I was hugely disappointed in the new Ray LaMontagne. and I am a big fan since day 1.
I get that he wanted to try something different...but it just didn't work for me.

Agreed! His vocals really bug me on the new album.
I wonder why we listen to poets when nobody gives a fuck

If I make a dropbox link to it can I post it here?  :drum:

I'd definitely like to get a link, might be better to PM it. But I dunno
Don't you ever turn it off

I would give all my points to Sturgill. Great album, better dude. Hope he brings home the Grammy.

War on Drugs had a fantastic album/year as well.

New Basement Tapes need more love in this thread. Top half of that album is as strong as anything else released this year IMO

LBSUNFLWR

But the rules stated that 15 points was the most you could give to one album.
This whole thing would look very different if we could give 20 or more points per album.

It is a great album. He's your boy,  right? That's how I feel about Tim from Strand of Oaks. He deserves the attention he's finally getting. Super happy for him.

I agree about everything you posted. The Basement Tapes (especially the top half) is one of my favorite records this year. I just didn't count it because of its nature. I treat it kind of like a compilation or live album or what have you. Not because of the multiple artists, but because the artists that released it didn't write the lyrics.

Sturgill had the AOTY. Its still growing on me.

don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

I'm not going to change my votes but late purchases from Damien Jurado and Jessica Lea Mayfield are finishing the year strong for me.  Anybody else have the new JLM?   Super grungy and much different than her last which I also like.

Looks like I'm going to have to buy Conor, Tweedy and Spoon.   Do I have to buy Real Estate?
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

LBSUNFLWR

I love Real Estate, it was my favorite album of the year. if you liked their other albums then yes, you surely should hear it.

I didn't buy JLM's record, but I listened to it a few times and was impressed by the creativity and boldness. She's a badass, I should go ahead and pick it up.

Yes, get that Real Estate record too!
