I figured out one big holiday out by ear but nothing else really.....

i hope someone cracks down and give some tabs popping out here...hahaha....

tomEisenbraun

you just might see tab for "I Will Sing You Songs" and "If All Else Fails" sometime soon. I've been playin i wills ing you songs for a while, it's pretty simple. And IF aLL else Fails is simply a matter of me sitting down and learning more than just the intro, which is quite easy if you play with a G chord and just move the root around. It may or may not be capo'd. Once again, I need to listen. I just got the TN Fire yesterday, but the song sounds pretty easy.

By the way, on Golden - Jim has tuned to open E minor by changing the A and D strings.

On I will sing you songs.... and believe me.. I fought with this FOREVER.. He changes the G string a 1/2 or whole step down. I didn't realize this for 2 years when I heard an old live recording and you can hear him doing it before the song. Otherwise, that G string rings wrong as you're trying to play the intro lics. Da de da, De de da, Da Da Da . Da De De Da

herbman

thank you lfish if you could write some tabs out for me for i will sing you songs thatd be really nice i have been trying this song for years and cant figure it out

EC

Wow.  Man, you guys get really specific, hey?

Word.

lfish

Hey Herban.

I'd love to work out some new mmj tabs, but unfortunately I don't find the time to do so.  But if I do find some time, I'll sure let you know.

Hey thanks for everything on the tabs you guys... ive found a lot to begin with.

I am searching desperately for tabs to "I Needed It Most"

it sounds faily simple to play, but im retarded when it comes to transcribing or picking apart songs.

any of you know even the basic chords? i would LOVE the help finding this one.

i dont check the boards too often, so if you have info, send a reply to my email address...

once again, thanks... =)

Does anyone know "Dancefloors"? I tried to figure it out last night, but gave up after a few minutes. Does he use a capo on this one?

tomEisenbraun

ok, I've got two good ones fer y'all.

"Nashville to Kentucky"

Verse:

Fmaj7..........................Em
From nashville to kentucky

Fmaj7......................Em
My heart draws the line

Fmaj7........................................Em
Somewhere someone thinks of me

Fmaj7.......................................................G
I just wish it was somewhere I could find

Repeat, substituting humming for the words and guitar soloing (I might figure this out too, when i get some time)

Chorus

C.................................Fmaj7........C
Take me out of this dead-end nightmare

C................................Fmaj7....C
Take me out of this hell I'm in
C.................................Fmaj7........C
Take me out of this dead-end nightmare

C...................................G.................C
and put me back in a world i can live.

and just so you don't get too confused (since I'm not sure if my notation for the chord is completely accurate), I'm playing fmaj7 like this: x03210

Then repeat the whole thing as you please...

"If All Else Fails"

This is done with a capo on the 7th fret - Standard tuning
The chords go like this (I'm giving them my own names, because I'm not THAT much of a theory nut)

A (which can also be an Asus2 (x02200) - I think this variation is used for most of the verses)

Ab5 which is xx1220 or xx1200 (normally the sus2 variation for4 the verse)

Dmaj7 which is xx0220 or xx0200 (sus2) for the verse

Intro: fingericked
A Ab5 Dmaj7 A

Verse:
Ab5(sus2)...Dmaj7(sus2)...Asus2
Surely              your lips     deceive me...

it's the same for all the verses, sometimes with or without the sus2 variation on the chords

Chorus:

A...................E
And I know (That your mine)
A...................E
And I know (That your mine) - can't remember how many times this goes

but end on the A chord, and then take it from an A to Am, so that the next progression is:

Am................................................Em
Sherie your heart, I'll take you there

same progression for the rest of that bit,
then transition straight back into the verse progression.

Any comments or additions you may want to make to these are welcome whole-heartedly. My ear is nowehere near perfect, and I may be missing a note in a chord somewhere that is making it sound a little off. Either that or my guitars tone is simply not as muddied as Jim's is int hese recordings. I can't really tell, maybe a bit of both. Either way, these seem to be pretty accurate from just playing along with the album. There's nothing that sounds weird to me ear, but perhaps I have a chord in the interlude slightly wrong in "If All Else Fails". I'm still playing with that one.

