I live in Vegas and find that in general audiences in Vegas are very lackluster. The crowd energy was definitely lower on the second night, but the show was so sick! My small group was dancing our asses off but most of the crowd in front of us barely bobbed a head. Their loss. Im not entirely sure as to why but the local live music crowd is very small, and we don't really have that home town vibe that a lot of you have when your favorite band comes to your town. When the band gives us a shoutout, they are less speaking to the people that live here and mainly to travelers. I am still baffled that these two nights didn't sell out, but I personally had the best two nights I've had in a long time.

im under the assumption that mmj's promoters are SHIT. when they came to birmingham the show was no where to be found on probably the most popular ticket app, livenation/ticketmaster. I had to search the thing, when it showed me the "top 10" concerts that week in Bham.

Not the Jacket's fault at all, but their promoters really seem to suck. We all know the amount of non sellouts this tour has been way too often.

I love their promoters. Their sucking at their job means I get to see the greatest band in the world at small venues w killer sound like the Cap and the beacon. I couldn't care less about the casual fan. If you're a true music fan, you know and love this band.

SPLINDED first night all through. Talked a buddy to go with the 2nd night and slipped into comas. Too too many ballads. Energy was totally off and negative. I apologized all the way home. The encore was strong yet all Marcus could utter was 'SHIT now this man thinks he's Jesus'

PUMPED my buddy up HARD for his first Jacket experience. total buzz kill

Seen The Jacket over 25 times never thought I'd be so disenchanted.

weird. ive heard the exact opposite from everyone....
My wife said the opposite thing as well. She's a casual fan and grumbled about too many ballads on night one.  I'll take the slow songs with the fast ones. It's all great. I thought both shows were amazing.

fortbethel

First night was fanfuckintastic. My three FAV songs off Waterfall and executed perfectly. Just from beginning to end. Top five encours EVER. Just a 'ho hum' second show. Over it.

The Truckers & Bottle Rockets rule in 'my book' but 'it still moves' was my introduction into Americana Grass Roots angle so The Jacket are still very special.

Did we get 'highly suspicious' either night? Can't remember.

JDUB

No Highly Suspicious, but we did get Holdin On To Black Metal.

I'm very surprised to hear some people think that night 2 was mediocre.

I was at both and would give the edge to Night 1, but I thought Night 2 was fantastic as well, particularly Master Plan, Easy Morning Rebel, Lowdown, and Thin Line.  Also very cool to have Steam Engine end the set and have the Okonokos-style ending of it where Patrick gets a solo.  I think night two felt short by about one barn burner (like if they had played Run Thru after Steam), but still a great show in my opinion.

One interesting thing was, besides the songs from the new album, how much Night 1 pulled from the first two records and Circuital, then Night 2 pulled almost completely from the middle 3 albums (ISM, Z, EU) and almost nothing from the others (1 AD song, and no TTF or Circuital songs).

My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

consider the source here, this is the guy that was pissed about the daytime background music at OBH and went off on people who like to partake in some fun from time to time.  I wouldn't put much weight on this thread.

I totally agree with Whippy.  I certainly give the edge to Night 1 but I thought both nights kicked ass and were up there with some of their best shows.

Great small venue and I had no trouble securing the rail both nights.

I've seen MMJ close to 60 times now rarely ever leave feeling let down.  After 2 nights in Vegas and 2 excellent shows, I am certainly glad I made the trip.  Great weekend.

Bring on the 4 shows next month in NYC at The Beacon.

was some shakin' and some record playin'

Two great nights of music.  I should mention Stran of Oaks also killed it both nights.  My favorite and the most fitting MMJ opener I've seen to date

Indeed they did.  I thought SOO was fantastic.

i must admit to wondering why he couldn't just post his unhappy thoughts in the existing vegas thread. why the need to start another one?

Long time lurker, first time posting...

I was curious what the reaction might be on here as to which night in Vegas folks preferred. My brother and I were in town for both of the shows and had an awesome time at each but definitely gave the edge to Friday night. It was my brother's first time after enjoying the albums for a number of years and he was blown away. I've only seen them about 10 times so admittedly dealing from limited experience but I would put Friday up there as possibly my favorite show ever.  Tiny venue with amazing sound, great lights, etc. certainly helped. But I felt there was a palpable energy buzzing off the band, surging through the crowd and building throughout the show. By the time Black Metal closed out the set in a nice frenzied fashion we were both scraping our faces off the floor. Only to have to do it yet again after the encore.

Saturday was still ridiculously good by most any band's standards but felt a bit more run of the mill for the mighty MMJ.

gardenparty

Loved both nights.   The energy night one was a little more live.  Probably because most just got in and didn't have the whole day Saturday to get up to trouble (just a hunch)
Black Metal was sick. Where to Begin with extended ending!  so cool

I loved both set lists as well but I give the nod to Friday.   Just a perfect Jacket show for my likes in an excellent venue

again, I do wish he had at least said hello but whatever.
