Just got the good version of the show! Amazing. They just keep getting better. I also have to respectfully disagree with those who weren't happy with the Steam>Memories>Steam arrangement. It's still a work in progress but I love it. Also love that the band thinks of ways to spice up old standards. Give you something new to chew on even if you've seen them a bunch.

Sorry, I've got to disagree with you a bit here. First off, Steam Engine is a Masterpiece! Far, far from an old standard!   Secondly, it doesn't need ANY spicing up,IMO.

It failed as far as I'm concerned but only because Steam shouldn't have been messed with. I think it's great they try these segues, but this one just didn't work for me at all.

Both songs stand on their own well enough,IMO. Especially Steam Engine

Have to agree with Eric on all accounts here.
After re watching and re listening again and again, I tried to look at it in a new perspective, and listen to it when u know its coming, instead of being surprised... And I still feel it doesn't work with this song. I admire the innovative attempt, but in my opinion like I said in a previous post, this song and dondante have the biggest builds that everyone is waiting for, and it takes the "steam" out of the whole climax of the song. Again just my opinion, but I do hope they continue the attempts to change things up.
Even if they did it at the end and lead into it, kinda like dondante into lay low... Which I thought was great.
Cause that is another song u can't mess with in the middle. What if they broke off and segued into another song right as the "you had worried" part was about to kick in?
I feel like it would be the same criticism.
Again my opinion...
Can you give a newbie a link to performances that you like/indicative of what you describe?  Thanks!

really odd they didnt at least bust out a 9 minute Down On The Bottom during the encore or something

Lonndown27 - curious why that's odd?
Cuz it's been so long since someone shattered me.

Its an amazing song and its a good one from the 2015 touring era especially the first time it was played at OBH2015

Gotcha - Totally agree too.  Love it on the Basement Tapes, loved it at OBH2!

And from a comedy standpoint, playing Down On The Bottom while over a mile high is kinda funny!

Just got a chance to watch some of this on Youtube.  What was up with the end of Wonderful?  Brandi Carlile was quite a trooper to hang in there for 5 minutes of self indulgent, incoherent nonsense at the end and then doesn't even get acknowledged?  Jim is just too weird for me sometimes, that was some Jim Morrison stuff (and not in a good way).

On a more positive note, I like that Lay Low has taken the place of Run Thru as their partial song to add on.  Run Thru is just too good to chop up and not play in its entirety, while with Lay Low they are playing the absolute best part of the song.

I really dug that self indulgent moment. I wasn't even there and I felt the positivity. I think Jim just felt this utter moment to connect with people on an even higher level. Or, maybe he was stoned and just wanted to Ommmm..

But I can only imagine, being at Red Rocks, a whole crowd of people Ohhhming together would have been a real special moment. Jim is a weird dude, but it's a brand of weird I can get behind.
Mona Lisa must'a had the highway blues, you can tell by the way she smiles.

Was there, can confirm the vibe was KILLER at the end of Wonderful. It was the perfect transition into the absolutely stellar encore (although I feel like they could have used the guest spot a little more advantageously).
It's DON FREAKIN DANTE by My Morning Jacket, just chill the hell out and listen!

Yeah Under the Overpass was pretty surreal to me and definitely one of my favorite live MMJ moments. If I didn't already think they were the most down to earth nicest band around, I definitely did after that morning!

My feelings exactly!

I remember walking back to the Galt in the pouring rain, and we weren't sure the rest of the fest would happen that day because of the weather. Most of us all felt the same way; if that was all the music we saw that day, none of us would have a complaint!

We were treated to a truly special thing that day, and not many other bands would've done that.   Especially since they sure didn't have to. It would've been very easy to just give everyone their posters, and call the Sound check off.

Still one of the coolest things I've witnessed in all my concert going years.

Totally agree! Myself and two friends went to the Belle After Party and we decided to go up on the of the boat and sit outside to relax, drink and we could still hear when MMJ and Preservation Hall played. Well little did we know MMJ came out of their room and walked right by us to head down to play their mini set.
On the way back they hung out with some of us up there. We spoke to all the guys and it was great because I had the opportunity individually to tell Bo, Tom, and Carl how much I as well as all of us in the morning appreciated them coming out to play under the Overpass. I told them they didn't have to do that and it just showed how damn cool they were. Tom actually was impressed everyone hung out during the crappy weather and thanked us for staying. Bo mentioned how much he realizes people are devoted to the band and they appreciate it so much. Carl pretty much said no problem and they appreciate how far everyone traveled.
It was the single best MMJ day ever, under the Overpass, MMJ show, Belle After Party and getting to chat with the band.

just listening to this for the first time. I have to agree with those who did not enjoy the Only memories remain inside of Steam Engine. I really like Only memories Remain too, but I was waiting for the best part of Steam Engine and then it just lost me...however when it came back and we got the best part of steam Engine right into Phone Went West I was thrilled. Fantastic version of Phone Went West. it's always the highlight of any show to me!

Loving this show, so excited to have it, just think that Steam Engine is too good to mess with ever!

Agree 100%.  The Steam Engine / Only Memories Remain medley didn't work for me, but I appreciate the band trying new things.

Finally got around to listening to this show..
Friggin mind blowing.

This might be a bold statement but the stretch of songs from Dondante to Tropics could be the best flow of tunes MMJ ever executed consecutively in my opinion.
