If they're not doing a multi-night run at Red Rocks I doubt we'll see any multi-nights at all this summer.

I think we'll see a couple at least but agree it will probably be after the summer.

Let's speculate on where the multi-night runs will be. Only one show(if that) at Red Rocks wrecked my summer plans. Hoping for Chicago.

Chicago would give me a reason to go back home to visit.

I'm hoping for a multi night run at The Moody Theater (ACL Live venue) in Austin, Texas. Have they ever done a Southern multi night run?

they did a multi night at the 40 watt in athens a few years ago. the under the sea theme prom. wish i went

I'm sure there is a reason that song is the single.  If you look at all past first singles it makes sense.

i'm not sure i follow...what singles are you referring to?

Well, after looking at the mmj wiki im confused now, i thout circuital was released as the first single but they dont list it as a single there at all.  Anyway, looking at singles in general:  Outta my system, black metal, im amazed, off the record..  All qualify as some of the poppiest songs in the mmj catalogue.  I wouldnt be worried if the first single off of the new album is in a similar vein.  This has been going on since 2005 and they have still managed to write some pretty good music in between.  Ill be worried when the whole album sounds like that.  However, we already know through compound fracture and only memories that this is not the case.

gotcha.  I tend to agree with this.  I was texting with another forum member about Big Decisions and Jim's co-writer on the track (Dan Wilson).  Dude's a major pop songwriter (Adele's Someone Like You, Pink, John Legend...also Pres Hall, Spoon, Weezer).  So, it's not surprising it has a very accessible sound.

I haven't heard these exact details, but I did get the gist from the grapevine that the tour isn't going be massive this year. Hopefully the grapevine and this guy are wrong for west coasters sake.

Where does the South and Midwest fit into these?  So no Red Rocks this year?

Not sure how serious of a post this was, but i highly doubt that they would only tour the east coast in their first real tour since 2012.  To add, it's an album tour, so they are going to want to promote it far and wide.

I see this tour being very similar to the 2011 circuital tour.  That one started with a few festivals (Hangout, Wakarusa, Bonnaroo i do believe) before hitting the midwest immediately after and proceeding all over the country.  That year also featured a one-nighter at Red Rocks and a brief excursion into europe before returning home for NYE.

The big question is this:  With the second album already just around the corner, what happens after this first album tour?  Do they really jump right back into another album tour?  Seems like there should be a gap between NYE and the next album drop with so far only OBH3 to fill it.  Perhaps more international dates?  Maybe a quick and dirty round 2 through the U.S?  Surely, after such a long time off, they won't go back on break for another 6 months.  Whatever the case, i'm sure they are excited at the endless possibilities that are in front of them and i can't wait to see what happens.

he's written a couple of tracks with the band but doesn't appear that he has with someone outside the band, at least according to the Wikis for the studio albums.

I saw this awesome post on FB yesterday regarding summer plans being on hold until MMJ tour dates are announced.
I thought about how excited I will be to see not only the festivals they'll be at, but also all of the super cool venues they will play based on sound quality, location, etc...
They never fail to blow me away, and I honestly don't know if I'm happy or sad when I tell a friend about them and I hear "who is My Morning Jacket"?
Just the best band ever that has the coolest following of fans.
I'm assuming they will play somewhere in Chicago (possibly Lolla?) and Milwaukee so I'm counting on at least 2 shows this summer even though I just got back fromOBH!
I'll be the designated drive for both shows for me and my MMJ friends.  I can't wait for the announcements!!!!

I would take wams post pretty, seriously. If for nothing more, to prepare yourself for something  that would be disappointing compared to MMJ's known hard-touring ways. Some outlying issues are just bigger than tour dates, and like I said, I was told that this years tour will not be the massive album-tour we're used to from the band.

Nothing is set in stone yet, either. Its very possible that things will change by the time they announce the dates, and maybe they'll play more.

I would sort of be stoked if Wamsankas theory is on target.  Start off the holiday's with an east coast run, slink down to Mexico for OBH3, and then do the Best West Coast all summer.  Yes Please.

My jacket's gonna be cut slim and checked

I'm super stoked as I have some vacation time and some money saved up so I'll be able to go to hopefully 5 to 6 shows this year. I'm hoping (Chicago, Milwaukee, Forecastle, Red Rocks, San Francisco, NYE?).

I just can't wait to see, is there an album release show in Louisville? Any multi night city shows confirmed? NYE show this year? (hopefully Chicago!) Which staple songs get left out for the new ones or possibly 3 hour sets? (wishful I know) Who opens up for them this year? (please Strand of Oaks/Dr. Dog/Phosphorescent/War on Drugs) Will MMJ be playing any New Basement Tapes songs that Jim did? Are most venues this summer going to be outdoor ones? (hopefully not in Chicago due to curfew)

I love comparing the album tracks to hearing them live. I always love finding the differences and added elements to the live songs, can't wait!

Why does there have to be co-writers for songs? Why can't Jim and the gang write songs without some pop dude in the music industry? >.<

I was at Brooklyn Bowl one night and saw Peter Shapiro.  He owns Brooklyn Bowl & Capitol Theatre.

I asked him if he was trying to get MMJ back for another 3 night run at the Cap.

He had a big smile on his face and simply said, "We're working on it"
