After a couple years of debate, I have officially decided on behalf of all of us that this is the best show they've ever played. I am not saying this based on the setlist, although the set list is incredibly bad ass.

the following 1-2-3-Librarian-4-5 punch is the best 1-2-3-blank-4-5 punch ever. I'd rather see another show run at the Cap or RR over OBH any MFin' day.

my 3 least favorite MMJ songs are in this set, and its still the best show I've ever seen. They could've ended with Careless Whisper and I STILL would think this highly of this show.

that Carried Away, that IMND, that Dondante, that PWW... SHIT
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

e_wind

The Antibalas during the instrumental portion of Dondante!
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

It was a great fucking show! I think it's the best I'm Amazed live recording
no you never gotta fight with me

You certainly cannot forget about I Think I'm Going to Hell... Jim belts this one out real good

i was just at the cap for lucero and j  roddy last friday and all it had me wishing for another MMJ run. such an awesome venue.

Im still of the opinion that PC Night 3 was the best. From the second I left the venue that night until this very moment, I've thought that's the best concert I've ever been to.

Night 2 had its moments though... to say the least

Just a week ago today, I met up with a friend from high school (and my young adulthood before she moved to another state) for the first time in about 18 years! Needless to say, with her knowledge of my obsession for music, I had to turn her on to some MMJ. I made her a few "best of" CD's. I made her two live mix CD's (one of the two Red Rocks 2012 shows and the other of the three Port Chester 2012 shows). For the roughly 78 min. that fit on the PC "best of" CD, I included 7 songs from night 2 ... Carried Away, Dondonte, and PWW ... some of the best stuff for sure!!!

Those two runs are easily my two favorite music experiences. All 5 shows are in in my top 5-10 MMJ shows.

They are all great shows. Never been to red rocks. Waiting for mmj to play again so I can experience that as my first time.

I agree that this was a top 3 show for MMJ - I wasn't at any of the legendary Roo sets, so I can't be definitive in my statement, but I can say that this was the best show I've seen.  My wife and I were front row Loge all three nights and minds were blown.

these versions of Tonight and PWW are the standards by which all others should be measured.

And don't forget the outro tease of Poison in Rocketman - holy crapola.

Greatest version of Dondante (instrumental jam is insane) and greatest version of Touch Me Part 2 and perhaps PWW as well.  Those are stand outs that I'll never tire of listening to.  I remember Jim alone on stage at the closing of the show dancing all over the place all while hoping the show was not ending.

However, with two of my personal least favorite MMJ tunes out of the first six songs played, I can't officially agree.  The flow of the entire night 3 with the run of Where to Begin-Masterplan-O is the One- Wonderful Man- Easy Morning Rebel- Run Thru is tough to beat.  No setlist is perfect as Night 3 also had two on my least favorite list.

I never saw MMJ at Red Rocks and hope to rectify that situation in 2015.  I probably listen to those two 2012 shows more than any other MMJ boots.  I hope they release MPP from 2012.  That show was one of my all time favorites by any band ever.

I love this debate and will research it again and again by listening to the recordings.

The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

APR

Thanks YY.  I have checked out a little from those links a while ago, but I was thinking of and hoping for a soundboard quality version a la the livedownloads.com variety.  And adding the three soundcheck (I Will Be There When You Die - Lowdown- Knot) tunes to that would be sweet!!  I know I'm asking too much, but that also added to the evening's awesomeness.

After having gone to all three shows and having listened to them incessantly, I have come to view PC as one long show. The best three night run of music I have ever seen. (Sorry GD Hampton '87).

But if I HAVE to choose, I am going with PC1. I think that run of Heart Breakin Man, Xmass Curtain (best version?), TWTHS, Off the Record, Steam, Sooner (never knew it, so beautiful), Nashville/Kentucky, Strangulation (!), Smokin, Tyrone is one of the great run of songs in, yes, history.

My two cents.

Tbear... I remember walking out of PC1 and yelling "BEST LOWDOWN EVER!"

This will help reinforce your decision regarding night 2 since this was song 9 that night.

Don't forget Evelyn followed by the jam mixed in with your night 1 list tbear.  I have no problem with that setlist either.

tbear

Yea, APR, I was reflecting on those improve jams from PC1 this morning... They are pretty unique for MMJ and another reason that night stands out for me.

I  agree with everyone who is saying the Touch pt. 2 is far and away the best version, and has set a very very high bar for that song.

My friend, who was not there, is constantly comparing these shows, in greatness, to the GD '77 NE run that included the famous Cornell 77 show. Not something we throw around lightly.

agreed!  and if you had good vantage on Carl, you saw how the intro to Steam was a near disaster that turned into music gold
