Hey folks, so by now we've digested many of the recordings (so many fine recordings too. many thanks to the tapers!) from the first leg of the tour.  What are your favorite moments/song runs/performances etc?  Either from attending the show or just enjoying the tapes at home.  Here are mine:

1.  Miami.  From They Ran on.  Another forum member, i think JPV, pointed out this run and it's a beast.  Never heard Pat drum quite like this.  The back end of the Steam Engine with Carl on sax is just nuts.

2.  Athens.  The outro on I Will Sing You Songs.  Been discussed on the forum, if you like your Jacket dark and nasty, here it is.  In my wheelhouse.

3.  First night Milwaukee.  I was at these two shows.  The Riverside was rocking both nights.  Favorite moment was the Way He Sings > Dancefloors from night one.  Love the late set Way He Sings.  An uplifting moment.

4.  Atlanta.  The Dondante.  whoa.

5.  Red Rocks.  I dug the ohm session on Wonderful....and Carl just killing it on Hell.

Let's hear it!!  So many good recordings from this first leg.  Can't imagine what Europe will be like.  Trying to pull together a trip to the Paradiso!!!!!

Dood great thread! Id go with:

1. How Do You Know being reimagined in St Louis what a beautiful version . That show's Strangulation and O Is The One are just SICK

2. Red Rocks was fucking phenomenal and an event I loved the At Dawn and the way Jim sings ;) god it was great to see the real Jacket people in the crowd getting lost in the music and doing us all at home proud :)

3. They Ran from Red Hat was one of the trippiest ive ever heard and the two guitars dripping around each other was brilliance personified

4. Lay Low from Chicago 6/11 with the two guitars on the intro made it so heavy and badass as Jim and Carl both bend the sixth string down and give it a little  shake to send waves of bliss to us all :) that Evelyn on that night was disgusting

5. The Steam Engine from Merriweather for Erik, a tribute for a fallen fan who I believe was a member of this very board although I was unfortunate not to have known him. It was the BEST Steam of the year along with a mind altering Golden Earrings Twilight Zone / Red Ryders Lunatic Fringe jam at the last fourth of Touch Me Pt II.  Its such a HOT fucking jam.

6. The longer heavier versions of Easy Morning Rebel especially shows that contain a version with a long middle to outro jam ...one of my favorite moments of the live Jacket experience is that Easy Morning Jam...good god

7.the electric At Dawns were a necessary update to a classic that everyone loves , and adding an outro jam was a great idea

8. The Steam Engine into Only Memories may have irked people but I like it.  If it was a show I was at and since I haven't seen Steam live yet, id be a little annoyed but other than that I love the experimentation. The best version was at Red Rocks cause they were able to segue a little better into it then just suddenly breaking into it. Overall,  we love when these guys do this stuff and we should expect and want them to

9. Jim's sunglasses!  Whens he gonna take those off ;) ???

10. The incredible musicianship they display every show no matter how small or how huge or career defining its always the same thing you get: amazing Jacket sounds :) other than that. ..you NEVER know what they're going to do. Many many surprises including Roger Waters at Newport,  Rollin Back twice, Knot Comes Loose , Just One Thing at a soundcheck and the RR2015 stream / live album download

My kind of thread!!!!!!

1. Athens - Seeing most of the Waterfall live for the first time with Jim standing about 10 feet from me. The venue was small and hot and crowded. The songs were still fresh to the band and I could sense they were still figuring it out.

2. Cleveland - First night of the proper tour... opening with Believe behind the veil of the psychedelic waterfall.... total surprise entrance. Then realizing they brought a new light show for the rest of the tour.

3. Circuital. I have to say, looking at my setlist archive, Circuital was played at EVERY show I had seen. I liked the song first listen, but got a little tired of losing 7+ minutes where w might get another deep cut. However, the Circuital versions this tour are just stunning. They really groove on that song now and I am back in the "pro-circuital" camp.

4. Minneapolis Night 1 - Sound Check - My first Knot Comes Loose and Masterplan. Sweet.

5. Charlotte - Loved the collabs with Lucius. The extra percussion on At Dawn and Highly Suspicious were amazing.

6. Bonnaroo Live Stream - Enjoying the show from the comfort of my couch, yet longing to be back on the farm with 70,000 of my best friends.

7. Atlanta - 2 nights. Nothing else to day. The best live shows I've ever seen. I don;t think any band will ever top these shows. Highlights are so many.... TIWTCWY opener, jaw dropping War Begun, heart stopping Dondante, Steam->Memories, lots of songs I'd never seen before, I'm still in awe.

8. Red Rocks Live Stream - Feeling overwhelmed with joy to watch and listen to a high quality live performance from my favorite band. They played all the hits and played them to perfection.

this tour has been life changing for me.

new fan here! saw em 3 nights in 5 days - nashville, atlanta night 1, birmingham - and its safe to say im a superfan for life. that atlanta show spoiled me, best encore i couldve ever asked for (Smokin -> Touch me PT1 -> Touch me pt 2 -> COBRA -> Highly Suspicious -> Gideon) !! also the OBH opener in nashville for my first show was too perfect.

From the shows I went to...

Hearing all the songs my friends (pretty casual fans) wanted to hear. They all specifically wanted one song each - Victory Dance, Phone Went West, Dondante, Lay Low, Mahgeetah. Got em all. I didn't get my Cobra or Strangulation but oh well.

