AM also has Casino Queen, a very Stones-y track, the awesome Too Far Apart, the "hit" I Must Be High and the comical crowd pleaser Passenger Side.  Its like Being There with out any of the avant garde weirdness.  Just a ramshackle, straight forward roots rock record, definitely what critics and fans called Americana back then.

God, AM and Being There are so good. I'm seriously more excited for 4 wilco shows than for 4 MMJ shows. (Sorry). I know my obsessions with bands and albums change week by week, but as of this moment ill say that Being There is tied with Summerteeth as my favorite Wilco record. I wonder what my favorite will be 35 shows into my wilco fandom, because w/o hesitation ISM is my favorite jacket record at all times.

To bring Sky Blue Sky back into it: it may not be the best record, and I know some say its the beginning of their down fall, but god damn. Impossible Germany live is fucking fantastic. Please Be Patient is such an emotional song. Side with the seeds, sky blue sky, either way, leave me are all A+ songs. And WALKEN a live highlight for me, and amazing.
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

I concur on the wilco obsession... too much wilco isn't enough wilco.

I haven't seen Wilco live since 1993. Looking forward to the show. Yep, bought tickets yesterday for the Toronto stopover.

I looked yesterday and pulled up some tickets for Peoria.  They were something like seats 2489 and 2490.  When I purchased two tickets on Wednesday, second day of the presale, they were in the 1400's.  I am assuming this means they have only sold about 2500 tickets total so far.  I hope they sell enough not to cancel.

Has anyone seen a seating chart for the Memphis show?

I don't think so, unless it'll work for RC too. The way it's worded kinda seems like it will. Here's my email

Damn, '93?! I didn't even know they were around in '93! I'd love to hear more about this show, it must have been one of their first as Wilco!

Wilco formed in summer of 94

Now I'd REALLY like to hear about this show!

Jaimoe is just THAT far ahead of his time. Maybe he saw Uncle Tupelo in '93, witnessed the Jeff/Jay feud and deduced that the remainder of band would be Wilco by that time the next year.

I got seats for the Atlanta show in June and I am way excited about seeing my favorite band in the whole entire world!

I am vaguely familiar with Wilco,  but I don't know one single Dylan tune.  Can anyone make suggestions on where to start in Dylan's catalog?  Is there a certain time span I should start with?

You are correct: 1994, although it may have been early 1995. I knew it was the early incarnation, but the early to mid '90s tend to blur together in my old age.

I got a call from my friend that worked at the HMV superstore on Yonge Street in downtown Toronto and he said, "You should come down and check this band out called Wilco. They are doing an in-store mini-concert". So, I walked over and watched the boys do around a 30-minute set of presumably mostly A.M. material; I can't remember the tunes. I was one of around 10 people watching the show. I stood off to the side (near the steel guitar) during the gig and remember walking over and complimenting Tweedy after the show. I picked up A.M. soon afterwards. Oddly enough, I'm still really only a small-time fan of Wilco. Some stuff bores me; some stuff is incredible.

Wow. He's had such a long and glorious career it is really not easy to pin the man down. But I'm pretty sure you know some Dylan songs, you just did not know it.

My recommendation:

Rent or purchase the excellent documentary "No Direction Home", directed by Martin Scorcese. It covers Dylan's rise as a New York folk singer from early 60's through 1966, focusing on his metamorphosis from folkie to rock & roller at the Newport Folk Festival. It is a remarkable movie full of great music and interviews and is the best source of information from his early years. Dylan as a young man was remarkable, a true savant. His (underrated) guitar skills were phenomenal back then.

You can watch it online for $2.99 at: http://www.youtube.com/movie/no-direction-home-bob-dylan

Then I would start with one of the following albums:

The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan - Dylan arrives
Bringing it All Back Home - Dylan in transition from acoustic to electric
Highway 61 Revisited - Dylan goes fully electric
Blonde on Blonde - My personal favorite
Nashville Skyline - Less popular, but another choice album
The Basement Tapes - An official bootleg from his early career with The Band
Infidels - Great return from some weaker albums
Modern Times - A recent classic

The albums in bold are good to start with, but listen to as much as you can. I will warn you though, Dylan does not play guitar anymore. He is almost exclusively on keyboard now, and the last time I saw him his voice was pretty strained. But his touring band is just incredibly tight and more than compensate for it.
