It's def initely naturaL sand (as opposed to fake sand). The issue is not a lcak of beach but the lack of waves. They built these little lagoons. I rather enjoyed it, but I'm one of the few because of my little kids. Still, I didn't really mind just floating and seeing various fish swimming around.

There are 2 man made lagoons. One of them has quite stagnant areas, that are not very inviting. Maybe not entirely useless, but the real beaches are so fantastic, it is like going to Italy and eating at Pizza Hut.

thanks.  i'm f-ing dying to go. the more info I get the easier the decision will be to dip into the "retirement" savings I swore I would never touch.  might as well live it up while I still can.

Regardless of the setting, what I and most people enjoyed the most, was the wonder of being around hundreds of people who understand your MMJ obsession. That just does not happen in real life. You could approach any stranger and just talk about anything, and everyone knew everyone else has the same disorder as themselves.

Couldn't agree more. Being fully surrounded by awesome people makes it everything you could want. I mean, the whole resort is for us (yeah, there are a few people there not for jacket but VERY few). And all day leading up to the shows you're sitting at a bar with your barstool submerged in the water sitting around like-minded folks with a full open bar. Then you go to a variety of restaurants and eat to your heart's content. You can wander around after your meal and get yourself "geared" up to your preference pre-show. Then the show is spectacular. Best views you can imagine with a cool breeze off the ocean. Waitstaff is walking around to bring you whatever you want to drink without you having to leave your space. And then you have all night long after the show to reflect and keep partying. We prefer a quiet bar and maybe a pool table, but many others are fans of the late night DJ. And with all of this you have the absolute comfort of not having to get in a car or go anywahere and neither does anyone else. It's as close to perfection as you can get. I'm so glad I'm a grown up cause I know in my 20s I would have never been able to afford this luxury.

This advice has been great. Thanks to everyone who contributed their .02 cents.

I am waiting on a friend to finalize the trip but it looks like its going to happen.

gluvmiller is correct, there is no price than can be put on being surrounded by so many like minded people while at a resort. the main drag with resorts is the other guests and how lame they are, not so here. I am renting a cheopo car because i want the freedom to go to cenotes (they are very close and you can get a taxi, ditto for a fabulous beach (Xpu-ha Beach) will only cost an extra $75.-$100 for me that is worth it even if you only leave the reservation once or twice. i always use easyway rental car off airport site, never let me down. for peace of mind get the "full coverage ins" it costs 3 times as much as the car but last time someone or thing messed up my front bumper and when i dropped off the car, all that waqs said was "see you next year" gonna be a blast!!!

Thanks for the heads up on easyway rental car. We've used Thrifty the last couple times and they only just OK.

don't be scared by the funky location they are in! they also offer 10-15% discount for AAA and if you friend them on FB and other social media. they said they do not allow smoking in the cars...except for weed, classic. they also offer a shot of tequila while doing the paperwork

so if my flight arrives in cancun at 3-3:30 on the 31st, the shuttle buses are still running, right? is there a cut-off time?  how late do they run?

I don't know, but I'm sure you'll be fine. They've gotta run the shuttle through the entire day, I should think.  Once you get settled, come find me and I'll buy you a drink.
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

Relax, seriously. If you arrive in Cancun at 3:30 the day of the first show, you are in the wheelhouse of arrivals. I landed about that time this year, and it was clockwork. Damn divorce and potential court and lawyer fees are holding me up from committing for 2015, but at least I have the time off from work, if things work out for the better for me.

yep, the logical side of my brain tends to disengage when i get a little too fired up. excessive worry and overreaction take over.

got to thinking about this post last night after a few beers and cringed. knew i set myself up for some well-deserved ridicule.

thanks for the responses, i shall try to relax for the next 5 months.

Don't beat yourself up over your post Slappy. I'm not going but have been following the thread, and seems to me you asked a perfectly legitimate question. You're excited about going (as you should be) were worried about something, and didn't want to worry about it for the next five months so you asked. I don't see anything wrong with that or a reason to be ridiculed. Hopefully your concerns have been relieved, and you can look forward to OBH worry free.

Have a blast down there.

I see no ridicule. You are just asking questions. Last year there was a lot of buzz about the facility not being ready, and one poster expressed many concerns. I felt they were fairly valid, but everything worked out great for the vast majority. It should be even easier this year. I'm just trying to reassure you that if you get to the departing airport on time with proper passport credential, then the bulk of worries are just done.

you guys are too kind.  it really was a silly question.  i'm not much of a traveler, just driving from louisville to st louis for pearl jam is an adventure for me.  i've only flown once, 25 years ago, so right now it's all a bit daunting......but so much fun to look forward to!

can't wait to party with each and every one of you!

rincon2

Slappy, based on your last post, I predict you are going to have the greatest time of your life. If you are a beer drinker you need to know that 90% of what they have is Green bottle Dos Equis. the other 10% is Sol. No selection, but I like Dos Equis. They will even drop a case off at your room if you ask. I would tip at least a $5 for that service.

you'd have to try really hard to brew a beer I don't like. xx's will do just fine.

It pains me to say this, but I'm registered for OBH and now will not be able to attend....  reading everyone's comments here makes the sting even worse.

That said, I'm paying into the trip as it goes along hoping it will sell out and someone will want to buy out my spot. I have a fantastic roommate who went last year and will be an awesome party buddy for anyone who takes my place.

I also have a pretty awesome room level that's sold out - the Deluxe Gold Concert Courtyard.

So for you or anyone reading this...  please hit me up if interested.