Wow.  Whatever in the hell this chord is:
QuoteDmaj7 which is xx0220 or xx0200 (sus2)
makes my fingers and head hurt all at once.

But my goodness, you're clearly very good at making tabs!

Do you not know how to play it? Because it's relatively easy to finger.

possibly it should be read like this:

e-0
B-2
G-2
D-0
A-x
E-x

the x's meaning you don't play those strings.

Aha!

Oh man, now I understand.  I thought that the xx's and numbers were some kind of strange mathematical equation for acheiving the correct sound.

Much simpler your way!  Thanks!! :)

no prob, I didn't feel liek writing out all the string names. I think I might try and do a ocuple more off of the TN Fire pretty soon. They aren't too awfully difficult sounding.

Do any of you guys know about any riffs or solos being tabbed out.

I've spent some time figuring out Johnny's part on the intro section (and between verses) of "the way that he sings" and several others.  I suppose the ultimate would be the tab of "One Big Holiday."  I wonder how Carl learned all of Johnny's solos.  I guess he either has a great ear or had some good coaching from others with great ears.

That would be sweet to get some solo stuff.  Any of you guys got any solos or riffs down?  Yo.

lfish

Carl got all the solo parts from www.powertabs.net ( see under section m of my morning jacket)

tomEisenbraun

just figured this out -

"I Think I'm Goin to Hell" on the album is in this tuning:

Bb F Bb F Bb D

The only chords in the song are (I think) open, barred at the fifth fret, and barred at the seventh fret. And then the 12th fret, then seventh fret, and back to twelfth fret harmonics for the chorus.

Hope that made sense, I'm in a rush.
The river is moving. The blackbird must be flying.

tomEisenbraun

okay,
Here's "I Think I'm Goin to Hell"

Tuning: Bb F Bb F Bb D

For convenience's sake, I'm gonna name the chords

Bb - 000540
Fmin/open - 000-12-10-0
Eb/open - 000-10-9-0

Eb - 555555
Eb(sus) - 555575

F - 777777
Fsus - 777797

Bb(h) - 12-12-12-12-12-12
F(h) - 777777
(the "h" stands for harmonic)

Intro:

1 bar............1 bar.................2 bars
Eb/open.......Fmin/open..........Bb

Remember to bend up the 9th fret a half-step when playing the Fmin chord. I bend this by pulling it toward the high E string, so that the 10th fret can still ring

Verse:
Doooooooooown in the ceeeeiteeee
Eb or Eb(sus).....................Bb

and so on...

in ashes on the ground
Bb(h)    Eb(h)     Bb(h)

they think they're goin to hell
Bb(h)    Eb(h)     Bb(h)

Ooooooooooout in the hooooooooollow
Eb or Eb(sus).....................Bb

etc...

and i
thiiiiiiiiiiink my ooooooooooother would kill me
F or Fsus..........Eb or Eb/sus..........Bb

if she knew what i was about
Bb(h)    Eb(h)     Bb(h)

i think I'm goin to hell
Bb(h)    Eb(h)     Bb(h)

play the intro again

then the interlude which is just the
F then Eb then B
progression behind the
Devils and demons are comin

and then you end it with the harmonic pattern played earlier

if you want to incorporate the electric guitar bit into this and make it for solo (I know Jim doesn't play it like this in the video, this is just my personal interpretation) you can play the intro liek this:

Fmin(open)
Eb(open)
Bb

Fmin(open)
Eb(open)
000-12-12-12

and play that twice after the normal intro

There ya go!

Anyone have "Strangulation" tab?

Not the intro/outro..  just the main acoustic part.

tomEisenbraun

i believe that the Strangulation tab is just a few pages back.

I'm gonna work on the acoustic version of They ran for the next couple of days. I'll post what I get
The river is moving. The blackbird must be flying.

tomEisenbraun

The chords for the acoustic version of They Ran is pretty easy.

Just Capo 6 and its these three.

x02120  x43222  022100

The second one might be off by a fret. I don't have myguitar on me. Just listen to her, the timings pretty easy and all, and theres a little finger moving between chords. If you need mroe help, I'll be glad to assist.
