Okay I have a buddy, who's seen a lot of shows by a lot of great bands, and he went to the August 2nd, 2002 show at Kilby Court, in Salt Lake City, to see My Morning Jacket opening for Ben Kweller. He tells me they OPENED WITH "Can You See The Hard Helmet On My Head" and played a lot of stuff from Chocolate & Ice except Cobra, played some At Dawn stuff, and OBH, but the most insane aspect is him saying they opened with a song that MMJ have NEVER played, at least thats documented.

I believe my friend, he doesnt usually lie about these kinda things, but if anyone could do some digging as i have, maybe even ask the band (JohnnyYac!!! you could do this), cause I wanna know...I love that song so much, and it'd be cool to know if they ever tried it live.

I'll go out on a limb and say your buddy is jetsonchrist27, who just edited the setlist in the last 24 hours.

Lonndown27

no that was me, because he swore 100% thats what went down, and that show had never appeared on any archive ive ever seen for MMJ setlists so I added the date and temporarily filled out the songs he SWORE were played.... I wanna get to the bottom of this, very badly...I can't see them ONLY PLAYING Can You See only once, and somehow ONLY in little ol' Salt Lake City, my hometown....I MUST Find the truth...

I wanted to see if anyone who went to that show would post anything in regards to it

Not sure that's the best approach, to edit a setlist archive based upon what one dude says happened 13 years ago! But I guess the website is like wiki and should be taken with a grain of salt.

i understand what you mean, but really this guy doesnt make shit up, and MMJ aren't like his favorite band so its not like hes lying for some type of street cred, and considering  his favorite album by them is Chocolate and Ice EP its interesting because he WOULD know what that song sounds like and it wouldn't leave his memory.

I believe him, but I just wanna make sure somehow, someway. Look at the billion other setlists up on that site or any site for that matter, unless there's a taper, we really dont know for sure. Everyone at Columbus 2012 could've gotten together and went "Lets pretend they played Come Closer tonight!" even though MMJ put out the official setlist from that show, you get what I'm saying, using that as an example.

Either way, I wanna get to the bottom of this somehow. JohnnYYac! Does Jim have a giant archive of setlists in his place somewhere of every Jacket show? I'm sure they do to be honest, they are a band that loves documentation. I believe they've recorded at least 95% of their shows too...

OK, there is currently no evidence that CYSTHHOMH has been performed live by My Morning Jacket.

There are a number of early shows (1999-2002) with no concrete setlist information available.  This includes the aforementioned 2002-08-02 Kilby Court SLC show.

An analysis of BH's excellent setlist spreadsheet shows it never appearing on any known setlists, including the Terminal 5 run, where a number of songs were performed live for the first time.

I asked Tom if he had any recollection of CYSTHHOMH being played.  See our conversation below.

I just like to research this stuff.

I'm still out of work following my surgical nightmare from last October, so I have some time on my hands, especially now that my 3 girls are back to school.

My knowledge of MMJ history is not really knowledge, but picking the brains of others.  And Tom is generally easy to "talk" to on Twitter.

BH developed an amazing setlist spreadsheet.  CC Baxter maintains an excellent show/setlist archive, and there are remnants of early MMJ websites to peruse through.

Tom is the shit! he's even replied to a few of my things, and I'm a weird son of a bitch. Thank you Johnny, I think I'll take Tom's memory over my friends'. Its just sad cause i wanted my friend to be telling the truth  :undecided:  maybe he just misremembered it as Sooner...like I said he wasnt the biggest Jacket fan, but loved them enough to know what song's which. Thanks for getting an answer like that Johnny that's insane!!!

I appreciate this! THE JACKET DETECTIVES!!! Its Time For Sleuthing!!!

2002 was one of the busiest touring years ever, probably THE biggest, with about 150 shows played.   About half of the setlists are missing unfortunatley including the Utah show in question.   HOWEVER, of all the setlists that ARE available, the only song they did from C&I was Sooner, and it shows up 11 times.  There is no record of CYSTHHONH or Holy EVER.   That's not to say it's not possible, but highly unlikely.    To date Sooner and Cobra have showed up 66 times and Sweetheart twice.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Wow I thought there was only ONE Sweetheart! ! Do You have the recording perhaps? ?? One of my favorites and I love the version from 2006 in Texas

Upon further review there was one "full band" show version at the Gypsy Tea Room in 2006 that you mentioned.   The second one happened in 2010 at a Jim Solo show in Louisville on Valentines Day at the Seelbach Rathskeller for Louisville is for Lovers 10 Year Anniversary.  There is a recording available.
