OBH2 Supporting Acts

Of all the supporting acts at OBH2, which one(s) stood out most to you?

It was my first time seeing Dr Dog, although I am no stranger to their music, they absolutely killed it.  We were happy to get to see the 3 song sound check during the day.  It almost made their hour and a half feel like a complete set.

I've heard that Dawes were great live as well, but they completely blew away all my expectations.  Their sound is so tight, nailing every break and accent the whole way through.

Sylvan Esso was a fun show too.  Not big into EDM at all, but these guys do it in a way that is quite enjoyable to me.

My first time to see all of these fine acts in person despite being into almost all of them for some time now. Biggest surprise for me was how much I enjoyed BOH. Both sets. They definitely surpassed any expectations I had for them.

The Dawes set was probably my overall favorite supporting set though. Or maybe WOD. Oh shit... what about that late night Prez Hall set!?

What a great 4 days of music. Too much fun!

For me, I had the most fun during that late night Prez Hall Set. The vibe made me really feel like I was in some surreal version of New Orleans. What a blast that set was. Band of Horses really stepped up their game and played a completely rocking set.

I could never make it past the Jacket set on any night before crashing.. i'm getting old.

In fact, utilized night 3 to rest of for night 4.  Not sure what it was, maybe the day drinking.. that day drinking will get ya.  So anyway i missed Dr. Dog and the BOH regular set.  But i will say, the acoustic BOH set on day 4 was very very good.  They didn't have a setlist, they just came out and took requests for 1.5 hours.  They didn't play any covers but someone must have requested one big holiday so they gave us all the ultimate teaser for about 15 to 20 seconds before their lead singer shut it down, citing "common courtesy."  It was a funny moment actually, at first he started to say something like "we can't play that, they're going to play that tonight." but then realized that that too would not be the best thing to say, so he stopped in the middle of the sentence and said "you just don't do that."  I turned around in the middle of it and looked up at the band's third floor balcony and saw Bo with a drink in his hand smiling from ear to ear.   Anyway, it was a great set.

Pres Hall late night blew my mind then I'd say War on Drugs wildly exceeded my expectations.  I'd already seen Dawes several times but this was my favorite performance they have given even tighter than their club show.

Sylvan Esso was also great and I can get down on about 5 Band of Horses songs but then I get bored I think I would dig them much more in a club but had already seen them open for jacket too many times before.

I skipped Biz Markie was spent

That said, is it greedy to ask for more of Jim's side projects as opening acts (or night 3 headliner)? Jim James solo, MOF, and/or New Basement Tapes

War on Drugs and Sylvan Esso were 1 and 2 for me.  The singer of Sylvan Esso can sing! 

timescaper..... you didn't miss much with Biz.   He paused every song several times mid song to hear the crowd sing the words.  It was quite annoying.

I think you're sugar coating! Wow, that was bad shit. The constant pausing/stopping was beyond painful. Soooo bad!

War on Drugs was great, and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed BOH after being less than impressed with them in the past.

Patrick's late night was a ton of fun. But I was a little surprised about how thin the crowd was toward the end. Yeah, it was 5 a.m., but they were crushing it!

Patrick's set was awesome! I also stayed till the end.

Patrick's set was indeed awesome!! Had a great time at that, SE, PHJB late night... basically all late nights except for Biz. 

Word is he is in bad health but that seems like an excuse.  If he was, all he had to do was play the songs a little longer and sit his ass down.  And he didn't play a single minute past his allotted time  (everyone else played LAAAATE).  He did finish up with literally 10 seconds of "Just a Friend" and dropped the mic.

Nick and Amelia from Sylvan Esso have really great chemistry and she's a bad ass with a flawless voice.  Their music and her voice specifically reminds me of European lounge trans music.  It's music you can dance to but you absolutely don't have to.  She's also in the band Mountain Man, 3 Appalachian folk ladies with a lot of harmonizing.

Patrick's set was fun and entertaining, lots of fun and it went late.

PHJB'S late night set was perfect....I love everything they do.

Biz....every time I was into a song, dancing or singing it would cut out.  That was pretty irritating, it probably happened 100x.  Good thing I was with great people and still high on MMJ.

- War on Drugs was Awesome! The sound was a little rough in the beginning but drastically improved as time went on. Had to love Seamus getting up and throwing down some riffs on the harp. 

- Couldn't deal with Sylvan Esso. Don't think we made it through a whole song before we left. Personally, I kinda hate late night music, esp after a show like Jacket threw down that night. I would MUCH RATHER find a chill bar with a pool table so I can discuss the show with my friends.

- Prez Hall opening was great 2nd night. Was the only time Jim came out with any of the support bands. Went to the late night DJ for a little while, but not for long. Found some party favors from a local and moved on to a bar.

- Completely missed the 3rd night and was VERY sad about it. Completely fucked up my back the night before with my son on my shoulders during Jacket. Was really psyched to see Dr Dog. Did eventually get around to hang in the back late in the BoH set. They sounded much better then I anticipated.

- LOVED the BoH acoustic. Got to the rail and really enjoyed their presence and banter. The improve was really cool. I'm now on board (and my wife drank the koolaid) so I forsee some BoH shows in our future. Dawes was fantastic. I was very much eager for their set. We had my 14yo daughter and my 14yo niece with us who also like Dawes so that was really fun with them.

- BizMarkie was EPICALLY BAD Was somewhat on board to do the late night music, but I just couldn't. The event should be embarrassed with how bad he was.

In the end, I don't know that I could rank my "favorite" as i liked so much for different reasons. I can certainly rank BizMarkie as the worst.

Didn't Band of Horses cover JJ Cale during their acoustic set (13 Days) and Gram Parsons (a Song for You)?

I'm pretty sure they covered A Song for You. So the 13 Days cover was the electric set? So much of this trip is blurry to say the least
