends that bought tix for NYE that wound up eating them because they couldn't make the show.  Totally lame-o.  Fans paying $$ to join a club shouldn't be getting screwed over like that.

/end rant.

e_wind

Totally agree Walter. Thats the biggest issue for Roll Call right now.

Other questions:
1. will seniority ever be a thing?
2. why do you allow people to reap the benefits of Roll Call when they sign up after an annoucement?

If neither of those things change, I have to reason to renew until I'm sure I can get benefits from it. Like, people being able to signup for roll call after the announcement of the Nashville show, and then enter the contest is ludicrous. it really screws over those of us who blindly give you our money.
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

Kinda hear what your saying, but those announcements get people to sign up.
If people don't sign up then we don't have a fan club anymore.
If you remember back two years ago there was an "announcement" that sparked us to sign up.
Fact is, the band is getting bigger and events are gonna be harder to get into.
Valentines day, Storytellers, Nashville, rare rare events,  when they happen you never know if they will happen again.  That makes it hurt even more.

Y'all got any disco ball back there?

Kory

Yep Rusty, no more rud shows unless you're in the super know and can camp for tickets i'd bet.

There should be benefits to being in the fanclub.  Joining after the fact of an announcement takes that benefit away, especially since seniority does not factor in here yet.  Fans will see the advance tickets or fanclub members only invites and will join so they are not left out in the future, if it is that important to them.  Pearl Jam does it right, they make and announcement and only the members as of a certain date prior to announcement are eligible.  Keeping the door open for new members also allows scalpers the opportunity to cash in on special opportunities, make them keep paying dues as well.

jeff,

PJ in my opinion is a bad example, they are so huge that their fan club is probably profitable, so they can afford to have rules like that.  I don't think MMJ is there yet with Roll Call.  Don't get me wrong I would love to have seniority mean something someday.  A two year old Roll Call is still growing,  they should do whatever it takes to make it grow.  That's how it will sustain into the future.

Nashville and Storytellers were not scalper friendly.  Valentines day was and it was ridiculous what those tickets were going for, long time ago though.  Pre-sale tickets were limited to two for louisville, not sure of the others.  So that keeps scalpers away somewhat.

We are in an age of the internet and high speed connections, tickets are hard to get nowadays regardless of the event.  No way around it.  Standing in line at a ticket master dealer are long gone.

Do you really think there are no benefits to Roll Call?

I only used mine once last year for forecastle, and between sound check, festival and Belle of Louisville, it was more than worth it.  Not to mention free tshirt and poster.

Year before last used my roll call six times, saved 30 dollars on the Indy show alone.