The new songs. They all sound amazing live and they've fit very well into the setlists. Love Steam/Memories. The vibe of this album and tour have resonated so well with me, and have confirmed that MMJ will last the test of time with me.

Surprisingly, the Circuital tracks were some of my favorite songs from the Detroit shows. Have always loved Victory and Black Metal, but Wonderful, Circuital, and First Light were actually pretty sweet.

The encore night 2. Finally found a spot in the crowd where the vibes were perfect. Circuital/Black Metal/Anytime/OBH. So. Much. Air Guitar.

There are so many stand out moments, but for me it was the 3 night Chicago run. Flying in from Texas made it extra special for several reasons.

Night one was the slower deep paced run with Knot Comes Loose and Rollin' Back and it was great to share that night with my girlfriend.

Night two was my birthday and I got to bring my mom to her first Jacket show. Also, when the Blackhawks won and the whole crowd started cheering "Let's Go HAWKS" sent chills down my spine. I wish the band would've busted into Victory Dance to feed off that energy. Also, sitting next to JohnnYAC was good times.

Night three, I got to bring my two best friends to their first Jacket show. I promised my friend Sonya I would fly back to Chicago to take her to her first MMJ show as she loved the band but hadn't had the chance to see them. It was epic basically watching her cry her eyes out for 2/3 of the show.

There are too many stand out moments and great versions of songs played, but it was more those moments of shared connection with family, friends and fellow fans of this music that made the tour for me.
Mona Lisa must'a had the highway blues, you can tell by the way she smiles.

Red Rocks - Believe, ....Going to Hell, Wonderful were spot on.

The stream was a great event because it made it feel like it was a bigger event!

I'm a late comer to My Morning Jacket.  I only started getting into them last year, when I first heard "I Will Sing You Songs" and recorded their Storytellers episode (which I've watched at least a hundred times).  Got tickets to see them on the Americarama tour with Wilco & Bob Dylan and I knew a couple of the songs they played.  Saw the ad for OBH2 and talked the wife into going (it wasn't tough, the lineup was great, plus I had a feeling we'd really dig MMJ, and I was right).  So getting back from OBH2 in February was basically the beginning of me digging into this band.

So with my back story out of the way, the highlight of this tour for me was seeing them at Red Rocks.  It had always been a dream of my wife & I to see someone at Red Rocks.  We flew in Friday afternoon, got food and drinks and headed to Red Rocks.  For me musically there were a handful of highlights.

1. Bermuda Highway early on in the set
2. Dondante was epic
3. I Think I'm Going To Hell
4. Anytime (a favorite that had me pogoing like crazy, thinking 'We need Steam Engine or War Begun next'
5. Anytime followed by Steam Engine!!!!!!!!
6. Thinking during the outro part of the Steam Engine / Only Memories Remain mashup 'Okay, now we need Phone Went West (for my wife)'
7. Phone Went West into Magheetah to end set.

At this point I was pretty much ecstatic.  Exhausted from being on my feet for the whole show (also adjusting to the travel & altitude)

And then there was the encore... Wonderful (with Brandi Carlile) the two Touch Mes, Run Thru and OBH!!

What a show.  And to be reliving the show right now with the download - such great stuff!!!

Hoping to go see them in L.A., then waiting for the new album & OBH3 announcement!!!
Cuz it's been so long since someone shattered me.

This has been a great tour run so far this year, for me the standouts are from shows I went to:
1. Chicago 3 night run. It was crazy I was working long hours each of these days, going to the show, getting home late and doing it all over again! The sets these three nights were amazing, we got "Hillside Song", "Rollin Back", "Smokin' From Shootin' with the Blackhawks chant, etc...
2. Milwaukee a couple great moments, "Just One Thing" at the soundcheck, my friends reactions to some of the new songs and getting "Aluminum Park" was real nice too.
3. Red Rocks....first show....amazing venue with great folks there. The show was like a "lets play our greatest hits the best way we can for 3 hours!"

Made a lot of great memories, made new MMJ fans both at shows and here on the boad, and although I probably won't be able to make anymore shows the rest of this year, I am amped and ready for next year with more new great music and dusting off some different rare songs next tour (hopefully "Come Closer, "Picture of You", "Into the Woods").

1. Bonnaroo- my first Jacket show! Got on the rail and as soon as I heard Jim sing "time to row, the answer floats on down the farthest shore of the mind" I knew I was about to transcend space and time and truly get "out of body for the first time in a long time"

2. Forecastle- camping out on the rail for 7+ hours in 95 degree heat with 100s of other diehard fans was quite the trip... And during Way That He Sings.... Can't even describe the feeling of singing that back to Jim from the front row

3. Nashville- being one of the first shows in a brand new beautiful venue like that was awesome. When Bo told security to get out of the way so everyone in orchestra seating could come up to the rail and Jim commented how much better it was now that he had everyone up close and could see all our faces
- I also got Carl's setlist from this show, thanks to a random act of kindness from a stranger- thanks dude!

4. Red Rocks- Not sure what can be said about this experience... My first trip to Red Rocks was perfect. Such a spiritual venue, band, and show that I'm so happy I have on video! (Got one of Jim's picks afterwards too )

Jacket has been my favorite band for ~3 years now, but this summer was the first time I got to experience them live, and I have been overwhelmed by the love and good vibes between the fans at the shows and on this forum- Thank you everyone!!!
I'm in love with this soul; it's a meaning that I understand
