Funny thing about YHF. I bought it when it came out. It never caught on with me. I will see it referred to as possibly one of the best albums of the past 20 years. i will check it out 2 or 3 times, and NOTHING on it clicks for me. I have listened to it at least 20 times, and can't think of a tune or melody on it right now. The song that stuck the most with me, and is still my favorite is "How to Fight Loneliness" on Summerteeth. For some reason that song always reminds me of the movie Magnolia, but it was actually in the movie Girl Interrupted.

I think the reason I far prefer MMJ starts with melody. Wilco sounds almost linear in comparison. MMJ reminds me of Mozart and the Beatles (American version of Rubber Soul), for writing tunes that click to the happy spot in my brain. No current rock band writes song as melodic as Xmas Curtain or O is the one, at least nothing I have heard.

I have these moments myself ;)

I've been away from this tread for a while.  Very interesting Wilco discussion.

When talking about dark, ominous Wilco, I'm surprised that no one ever brought up Bull Black Nova.  Probably about as dark and ominous as Wilco gets in my opinion, and the one blast of brilliance on the otherwise disappointing Wilco (The Album).

I also liked hearing people's stories about the "Evening with Wilco" shows back in 2010.  Flake and I were also at the Philly show (as well as the Bethesda, MD one) and those shows were just incredible.

Brett, I own the Ashes of American Flags DVD, I'll try to get it to you.  For me it definitely showcases much of what I love about them as a live band.
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

Bob Weir acoustic set just added to first 4 shows of this tour. Pretty amazing!

Also... even better news from Jambands.com:

"Top-billing will rotate at each show, with all of the headlining acts closing out the evening at different stops. Tour dates can be found below."

If they are rotating headliners... I would guess they are probably playing similar length sets throughout.

Do you have the link? This is awesome news, thank goodness Im going to two shows.

Jam bands shows that MMJ will not be at some of the shows?  But this is confusing to me, as the Chciago show has symbols showing that they will be there and will not be there?  What the heck?

Ok this did it for me. I'm a fan now. This is amazing!

Thanks Shug.  That was sick!! I haven't warmed up to the other stuff as much yet.  I will continue my research.  What I'm afraid is going to happen is...

1.  I'll become a Wilco fan and then scramble to see Americanarama multiple times instead of once as planned.

2.  And I'll be so mad at myself for missing Wilco over the past several years as I've had many chances to see them in the DC area.

Thank you! I'm going to two days in a row, so I'm hoping I get MMJ for one!

Got 2 tickets in the Lower Level Orchestra section for Irvine this morning!  So excited to see my 2 favorite bands at 1 show and see Dylan for the first time!

Congratulations!! Makes me wonder a bit about Roll Call, when the best I could get on pre sale an hour after they went up was Loge. I declined for previously stated reasons. I am not being sarcastic. I am glad for you.

Their 3+ hour "Evening with Wilco" Atlanta show in 2010 is one of my concert-going highlights of my life.

i saw 2 nights of this tour at the Wellmont and it spoiled me on Wilco forever. no Wilco shows since have lived up to those..one of my favorite concert-going events, too (sassbox and caporal were there with me, too)

Those Evening w Wilco shows will be hard to top.  When they came back to Boston at the Wang the next tour Tweedy said something like "Remember the last time we were here and played for 3 and half hours?" Crowd roars, Tweedy laughs "Yeah that's never gonna happen again"

if the dylan/wilco/mmj headliners rotate in that order from the beginning of the tour, i should be in line for a mmj headlining set!
some get stoned, some get strange, sooner or later it all gets real.

do people think that their rotating headliner will get a longer set at their show? If this is the case I'm torn whether I would prefer a wilco or MMJ extended set.. love them both so much.

I would think they'd still get equal time whether 1st, 2nd or last.
if I could pick I'd go Dylan, Wilco, MMJ.
I love Wilco live but still think MMJ put on a more exciting show!  :cheesy:

I would think if Dylan was headlining wilco and MMJ would easily show him up at this stage in dylan's career anyway.

Who knows? Unless we get a definitive word from one of the band's camps, it's anyone's guess, and that's exactly what it would be, a guess. We  really won't know until a few shows play out.

If I had to guess it would be they'd all get equal time, but the headliner might get a little more. Not much, maybe  15-30 minutes if anything.

Totally bummed I missed those Evening With 3 hour Wilco shows, you folks who saw them are rightly stoked and probably forever spoiled.

And so true that Wilco has many different styles they are adept at.

Here is an epic noise freakout.
