Just saw the Alabama Shakes Saturday night at the beautiful Chicago Theater.
AMAZING SHOW doesn't even come close to describing what Brittany and the band did on that stage. Goosebumps! Fleshed out sound, new band member and back up singers make this a tour not to be missed. Cannot recommend catching a show enough. Opener was great as well!

But I digress: I've seen btween 75-100 of all variety of shows, from all different kinds of bands at the Chicago Theater over the years. Wonderful place! BUT Saturday night I saw something I've never seen there before, A WORKING DOG w/handler at the entrance and walking around the venue, and past bathrooms. I'm just putting this information out there. Whatever you like to do, or how you experience shows is nobody's business  but your own, no judgement here. However, the Cook County "bed & breakfast" (jail) has some pretty bad yelp reviews :)
BE SAFE and BE CAREFULL roll-callers.

so did you see anyone stopped, hassled, arrested, or even questioned?  if not, it probably wasnt a drug dog.  i would assume there were at least a few people carrying at a shakes show.

I would imagine it could still be a drug dog, but the command to seek out drugs wasn't given. The majority of the times you see dogs at airports or anywhere else they are there for intimidation. Now randomly they may issue the command and once they do the dog will go looking. Until the command is given, the dog could care less about the millions of odors it smells (aside from other doggy buts)... Either way, be careful.

I think a large part of it could be that there was a shooting at a club over the weekend in Logan Square.

Lesson being: Vacuum seal and smoke one-hitters in the bathroom...
Security at the Chicago Theater has always been pretty intense...pat downs...roaming guards...aisle watchers

We just reserved a room at Rays Bucktowm B and B. They have lots of rooms left and it would be fun to fill it up with MMJ fans.  The prices are reasonable, you get a gourmet breakfast included, free parking, steam room, and a short walk to the Blue line to get to the Chicago Theater. It's also in a cool neighborhood.

As far as i know, they don't train dogs for the two things i most like to take with me to Jacket shows.  But it's always safest (and probably chronologically smart) to ingest that sort of thing before you get there.

Happy trails!

LB

I figure they'll play the entire waterfall album....will they do the same with circuital? or just play like 8 songs or so?
no you never gotta fight with me

Thanks for the heads up Tippietoes22.
The Chicago P.D. doesn't hassle pot smokers like they use to,  its a fine.  They pretty much leave people alone as long as your discrete.   C.P.D doesn't like paper work for minor infractions.  I know some of them and thats what I've been told.  Just don't be a dick

I'm in no way condoning the consumption of the Devils Lettuce by the way,  but if you wanna smoke the reefers be my guest.

Hey if anyone wants to do a free My Morning Yoga class by that beautiful lake, I'd be happy to teach one...and we could plan it so that it is right by the blues fest, like at Pritzger Pavilion, so it's like a 5 minute walk!!! Lemme know!!! I did Gym Games yoga this morning, so I thought this would be fun!

Didn't you mean Yym Yames Yoga, MusiKel Mama!?

Pattilovesmmj and I wanted to make shirts that say "Gym Games is my Gyro" pronounced Jim James is my Hero (or Jeeroh).

MusiKel Mama

Other ideas include a picture of a boy cat on a blanket on a ship...a tom blanket ship...or making a set of coasters with bows on them. (I know the pronunciations are off/misspelled, but I think they'd be awesome) or like a picture of Bo wearing a Bow on a Koster brand Coaster...?

After many of us have heard the new album and some of us have already experienced it live, anyone else still worried about the no repeats thing? Personally, im actually hoping that a lot of these Waterfall tracks get repeated

We need to get the ball rolling on some meetup places.

I'm also planning on hitting up at least one of your fine Chicago Steakhouses while I'm in town, and would love some recommendations. I've always heard about Gibsons, and was leaning towards that but any tips would be appreciated.

It is not famous, but every carnivore I have brought to this place confirms that it is the best steak they've ever had. The empanadas and chimichurri have made grown men weep. Plus, it is byob.

Chicago Chop House is an awesome place to go off of Ontario. They have so many different cuts and styles to choose from and an awesome old school atmosphere.

Mastro's Steakhouse is really good too. They have good amount of choices as well. Always a good time here.

Not necessarily a "steak house", but if you are looking for just an out of this world experience check out RPM, if you can get in.
Doesn't matter what you're doin', as long as you're losin' your head

Gibsons Steakhouse for the R.W Chicago Bone-In Rib Eye.... No better cut anywhere. It's in the viagra triangle as I call it on Rush st. Best Steakhouse no doubt. Pricey but worth it. Plus you'll see celebs/politicians etc.
Mona Lisa must'a had the highway blues, you can tell by the way she smiles.

Some plans are in the works for a pre-show gathering that might involve a MMJ memorabilia auction for charity.  Some Chicago-based folks did this a few years ago and got some participation from management.  Stay tuned...

Pearl Jam fans do something similar, pre-party fundraisers via the Wishlist Foundation. GREAT idea.
