According to interview on jsonline.com, they will tour this summer with Dylan and "a third beloved band". Will not stop in Milwaukee but no other details.

The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

Interesting...

Can't see Dylan opening for anyone, but can you really imagine having to sit through Dylan after MMJ? It'd be like chugging some OJ after brushing your teeth with some really awesome toothpaste.

No, I wouldn't really look forward to that, but would have to sit through it in the hopes of getting a possible collaboration. However if after the first show or two together there weren't any,I'd be out of there after MMJ.
"Where's Jim going?"

markcel

He says they will be opening for Dylan, but then does say "hopefully we get to play something together."

I did that, twice, in 2007! It was very much like you imagined here. With the addition of not being able to understand the OJ and it not tasting like any OJ you've ever had before, and being surrounded by withered fanatics of the incomprehensible juice.

I heard from a reliable source that the 3rd band is Wilco.

That's big news.  I doubt there will be a collaboration.  I remember an old article when Jim discussed opening for other artists.  Some were friendly and great.  Dylan, on the other hand, was someone they opened for but never even met.   I think Jim said something along the lines of never being in the same room with him and never "smelling" him.

same with Drive-by Truckers, don't think any of them even saw him or if they did, it was for a minute and no convo ...(although lynzz from this forum got to speak to him i think! that's another story)

Are we talking JJ solo opening for Dylan or MMJ? Wasn't Dawes supposed to be opening for Dylan this summer? Maybe they're the third band?

My Morning Jacket will tour with Bob Dylan this summer, according to an article in Milwaukee's Journal Sentinel. In the interview, Jim James mentions that "My Morning Jacket will be on the road with Bob Dylan this summer," along with a third "beloved band." James appears in the 2007 Bob Dylan biographical film I'm Not There. My Morning Jacket also played a few Dylan covers during a 2007 show at New York's Beacon Theatre tied to the film. They regularly played Dylan's "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You" for several years and occasionally pepper in other Dylan tunes.

James is currently touring in support of his first solo album. Dylan will spend this spring with another modern roots act, Dawes.

How can MMJ open for Dylan?  I'd much rather see a 3 hour set with MMJ versus a 45min-1hr set with MMJ and then Dylan.  Dylan is great, but he is past his prime, and I do not understand why they're opening when they don't have to.  If the Wilco thing is true, same goes for them.  Unless the concert starts at 2pm and each band plays for 3 hours!  Either way, I still want to see these 3 bands, so I'll stop ranting.

Still holding out for a solo MMJ show in Louisville this year.
I wonder why we listen to poets when nobody gives a fuck

I love how Jim loves Milwaukee.  Got to meet and hang out with him for a bit yesterday.  Shooting the show tonight for Relix Magazine.  I put on my big boy pants for this one.  I know I'm going to be blown away.

As far as a Dylan/MMJ tour, I guess I'm ok with it.  Love Dylan's music, but he's so hit or miss.

MMJ may be the greatest live band out there, but Dylan is an institution and a legend. The set's probably going to be shorter, the tickets more $ and the crowds less MMJ centric but it's an honor for them and it'll be a chance for more people to hear them----

And my friend saw Dylan last week and it was the best he's ever seen him ..so you never know.

I've walked out of Dylan shows and enjoyed Dylan shows.
